'Hurry up Alec!' Adelaide trilled as she ran around the institute. 'I want to see him!'
'I'm coming Addy. He's not going anywhere. He's living here remember?' Alec caught up to his dark haired friend as she rolled her eyes at his obvious sarcasm.
'Adelaide, Alec, no running in the halls.' Maryse's tired voice stopped the two in their tracks; Isabelle was hiding behind her mother, watching Adelaide and Alec with interest.
'Sorry mother.' Alec said solemnly. Adelaide sent a cheeky grin to Maryse who smiled gently back at the two children. 'Your father is in the main hall, Alec, go and find him, I know you both want to meet our new resident.'
Adelaide didn't need any more encouragement; she grabbed Alec's hand in her own and walked at a pace that verged on running until they reached the main entrance of the institute.
'Adelaide, Alexander, come and say hello to Jace.' Robert stood in the doorway with his hand on a young blonde boy's shoulder. The boy held no emotion on his face and his eyes darted around warily, taking in the unfamiliar environment.
'Hello.' Alec stopped in front of the younger boy and waved.
'Hi! I'm Adelaide!' Adelaide grinned, showing her straight teeth.
'Show Jace around you two, I'll be back.' Robert walked away from the group.
'Where did you come from?' Adelaide asked after a few moments of silence.
Jace's jaw tightened. 'Idris.'
Adelaide and Alec's eyes widened. 'Idris, I know that place! We were born there.' Adelaide said enthusiastically, excited that the three had something in common.
'And how old were you when you left?' Jace asked, distaste colouring his tone.
'We were babies.' Adelaide answered.
'Well then, you don't really know Idris at all, do you?' Jace crossed his arms.
Adelaide frowned.
'I'll show you your room.' Alec motioned for Jace to follow him. Adelaide made to follow the two boys before Jace suddenly spoke.
'Tell your sister to stay here.' Jace groaned as he noticed Adelaide following.
Alec nodded, barely glancing at Adelaide's disappointed expression. The boys began walking away, leaving Adelaide behind.
'She's not my sister.' Alec muttered to Jace as the two walked away, rounding the corner.
Adelaide heard his words and her shoulders slumped, her lower lip jutting out. Isabelle ran to her, smiling toothily at the older girl innocently.
Adelaide held Izzy's much smaller hand in her own, forcing a smile onto her lips for the short dark haired girl.
'He's going to be trouble Izzy.'
Isabelle giggled and nodded.

'Are you two quite done?' Magnus' voice drifted into Adelaide's ears. She quickly wiped her tears and walked towards the warlock whose eyes followed her, worry in their depths.
Adelaide nodded at Magnus answering his voiced question and the unspoken one in his cat eyes. I'm fine.
'Now that that's out of the way, it's time you all know why you are really here.' Magnus escorted them all into his sitting room. Adelaide chose to stand behind Magnus as he sat in the armchair in the direct view of everyone else, Luke slightly off to his left.
'Alright, so talk.' Jace crossed his arms and leant back. Clary sat on his right closest to Luke. Isabelle and Alec sat on Jace's left.
'I'm sure you are all aware that I was a part of the circle, as were many shadowhunter families.' Luke began as the others watched and listened silently.
'Jocelyn and Valentine were my family. Valentine was my parabatai.'
A sharp intake of breath came from Clary, however she chose not to speak.
'I'm being watched by the clave for knowing Valentine over eighteen years ago. I can imagine that you are all being watched as well. Except for Adelaide of course.'
Alec scoffed and Adelaide rolled her eyes.
'That doesn't mean I'm safe.' Adelaide crossed her arms, her whole body tensed.
'Clary, Alec, did anyone see you take the box out of Jocelyn's apartment?' Luke questioned, leaning forward slightly.
Clary looked at Alec who shook his head. 'No. The only other people there were your new pack and they weren't interested in some box that turned out to be useless anyway. They just wanted Clary and the cup.'
'Because I'm the key to getting the cup.' Clary sighed.
'That box might be of no value to any of you, but to Jocelyn it was invaluable. Clary, can you remember anything your mother might have told you about the cup? Any hidden memories resurfaced?'
Clary shook her head. 'I don't remember anything. If mum hid clues, I don't know where they are.'
'What is said in this room must stay between all of us, none of what is discussed here can reach the Clave's or Valentine's ears.'
They all nodded at Luke silently.
'You said you'd tell me – tell us – everything.' Clary reached into her backpack and pulled out the box she'd found in the apartment. 'Let's start with this.'
'No.' Luke shook his head immediately.
'Please Luke. Mum said this belonged to my father, but my father's Valentine.'
'I want you to remember that your father could be a good man, Clary.'
'After what he did to you...' Clary trailed off.
'This is worse Clary.'
Adelaide watched the interaction warily, while the others looked on with interest.
'I need to know Luke you said so yourself.'
Luke caught Adelaide's eye and she nodded at him to continue.
'JC stands for Jonathan Christopher. Your brother.'
There were audible gasps around the room. 'I have a brother?'
'You did.'
'What happened to him?'
'He died in a fire at Fairchild Manor. A fire set by Valentine.' Everyone looked at Adelaide as she spoke.
'How do you know that?' Clary frowned; still sounding completely shocked by the revelation.
Adelaide shrugged, not offering an explanation.
'The box,' Alec cut in, looking pointedly away from Adelaide. 'You said JC but there are more letters on the box.'
'Alec's right... Luke, what does this mean?'
Luke looked conflicted. Adelaide stepped toward clary, holding out her hand for the box. 'Can I see?'
Clary handed the box over without hesitation, trusting the mysterious shadowhunter in front of her.
Adelaide ran her fingers over the box, frowning.
'Do you know what the mean?' A strange tone entered Clary's voice as she pleaded with Adelaide and Luke for the truth.
'J for Jonathan.' Adelaide mumbled.
'We already know that. Hey!' Alec rolled his eyes, jumping as Isabelle hit him for interrupting.
'Your mother, the day she found out she was pregnant; it was the happiest day of her life. Even Valentine was happy that day.' Luke spoke, a distant look in his eyes.
'She had two names picked, one for a boy and one for a girl.'
'What are you - I don't understand. None of this is making any sense!' Clary was growing frustrated.
'Your mother was pregnant with your brother Clary.' Adelaide started. 'But she soon found out that there was more to it than that.'
'What?'
'Your mother got the shock of her life when she gave birth, Clary.' Luke laughed, as if remembering the day, and perhaps he was, Adelaide thought to herself.
'Jonathan came out, all dimples and blonde hair. Screaming the place down. But Jocelyn felt off, like something wasn't quite right. Sure enough, not five minutes later out came another tiny baby with dark eyes and dark hair. Didn't make a sound.' Clary was gripping onto Jace's arm in disbelief.
Adelaide looked up and met Luke's eyes. He smiled softly at her.
'You were beautiful even then, Adelaide.'
Clary had gone white, Alec was slack jawed and Isabelle was covering her mouth with her hand, eyes wide.
Adelaide smiled softly at Luke. She swallowed the lump in her throat and forced herself to look at the other occupants in the room. Magnus squeezed her hand tightly.
'You wanted to know what the initials on the box meant Clary. J.A.C. Jonathan, Adelaide and Clarissa. The Morgenstern siblings.'
