After the loss of her best friend, Alex is just trying her best to get through each day. Summer is ending, which means that soon she'll have to return to the Academy with the other Kooks, something that she's not looking forward to in the slightest.

Out of the blue, a mysterious text message arrives from an unknown number, claiming to be John B and Sarah, still alive. So, Alex and her friends embark on a journey to prove John B's innocence so he can come back to the Outerbanks.

She and JJ are still trying to figure out this newfound connection between them, while tensions continue to rise between her and Rafe. Not to mention the now-strained relationship she now has with her parents, particularly her mother. Alex's relationships are complicated to say the least.

Will her confusing, conflicting feelings get in the way of saving John B and Sarah and continuing the fight for justice?
