Chapter 24
Haneul
We got Lee Jooheon to sit with us and spare some time to discuss matters.
The three of us headed back inside the cafe while Jooheon's friends decided to go on their own ways.
"So what is this about, and why do you know my name?" Jooheon narrowed his eyes at the two of us while keeping his hands inside his coat's pockets out of suspicion.
Kihyun looked at me, doubting when to start and how to start everything.
"Wonho." I didn't hesitate to blurt out.
As expected, I earned a reaction from Jooheon. I watched closely as his facial expressions changed, his eyes widening and his lips slowly parting.
"He's dead. What do you want?" Jooheon asked.
"Apparently, he's not exactly gone away." I spoke.
"What kind of nonsense do you mean?" Jooheon frowned.
"I'm not sure if you'd believe me or not. It's up to you, but I only need background information about Wonho from you anyway. It doesn't really matter." I said.
I took a deep breath to recollect my thoughts before starting to explain the situation to Jooheon.
"Wonho's soul. He's still lingering around and I've come into contact with him. I can see him, speak to him, and interact to him." I explained.
"If that's the case isn't that bad stuff? You should've stopped." Jooheon interrupted.
"Exactly." Kihyun added.
I looked at them both before sighing to continue my story.
"Look, I don't know you at all but Wonho mentioned that you both.. were friends. Is that right?" I asked.
Jooheon's face changed once again. It was displaying a hint of surprise.
"Yes, that is right." He nodded.
Kihyun and I exchanged looks between each other because of the progress we were having.
"Jooheon-ssi, tell us. What kind of a guy was Wonho before?" Kihyun asked.
"He was reliable to me. He acts like a good hyung to other boys. He was caring and he's also quite a bit more emotional than a usual guy." Jooheon tried to recall.
Upon saying those, Hyungwon began to appear inside my mind. Indeed, Hyungwon treated Wonho like his good hyung, and to Wonho, he was like his younger brother. It was an accurate representation of the relationship they had.
"Did he have any love interest before his passing?" Kihyun shot his next question.
"Yes. He did." Jooheon admitted.
"How was their relationship like?" Kihyun cautiously asked.
"You see, this is where everything got into a downfall. Wonho was kind as a friend and an older brother, but to her... he was controlling and possessive. She was the only thing he could ever obsess about the moment they got together. In fact, it lead to their tragic deaths." Jooheon sadly recalled.
"She wanted to break it off with him for so many times. However, Wonho would always prevent it from happening by threatening to kill himself just to have her never leave his side. I even had to plead the girl not to go." His eyebrows were showing a worrying expression.
Kihyun glanced at me, but I refused to take a look at him. I know he was worried for my sake, and I was too. However, I need to be strong enough to break it off with Wonho eventually.
I needed to get Hyungwon back.
"How did they die?" I asked.
"It was a car crash. Wonho was the one driving and it was during the night they both had a big fight. As I've said, Wonho was quite emotional. We just didn't know that he could ever let his emotions get the best of him up to that point." Jooheon answered.
I stared into space while letting Jooheon's words sink in. It definitely wasn't safe for me anymore. If I don't break it off quick, I might end up trapped in this situation.
I used to think I could get away with having Wonho as the love of my life. But I guess, there were boundaries and limitations to the things I wanted.
I also never realized that in the process, I'd actually fall for someone else.
I came back to my senses and noticed Jooheon's phone with Kihyun. He was reading the past chat messages they both shared before Wonho got into a car crash.
"Looks like he was really furious and was bound to get her." Kihyun shook his head in disbelief.
"I know. He suspected her of cheating on him for no good reason, and that night, his girlfriend was out on a party. According to our other friends, he dragged her out there and brought her to the car where they had a heated argument as he drove." Jooheon said.
"Do you know where Wonho's body could be possibly buried?" I asked.
"Yes. I could give you the address to it. It's quite a long ride though, kinda far from here." Jooheon nodded.
Kihyun and I parted ways with Jooheon after thanking him for the time he had shared with us. It made me feel relieved that although Jooheon probably did not understand what was going on, he still shared with us what he knew of. It was good to see how his judgement on us wasn't as harsh.
"The moment I first saw Wonho, I got to see the same event Jooheon had described. The car accident." Kihyun spoke.
We both were walking on the streets, waiting to catch a taxi cab to bring us both home.
"He's most likely lingering because he is to be taught a lesson. But seeing how things are taking a turn, I think all of this needs to stop." Kihyun added.
"I know... but what can I do? Wonho and I have grown so attached to each other. Hyungwon too.." I worried.
"If we don't put an end to this now, he might bring you with him, Haneul. Or other than that, you're gonna be in this situation forever.. with him." Kihyun reminded.
"That's right. Either way, I'll have to stop this and bring Hyungwon back." I agreed.
Kihyun and I stopped walking as he came right infront of me.
"When are you planning to do so? Anytime you're ready, Haneul." Kihyun asked.
I looked away and thought of all the times I have spent with Wonho. The unexpected first meeting where I had almost hit him with my car, that time he saved me from an old bully in school, and that time we both had our first date using Hyungwon's body.
It was all due to him that Hyungwon and I had been reunited after a long time, too. It was like the three of us were connected.
But Wonho in nature was different from me. I received a warning in the form of my dreams, and I eventually got a taste of his own insecurity and jealousy when I was starting to get to know Hyungwon a bit more.
"Tomorrow, Kihyun-ah. I'm ready." I suddenly heard myself blurt out.
It almost felt unreal, but there was no turning back.
"H-Haneul-ah, are you sure?" Kihyun's eyes widened in surprise.
I gave him a silent nod as I looked at him straight in the eye.
"How are we gonna do it?" He asked.
"I'll invite Wonho over. For the very last time." I said.
"I need to break it off with him, and we need to be successful about it." I added.
"Yes, but what if he hurts you?" Kihyun asked.
"I think you need to go to where he was buried. Try to get it blessed or something." I answered.
"Right. That's the idea. It's the only way, but do you think you'll be able to do this peacefully?" He asked.
"I'm not sure.. You need to get there on time, Kihyun." I said.
"Alright, I understand." Kihyun looked at me worriedly, but eventually agreed.
He was indeed someone I could put my trust on.
Tomorrow, I'm meeting Wonho for the last time. It's finally happening.
