Chapter 22

Haneul

"I need to find out why you're attracted to me on the same hand. You're gonna have to tell me as well." Wonho suggested.

I looked at his face while my mind was already starting to drift away. I thought about all our encounters and how it made me feel.

Honestly, just why? I was also bound to understand myself and my feelings.

"Sure. Well, in my case, I was attracted to you because.. you made me feel something new. I felt certain sensations every time you were around and for sure you made my heart flutter. You're there, every single time. Just when I needed you." I spoke from the analysis I made.

I blanked out for a moment until I realized it was all I had to say to him.

"I guess that's how I grew fond of you." I concluded.

He stared deeply into my eyes, exuding a loving aura. He was definitely pleased by what I had just said. I could see how he felt moved by the fact that I found him irresistible in many ways, and how he looked at me recall our encounters.

It made him smile.

He released a deep breath out before smirking once again to himself.

"Honestly speaking, Haneul, I think I was drawn to your emptiness." He bluntly revealed.

My emptiness? I was greatly taken aback by how odd he chose it out of all little things he could probably notice. I was simply astonished by the way he was able to throw it out there. What could he possibly mean by it?

"W-what's interesting about emptiness?" I tried to ask normally without raising suspicion but I wasn't able to stop myself from stuttering.

"I just felt like I wanted to fill that gap in your life. I wanted to be a part of your world the moment I felt it, Haneul. You were longing for something. You longed to love and to be loved. I felt how you craved to receive affection, and it... was very inviting to me. I like that side of you, and I felt it calling for me." He wasn't able to resist speaking about it.

I was horrified. I felt creeped out by how Wonho implied that he was somehow thriving on the gray areas of my life. I realized how it could be the answer that I needed. He grasped onto that feeling of attraction towards me because my soul was lonely and he felt as if he could enter my life and feed off from that. Maybe Wonho wanted me to need him.

And I feel as if he wanted me to keep needing him; to depend on him as if he was my everything as he continuously gives me that shower of love and affection.

But now I know, it is not meant to be.

I watched his eyes grow into a deeper shade of black as he talked about that certain concept of attraction. I know I was starting to regain myself and see my situation rationally with Kihyun's words making sense.

"Wonho, let's call it a day." I quickly stood up from my seat.

"Is anything wrong?" He asked.

"No, definitely not. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts but I think I need to tend to my house now. I have a lot of cleaning to do, and I'll have to prepare my dinner for the night." I found an excuse.

"Let me come along with you--"

"No Wonho, that body is not yours. Maybe you should bring Hyungwon back now. Right here." I said.

I observed the way he reacted and saw him clench his jaw. He was getting tensed up the moment I spoke Hyungwon's name.

He suddenly released the tension in his face the moment he found me carefully observing him.

He shot me a big smile. I knew it was an insincere one.

"I don't think I could trouble Hyungwon this way by letting myself leave him in this place. Go ahead now, I'll bring his body back home." He motioned his head to the direction where I was supposed to leave.

I found that he could possibly be right. It would be an inconvenience for Hyungwon, so it was good Wonho was learning to be considerate for him enough.

"Alright. Goodbye." I said.

I quickly tiptoed my way close to Hyungwon's face just to reach nearer to his height before landing a kiss on his cheeks.

Suddenly, I noticed Wonho freeze.

I waited silently for a reaction until he began to move his head and look at me with eyes wide from shock.

For a second, I saw Hyungwon's eyes go from black to brown. It was a sight similar to a glitch.

It was as if he was awakened.

"Hyungwon? Are you there?" I took the opportunity and called out to him.

He remained frozen while his eyes were still fixed on the sight of my face.

"Haneul."

He mumbled my name but it was clearly audible to me. I heard how it was in Hyungwon's tone. I was definite about hearing the way he called out to me, and for a moment, I was sure I knew it was him.

Suddenly, I saw his eyes change its colors back from brown to black indicating that Wonho was still there.

"What was that? What just happened?" I immediately asked.

Wonho held his head and blinked for a couple of times.

"I-I don't exactly know. Did you see anything?" He asked.

I opened my mouth to say something about his eyes but I felt that it was best to keep it to myself.

"Nothing really..." I slightly frown.

"That's odd. I felt as if I was thrown out of here for a second." He said.

"What?" I asked him just for the hope of him repeating his words.

"Nothing. Go ahead on your way now. I guess I should get going, too." He lightly shook his head and starting walking away first.

I ignored Wonho and didn't respond any more. I waited for a few moments until the sight of him was far enough before I quickly took my phone out to dial Kihyun.

My phone rang for a few moments and so I started walking ahead to get to my home fast while waiting for him to pick up.

"Oh, Haneul! How are you?" He finally answered.

"Kihyun-ah, I talked to Wonho and he was able to talk about what drew him closer to me." I reported.

"Really? Go on, tell me what was the reason behind." I felt the eagerness in his voice.

"Emptiness, Kihyun-ah. He explained he was attached to my feeling of longing and needing." I spoke.

"Goodness, it makes sense. I've got one more question Haneul. Have you been happier and brighter lately?" He shot.

I kept walking on my tracks until I reached out for my keys to get inside of my house.

"Well, apparently I think I did feel that way when Hyungwon came back into my life. We were reunited and I got to know him as how he is now. It made me feel better to be reconnected with him." I spoke genuinely as I opened the door to my house and close it behind me.

"I honestly think that's what's bringing up his violent side, Haneul." Kihyun said.

"What do you mean? Is it jealousy somehow?" I asked.

"Not just that. Like what you mentioned, it's because he's restless about the fact that he won't be feeding off from your loneliness anymore now that you've got Hyungwon. He won't be the one to provide comfort, and it disturbs him because he finds purpose in you, Haneul. But he shouldn't stay here any longer. He must be sent off." He explained.

"I guess so..." My voice got weaker.

"What brought you to become that empty anyway? It was almost unnoticeable." He asked.

I reflected deeply, and though it was hard for me to share, I had to because I felt Kihyun's genuine concerns.

"At some point of my life, I didn't like staying in this place anymore. It was hard to live all alone, and it also bothered me that my aunt would come back to threaten me anytime due to family issues. I only had you and Bora as my friends. I also liked Taehyung for a very long time but he did nothing better than to make me feel small every single time. I felt lost and miserable." I shared as he listened.

"I did long for someone to truly be there for me. It might seem not much of a big deal, oh well, hearing myself it doesn't seem that much now. But I don't know, Kihyun. I just started to question everything and I felt down because of it at some point. And then, Wonho suddenly showed up that day I was crying." I explained.

"I see. Don't worry, Haneul. I'm not here to judge you for it." He assured.

"Thanks for helping me, Kihyun. If it was another person, I bet they would be creeped out and leave me to handle this on my own." I chuckled.

"So, what's our plan?" I then asked.

"Well the thing is, I need to find his grave, Haneul-ah. Perhaps, has he brought you there?" He spoke.

"Never. I never know much about his past life. He claims not to remember." I said.

"Alright. I'd have to leave you up to the plan of digging up more about him. If you gather anything we can use, you'll have to tell me about it as soon as possible." He said.

"Alright. You can trust me on it." I guaranteed.
