Chapter 17

Haneul

Hyungwon and I decided to order different types of deserts for the both of us to share. After all, he was willing to try different stuff out with me.

We had honey butter bread, a matcha cake, a red velvet cake, pistachio ice cream, strawberry and caramel macarons, and a chocolate smoothie.

"Woah, we bought too much food. Can we even finish these all?" He laughed.

"I know you don't eat alot, but don't worry. I used to finish some of the food you wouldn't eat back then, remember?" I teased him.

"Fine, I'll try to bring on some good appetite then. I've been wanting to eat all of these with someone anyways." He smiled.

"You love it here, but why haven't you ordered the rest of the food yet?" I ask while taking a piece of the butter bread.

"As far as I can remember, I just usually grab some iced americano with this honey butter bread, and eat them while I study here. This place is quite close to my school, by the way." He said.

"Ohh, I could see why you love to study here. It's serene, and something about this place just really helps you focus." I stated.

Suddenly he looked over to his left and pointed to me a spot that was far on the opposite side of us in the cafe.

"You see that?" He asked.

I noticed an area filled with themed and aesthetic designs. There were colorful flowers, paintings, lights, books, and everything else. It was simply beautiful.

"It's an area where you can pose and take some pictures. Do you want me to take a photo of you right there later?" He offered.

"Well.. I'm really quite shy to do so... Nevermind about that." I hesitated.

"Come on, it would be a fun remembrance. How about let's do it this way, if you don't want your individual shots taken by me, then let's take the pictures together instead!" He suggested.

I wasn't able to hold back my smile because of his displayed eagerness.

"Alright.. If you say so." I agreed.

We went back to eating as he gladly left a moment of silence so that I could scan my eyes around the place and simply appreciate it.

I was enjoying every single food we've ordered, but I was also quite worried about Hyungwon not being able to keep up with me.

"Your sweet tooth is really something." He suddenly said upon seeing that I've finished the matcha cake and the butter bread already.

"Haha, I know. I could never get enough of these. I'm glad you brought me to this place because I might actually visit just to eat these again." I smiled as I grabbed the caramel macaron.

"That's good to hear. You should bring Wonho hyung next time. It's a great place for a date, too." He said, but I strangely felt a hint of insincerity in his words.

"That basically means my next visit here would be with you, again. If that's what bringing Wonho is..." I said.

"We're still two different people. It could be that I'm the host of his soul, but it's definitely him you're in love with, right?" He looked into my eyes as he spoke.

"Well.. you do have a point." I spoke in a low voice.

I immediately went ahead to drink the smoothie in order to avoid appearing awkward.

"Hey." He called.

"Hmm?"

"That's my straw you're sipping on." He said as he watched me with his arms crossed together.

I quickly looked up at him out of shock, and eventually, I broke into a coughing fit. I wasn't able to swallow the smoothie well the moment I realized what I had just done.

"H-hey, are y-you okay?" He asked me while I was trying hard to stop my coughing.

"No no, it's okay! I'm sorry..." I apologized because of drinking into his straw and for making a mess of myself right infront of him.

He brought his head down but I could still see how he was slightly smiling underneath. It made my cheeks feel as if they were burning.

Hyungwon

As soon as we were done eating, I brought Haneul along with me to take pictures.

I first let her look around and admire the decorations that were everywhere while I take out my phone.

"Woahhh, these look real." She went ahead to touch the fake leaves and flowers.

I watch her from a distance while smiling to myself. I couldn't help it, and so I quickly turned my camera on and stole a quick shot of her.

"Yah!" She quickly faced me as soon as she heard the shutter sound.

"I told you not to take pictures of me!" She nagged as I earned a painful slap on the arm from her.

"Haha, hey! You look pretty!!" I clicked on the photo that I took, and showed her.

She stopped hitting me as soon as she stole my phone to get a clearer look.

I then saw her face soften as she was probably surprised by how I took her candid photo nicely.

"See? I told you it came out well." I raised an eyebrow at her.

"Psh... Whatever." She quickly returned my phone.

"Come closer, let's take a few pictures together." I told her.

I could see her hesitating, but she eventually did so.

"Smiiiile!" I say as I took our very first photo.

Haneul and I took a few more pictures as soon as she got a bit more comfortable with me. We made sure to take it at almost every angle together.

"So, where shall we go next?" I ask her.

"Anywhere you'd like." She answered.

"Hmm.. let's see. Do you wanna see a good view of the beach today? We've got lots of time since we came here early. I know a place but it's not like a fancy resort. It basically presents you the fresh sea itself. I find it very peaceful and interesting." I told her.

"How long does it take us to go there?" She asked.

"It's a 45 minute drive, but with traffic it can take an hour." I explained.

"I've never really done something like this but... I guess I'm in for it? You're Hyungwon, anyways. I trust you." She spoke.

Her words suddenly triggered an unexplainable feeling somewhere deep inside my chest. It made me feel a rush of excitement and responsibility.

Whatever it is, I liked the way that I felt towards her.

"Alright. Let's go!" I cheered as we both made our way out of the cafe.

Luckily, Haneul and I arrived at the destination with not much traffic bothering us. The weather also seemed to be cooperating with the two of us.

I parked the car, and afterwards, we both made our way out.

"Wahh... there's a few people here, too." Haneul was glad to see other people enjoying the place.

"Yeah! Personally, this view just feels so therapeutic. My mood seems to go better everytime I set foot here." I tell her a fun fact about myself.

"Is that so?" She smiled.

She then slowly started walking around to explore the place, while I carefully follow behind her.

"Try breathing in deeply! Fresh air is really good for you, too!" I told her from a distance.

She turned around and gave me a thumbs up sign before doing as I had said.

"Ahhh.. this feels great! It's just what I needed." She told me.

I decided to run to her so that I can quickly catch onto her pace, and walk side by side together.

"Omo, Hyungwon-ah look!" She suddeny gasped.

My eyes travelled to where she was pointing at, and I surprisingly found a little girl crying near the shore.

"Let's try to approach that child." She tugged onto my arm and started running to the little girl's rescue.

I, too, started running alongside Haneul so that we could help the child sooner.

As soon as we reached the little girl, we both bent down to get to her level.

"Hey, are you alright?" Haneul calmly asked the girl.

The poor child didn't answer, but kept on her with her crying.

I watched Haneul wipe the child's tears while she was also patting her back gently.

"Shhh.. it's okay. You're going to be alright. We're going to help you find your parents." She assured her.

I quietly observe Haneul who was beside me. I was slightly in awe of how natural she was when it came to comforting children. Back then when I ended up getting beaten by her bullies, she would also be the one comforting me too. She was overall a caring person, and I liked that about her.

"How old are you?" Haneul asked, but the little girl was still whining.

"H-Hey there... so, how old are you? Oppa wants to know." I quickly tried to help Haneul get the child's attention.

Suddenly, the little girl calmed down and miraculously looked at my face.

"5 y-years old..." She answered.

I turned to Haneul, and her face was giving me a thankful expression.

"Y-You are a handsome o-oppa..." The little girl stared at my face and suddenly complimented me.

"Ah... not really." I got shy all of a sudden.

I tried to look at Haneul, but she was busy looking away while trying to hold in her laughter. She knows how awkward I usually get whenever someone gives me compliments about my appearance.

"W-what's this, handsome oppa?" The kid gently touched my neck brace.

"Ahh.. Oppa hurt himself recently, but it's okay. Do you want to tell me why you're here alone?" I asked her.

"Mom said she'll buy me a corndog, but she's not coming back yet." She broke into a cute frown.

"Don't worry. Handsome oppa and I will stay here until she gets back!" Haneul smiled.

I happily watched Haneul as she tried to keep the little child entertained for a while. It was such an amazing scene, and it just honestly warmed my heart to see.
