Nine
Thea:
The soft snow reached Hogwarts, and the once green grass was transformed into a blanket of pure snow.
I was in the common room with Amelia and Luna working on some homework for Defence Against The Dark Arts.
"You spelt that wrong" Amelia pointed at my parchment while nibbling on a sauger quill.
"Oh, thanks" I change it quickly.
The common room was dead. The only other company we had were two third years who were talking in the corner at a table.
"This is the longest we've hanged in weeks" Luna pointed out
"Ha, I guess it is" Amelia looked up from her parchment.
"We've all been busy, but I have missed it" I admitted
"you mean you've been busy hanging out with Draco Malfoy" Luna smirked not looking up from her paper, and Amelia laughed loudly.
"Oh, shut up!" I snapped jokingly "what about you and Neville?" I raised a brow. Amelia shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"I don't know what you're on about" she shook her head a blush creeping slowly on her face.
"Right" I dragged the word then laughed.
"You both have been showing interest in boys this year" Luna spoke thoughtfully
"Interest?" I ask frowning "I have no interest in Draco! That's absurd he's just a good friend" I state
"Yeh same with Neville" Amelia nodded aggressively agreeing
"They don't seem to think that" Luna mentioned creating an awkward atmosphere between us.
"I'm hungry!" I announced rushing out of my seat "I'll go down to the kitchens to get some cheese sandwiches or something".
"Ugh!" Amelia groaned "and chicken" I remember how she didn't like cheese that much.
"walked out of the door, leaving the tension in the room and the two Ravenclaws who had to deal with it behind.
I wasn't sure what time it was, but I was inclined to believe it was after hours, no one walked the halls, and no candles were lit.
I wandered around some corners with only the light of the moon and stars to guide me. Then I saw a figure ahead of where I was standing, sitting down at a windowsill. At this point, it wouldn't be entirely superstitious to claim our meetings were fate. The moonlight highlighted a few of his features, like his blonde hair and the hight of his cheekbones. The rest of him remained in the shadows. He was paying particularly close attention to his arm, tracing patterns along his icy pale skin.
"Draco?" I call as loudly as I could without purposefully startling him
"Thea?" He stood up quickly and pulled down his sleeve, so it was fully covering his arm again. He walked towards me, and my eyes never left his arm as he did so.
"Are you ok?" I asked when he stopped dead in front of me. I was now looking up into his face.
"Of course" he answered, but his eyes told a different story. His eyes illustrated a narrative of sadness and fear.
"What were you doing?" I looked down at my feet not being able to handle the look in his eyes.
"Oh, I... I was bored, so I decided to draw shapes on my arm" he said. I didn't believe him, I wondered whether I should press further, but I decided to drop it. I didn't want to force him to tell me anything he didn't want to. Instead, I nodded slowly, not knowing what to say.
"How about, I walk you back to the Ravenclaw common room" Draco suggested "it's gone midnight so you shouldn't be up right now" he spoke sternly.
"I was actually about to head to the kitchen to get Amelia, Luna, and I some sandwiches. We've been catching up on homework" I informed walking past him and towards the kitchen.
"I'll go with you" Draco speeded behind me until he caught up.
We got to the kitchen, and every house elf had fallen asleep. I didn't want to disturb them, so I tiptoed through quietly. Draco didn't understand why I was being so quiet but copied my mannerisms.I grabbed the ingredients and made a few sandwiches. Draco helped a bit, but domestic tasks didn't seem to suit him.
"Done?" I asked Draco putting my last sandwich on the plate
"Yeh, I'm done" he replied, putting the sandwich he made on top of mine. I found it a difficult task to exit the kitchen without dropping the plate, but I managed to leave with zero casualties. I walked with Draco back to the Ravenclaw tower without saying a thing. Between us was a comfortable silence.
When we got to our destination, I turned around to farewell Draco, but as I opened my mouth, a head popped out behind the door.
"Oh, we were just about to look for you" Amelia chuckled, Draco didn't find it so amusing though, neither did I. "Well then... I'll take these off you" she took the palates awkwardly and went back inside without another word.
I looked up at Draco and smiled. He smiled back with uncertainty.
"Thank you, Draco for walking me back" I spoke, dropping my smile.
"No problem, but um... Are you still going to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?" He asked. From his tone, it was evident that he was worried I had lost interest in him based on this interaction alone.
"Yes of course, but one question, will it be a date?" I spontaneously wondered out loud.
"That's what I hoped, but if you want to go just as friends that's fine" he answered nervously darting his visual attention elsewhere.
My heart fluttered at this confirmation, and I inhaled sharply. I was now comfortable in saying I did like Draco Malfoy more than just a friend, and he liked me back. My face blushed.
"I would love to go on a date with you" I smiled.
