Chapter 13

The trio sat around the campfire that the two boys started.  The flames danced to the sound of the wind howling.  It was fascinating and had almost made them forget about the Tongku, Aries, Mystice's injury, and Fluego being captured.  Almost, just almost made them forget.
Mystice leaned against Aske's arm, cradling it with her own arms. "You were right; this was- is a great idea."
"I just thought we needed some relaxing.  After all, we did fight off a bunch of those disgusting creatures that probably came from hell."
"Well, thank God you can think," Val praised, lying on his side with his head resting on the palm of his hand.
"I thank God for that, too." He replied back, sarcastically.
  Hoot, hoot, hoot!
"Sounds like the owls are close," Mystice moved closer to Aske, laying her head on his shoulder.
"Hoot, hoot!" Val imitated the sound owls made.
They all laughed aloud; the sound was melodious, like harmonizing in a song.  Aske looked at the laughing blue-haired dragon (but to him, being a dragon didn't define who she really was), feeling a wave of happiness wash over him.  She looked happy, not in pain, and her smile was genuine.  Then, it was gone; her smile faded and her face turned a ghostly white.
"Myst, are you alright?" Her brother asked, sitting up quickly out of concern.
She looked up, her eyes full of fear.  Chunks flew out of her mouth, covering the patch of grass next to her with vomit.
"Mystice!" Aske grabbed her, and held her close.  He rolled up her pant legs to see the wounds a black color again. "It's infected, which is causing her to get sick." He looked at Val.
Her body shook as she cried out in pain.  "I-I'm okay."
"Oh, pathetic girl, you won't be for long,"  It was a woman's voice; she sounded sinister. "Give her to me, and none of you get hurt."
"No way!"  Val had grabbed his rifle next to him, and aimed it at her. "You'll have to get through me first."
While the woman was distracted by the threat, Aske stood up and ran, carrying Mystice in his arms.  All he wanted was for her to be safe.
"If that's what you want."  The smirk wasn't just seen on her face, but was also heard in her voice.  She tilted her head, then Val flew into the tree, losing his rifle along the way.  It was her doing; she had done it with the limited abilities she had with her telekinesis.
  Thud, plop!
Now, he laid on the ground, heart beating fast and feeling lifeless.  Pain shot through his arm; it was dislocated. "Y-You," he cried. "Stay away f-from Myst."
"She's dangerous; she needs to be taken care of."
When he looked up, she was gone; she had gone to look for his sister.
