Chapter 2
Hello there! Okay so the delay on this chapter was I was on vacation and I didn't have internet. I wrote this on my laptop and the writing thing I used was like low budget Word, but like really low budget like no spell check or anything not even the red squiggly. If you can please point out any mistakes that would be amazing. Also, my cat had kittens!
The new students were sorted into Houses with the help of the Sorting Hat. Professor McGonagall walked briskly to her empty seat at the staff table as she entered in with Harry, Hermione, and a few other staff members. I noticed people whispering and pointing at Harry, who she had heard fainted.
"What was that all about?" Asked Ron who had saved Harry and Hermione seats across from me. Harry started speaking in a whisper but as soon as Dumbledore stood up, he broke off.
Professor Dumbledore always, I thought, gave an impression of great energy. He had several feet of long hair, an extremely crooked nose, and half-moon spectacles. He was described by many wizard newspapers as the greatest wizard of the age, but that wasn't why I respected him. He had a certain air around him that made you certain he was a trustful person. I remembered back when she was first sorted in Gryffindor, Mr. Malfoy had sent her a letter saying that he was going to disown her. And he had tried, he said that he would not let a girl that wasn't even his daughter spoil his family name. I had immediately went to Professor Dumbledore and he sorted everything out at the Ministry so that he couldn't. Mrs. Malfoy was my legal guardian after all.
"Welcome!" Dumbledore said, the light from the candles shimmered on his beard. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say to you all, and one of them is very serious, I think it is best we get it out of the way before you all get befuddled b our excellent feast..."
Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued, "As you will all be aware after their search of the Hogwarts Express, or school is presently playing host to some of the dementor of Azkaban, who are here on Ministry of Magic business."
He paused again, glancing around. "They are stationed at every entrance to the grounds," Dumbledore continued, "and while they are with us, I must make it plain that nobody is to leave school without permission. Dementors are not to be fooled by tricks or disguises - or even Invisibility Cloaks," Dumbledore added blandly, I saw Harry and Ron share a look out of the corner of her eye. "It is not in the nature of a dementor to understand pleading or excuses. I therefore warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. I look to the prefects, and our new Head Boy and Girl, to make sure that no student runs afoul of he dementors."
Percy puff out his chest and looked around impressively. The hall was dead silent as Dumbledore glanced around with a serious expression before continuing.
"On a happier note, I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our ranks this year. First, Professor Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."
There was scattered, unenthusiastic, applause. Only a few people clapped hard, myself, my friends, and a few others. Lupin looked particularly shabby next to all the other staff in their best robes.
"Look at Snape!" Ron whispered loudly.
Professor Snape, the Potions master, was staring at Lupin. It was common knowledge that Snape wanted the DADA teaching position, even myself, who thought Snape was a bit rude, was startled to see the expression on his thin, sallow face. It was well beyond anger: it was loathing. I knew that look, it was the look Snape gave Harry and the Weasley twins.
"And to our second appointment," Dumbledore continued. "Well, I am sorry to tell you that Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher, retired at the end of last year to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs. However, I am delighted to say that his place will be filled by none other than Rubeus Hagrid, who has agreed to take on this teaching job in addition to his game keeping duties."
I joined in with the applause, which was mostly coming the Gryffindor table. I looked to Hagrid, his face was red and he was staring at his enormous hands, his wide grin was hidden in his beard of black hair.
"We should have known!" Ron roared as he pounded the table. "Who else would have assigned us a biting book?"
Of course I was one of the last to stop clapping. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Hagrid wiping his eyes on the tablecloth as Professor Dumbledore started speaking again.
"Well I think that's everything of importance," Dumbledore said. "Let the feast begin!"
The golden plates and goblets suddenly filled with different foods and drinks. I was, suddenly starving, helped herself to everything I thought she could eat.
"Oi! Don't eat all the food, Black!" Lee laughed, filling his plate.
It was a delicious feast, the whole hall echoed as the sound of loud chatter and laughing bounced off the wall. At last, when the last scarps of the food disappeared from all the plates, Dumbledore gave the word that it was finally time to go to bed.
My friends and I talked all the way up to the portrait of the Fat Lady.
"Password?" She asked them, her dress was pink and frilly and honestly took up most of the painting.
"Coming through, coming through!" Percy called, weaving his was through the crowd. "The new password is 'Fortuna Major'!"
"Oh no," A third-year, Neville Longbottom, said sadly.
"Don't worry Neville, I'm sure you'll remember it this year." I said reassuringly. Neville didn't seem to believe her.
I said bye to her male friends and her and Angelina went up he spiral staircase and as they reached the circular dormitory, I felt at home again.
