Chapter 23
Haneul
Today luckily wasn't a school day so just as Kihyun had instructed me, I decided to call Wonho to spend more time with him once again.
I waited in front of the ice cream shop where he first took me to a date before, and noticed that I had arrived first.
I closed my eyes and released a deep sigh. Afterwards, I began to check the time and look around me to scan my surroundings for any sight of Wonho.
"Haneul-ah!" A sudden familiar voice greeted me from behind which almost startled me.
I quickly turned around to see who it was, and to my relief it was no other than Wonho.
"You're here!" I smiled.
Wonho chuckled and cupped my cheeks before giving me a quick peck on my forehead.
I then looked deep inside his eyes to check and saw that it was indeed Wonho. I also began to notice the fact that for the past 3 days, Hyungwon had been out of sight. It was always Wonho inside that body, and it was like he never seemed to get out of it.
"Are we here to get ice cream?" Wonho asked.
I thought well and pondered about it when suddenly, an idea came across my mind.
"Ah! Why don't we go for a date in the cafe Hyungwon once introduced me to? He said I should definitely bring you there and today seems to be the perfect time!" I suggested.
"Hmm, sure." Wonho raised his eyebrow at me and eventually agreed.
Wonho and I went on our way and took a ride on the way to the cafe together.
As soon as we got to the place, I felt nostalgic about the first time I was with Hyungwon as I began to recall how I felt during that day. I was basically still with Hyungwon, but the thing is, the person inside him isn't actually him which makes it all different.
I took time to admire the facade of the cafe's building and its designs before heading inside.
"Isn't the place beautiful? Ah, the aroma is perfect. We could also take pictures right there later." I spoke to Wonho upon him opening the doors for me.
"So, he brought you here, huh?" He said with a hint of malice in his tone.
I kept silent but I strongly noticed how he seemed bitter about it. Rather than appreciating the day and the place we were in, it was the first thing he had in mind and he had to express it in a negative tone.
After all, that day I went home was the first time I saw Wonho rage. I began to feel shivers run down my spine as I recalled how terrified I was begging Wonho to stop during that time.
"I'm glad he did. At least I discovered a new good spot for us to spend time in." I answered without glancing at his face.
I brushed my thoughts away and picked a table for us to sit. As soon as I have chosen, we walked ahead to the table to settle down.
I pulled the chair and sat down on my seat when suddenly, I caught sight of the table where Hyungwon and I sat down last time. It wasn't occupied today.
I looked at the table while memories of Hyungwon began to flood my mind out of the blue.
"Why are you suddenly smiling like that?" Wonho began to ask moments later as he felt confused. He then decided to turn around to look at the view I had my eyes on.
I eventually broke away from my thoughts the moment Wonho snapped me out of it.
"Was I? Sorry, I didn't notice at all." I gently shook my head as I started to smile a bit more at how silly it was.
I glanced up at Wonho to see his reaction but he looked like he wasn't having any of it. He was giving me a judgy look which expressed his displease. He began to look down and release a deep heavy sigh. I then felt my smile slowly fading away.
I felt heavy because maybe, I ruined the day for the both of us. Maybe it was a bad choice to be here with Wonho. I felt regret but I was determined to turn the day a bit better.
I gazed at his face, feeling a bit of longing. It was Hyungwon's face.
And if only it was Hyungwon himself right in front of me.. he would understand.
"I forgot to tell you, but I think I have plans for this day later." Wonho suddenly spoke up which diverted my attention towards him.
"Suddenly?" I asked, a bit disappointed.
"So if you'd allow, let's cut the day short." He spoke coldly.
I watched him check his wristwatch and point it out to me.
"I'd have to leave by 2 pm. Right now it's about 12 noon. We can make time here solely in the cafe." He explained.
"Alright. I guess, I understand." I forced a smile.
Wonho and I made our orders. I got myself some caramel macaroons, a honey butter bread for us to share, an eclair, and a coffee drink. Wonho got himself a slice of strawberry cake, blueberry macaroons, and a caramel macchiato to drink.
"The food here is honestly good." I assured Wonho as we got half of our orders quite immediately served on our table.
"I see. Everything here looks delish. Even the interior has great ambience. Comfortable yet stylish." Wonho affirmed.
We both started taking bites into our food as we spent a few moments to appreciate and enjoy the taste of each dessert.
The silence with Wonho wasn't awkward at all, and it made me at ease to be in his company. I looked at him chew and fill himself for a bit before he finally looked up to meet my eyes as well.
"Haneul-ah." He started speaking after swallowing his food.
"Yes? What is it?" I answered.
"Do you think.. you're willing enough?" He asked.
I carefully processed his question not knowing what he meant by it.
"I could be. But willing about what thing exactly?" I asked.
"About being with me." He stared into my eyes deeply.
"You know, carrying on with the rest of our lives like this. Just you and me together. Do you think you'd want that kind of life? To be my one and only girl and to have me as only yours." He spoke.
I felt as if my throat dried up and no sound would come up at that moment. Everything about Wonho made my heart flutter, and I'm deeply sure I wanted to have someone that way, too. However, I knew Wonho probably wasn't gonna be the one. There are so many risks I'm going to have to make just to make us happen.
"You don't look so sure." Wonho gazed at me and blurted it out as if he was concluding after reading what my face spoke.
He looked down hiding his hurt. I felt as if Wonho had caught on about what I was feeling for a while.
"But are you? Are you willing to not be sent off and to spend the rest of your life with me... like this?" I asked back curiously.
He looked at me but his eyes were still screaming disappointment.
"Is that even a question to be asked? The answer will always be yes. I don't even care at this point anymore because whatever the odds are, I'm gonna have you my way." He spoke intensely.
I wasn't able to hide the frown on my face. I was so troubled because I knew I've grown attached to Wonho. But something's not just right lately, and I can sense everything being off about him.
I glanced at Wonho in front of me and somehow noticed his attention suddenly being caught by someone from afar. I carefully traced the direction to which he was looking at curiously. Interestingly, I found that it was a man.
"Lee Jooheon..?" He spoke with a hint of longing in his voice.
The guy he was referring to seemed as if he came by the cafe to dine in like the both of us as well. The guy, Jooheon, came with a few friends.
"Who's that? Do you know him?" I asked trying to trigger a memory.
"I don't know what's happening, but yes I definitely do. He's an old pal and I know that we both knew each other deeply." He explained, somehow getting bothered.
"Well, he probably won't recognize you if you come up to him like that. You're appearing as Hyungwon, remember?" I said.
"But this is so odd, Haneul. I know Jooheon, but I can't understand why I have this heavy feeling in me like I'm so sorry towards him." He spoke getting quite restless.
"Let's just let him live his life. You're both separate ways now, Wonho." I said.
"I guess.. that's true. It would only be confusing to bother him and come up to him now."
He took one last glance at Jooheon behind and looked back in front to move on from the situation.
Kihyun
I rode the taxi to get to the destination where Haneul asked me to meet her. Upon minutes of waiting to arrive, I finally caught glimpse of Haneul standing outside the cafe while checking her phone.
"Alright, we're here. Thank you." I handed out my payment to the driver and got out of the taxi to meet Haneul.
"Hey!" I called her attention upon approaching.
Haneul looked up from her phone and finally saw me.
"You're here!" I saw relief upon her face when she greeted me.
"So, why are you waiting here outside? You could've gone in." I asked her.
"Oh no, actually you were right on time. I had just accompanied Wonho out of the cafe. He had somewhere else to go and so I called for you here." She explained.
"You were with him just a while ago? So, what's the matter?" I asked.
Haneul slowly moved closer towards me to speak.
"I finally know someone who might help us dig better into Wonho's identity."
"Really? Who?" I asked.
Suddenly Haneul and I quickly moved aside as the cafe doors opened and a group of friends made their exit. I looked at Haneul and caught her eyeing the group.
"You were saying?" I tried to get her attention back.
She quickly broke apart from me and chased the group before they got away too far while I followed right behind her.
I looked at her grab one man's wrist and gently pull him back to face her.
"Mr. Lee Jooheon?" I heard her say.
The man looked at her confused and taken aback by the sudden action.
I myself also stood surprised by what Haneul had suddenly done without initial explanations to me about the man's identity.
"I'd like to speak with you." She said.
