Chapter 9
"Do you have any plans for today?" asked my mum.
"Yes, I was going to hang out with a friend I made from the volleyball team," I answered.
"That's great, honey," said my dad. "And how's your photography project going?"
"It's going really well!" I said, proud.
"You shouldn't spend so much time on that," he said.
"You need to focus on your studies, that's more important," completed my mum.
"I can do both, I'll prove it to you," I said. "I should get ready."
They excused me and I took a shower. I decided to wear long jeans, a black T-shirt and a red checked shirt. I wondered if I should put my hair in a ponytail, but I chose to leave it.
I still had a couple of minutes and I was very nervous. I needed a distraction. Right on cue, my phone rang. Hello, distraction.
"Hello?"
"Y/nnn!"
"Ishidaaaa! To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"I was just bored, what are you doing?"
Should I tell him? Yes. No. Yes. No. I'm gonna tell him.
"Well... I... might be getting ready for... a date," I said, and I moved the phone away from my ear, prepared.
"YOU'RE GOING ON A DATE? AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?"
"Relax, please," I laughed.
"Who is it? When was this? Tell me everything!" he insisted.
"Okay, okay. He asked me yesterday-"
"Yesterday? Wait, oh my God, is this the cute player you told me about?"
"Maybe..." Who needs makeup when you can have natural blush?
"That's so romantic. Tell. Me. Everything. Later. Okay? I gotta go."
"Weren't you bored two minutes ago? Okay, I'll talk to you later. Bye."
I hung up and texted Kaneko, who was online.
You: Heyy!
Kaneko: what's up?
You: Kaneko. My friend. I'm going on a date.
Kaneko: omg really? who's the lucky guy?
You: He's from the male volley team
Kaneko: oooh. i have to say i'm hurt that you didn't tell me anything before.
You: Sorry
Kaneko: i'm going to your place to get you ready.
That's when I heard the door.
You: He's already here, gtg. I'll ttyl :)
Kaneko is typing...
I received multiple messages from her, but I ignored them and ran to the door before my parents could get it. I took a deep breath and opened the door.
Suga was wearing jeans and a white shirt.
"Hi," I said, not really knowing what to do.
"You look very pretty," he said, a small blush spread along his cheeks.
"Nah, I dressed more or less casual," I said.
"I know. You look pretty every day."
Now it was my turn to turn all red. "You look good, too."
"Is that your friend, y/n?" asked my mum. When had she appeared?
"Yes. Meet Sugawara. Suga, my mother," I introduced.
"Pleasure to meet you," Suga said politely.
"It's nice to meet y/n's friends. You're from the volleyball team, right?"
"I am. Y/n is doing an incredible job with her photographs."
"Okay, we are going to go now. See you later." I interrupted the conversation.
"Okay, don't be too late!" said my mum.
I waved goodbye and closed the door behind me. "Sorry about that, she could've stayed talking for hours."
"It's okay. She seems nice."
"She is. And I love her and all of that, but she, well, my dad too... They can be a bit harsh when things don't go their way."
We kept walking.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Well, they don't see photography as a career. They want me to study something else. But it's my dream to become a professional photographer. That's why this project is so important." It felt nice to say all of that.
"I see."
"But let's forget about that right now," I smiled. "Where are you taking me?"
"I'm not telling you yet. But it's not important where we go, let's just enjoy each other's company."
"You're right. But are you sure you can't tell me?"
"You ruined my inspirational moment," he joked. "Don't be impatient, we're almost there."
We entered a park. It wasn't packed with people and the weather was nice. A sudden idea came to mind: I wanted to hold his hand. So bad.
Stop overthinking and just do it!
For once, my brain said something helpful. I casually swung my arms lightly and brushed his knuckles.
He looked at me. Then smiled. Then laced our fingers. On the way, we didn't talk much. I guessed we were both nervous. Beginnings were hard.
"Here we are," he said. We had arrived in a flat grassy zone near some trees.
"The view of the park is beautiful." I beamed.
"I know it's not that impressive, but it's nice. I come here a lot, so it's kinda important to me and... Well... I didn't have too long to prepare anything," he rubbed the back of his neck.
I squeezed his hand and grinned at him. "It's amazing. Thanks for bringing me here."
We sat on the grass.
"Oh, I brought this." Suga took out a warm bag full of meat buns. "I figured we'd get hungry."
"I love meat buns!"
It was a wonderful evening. We talked about everything and nothing and we got to know each other better. We laughed a lot, too. I was having the best time.
"It's getting dark. Ready for the best part?" Suga smiled at me.
"What part?" I eyed him suspiciously.
"I didn't just take you to eat some meat buns! When it's dark, you can see the stars. They're beautiful. Like you."
I blushed. "I love stars."
I snuggled closer to him, my back against his chest. He smelled good, like him. Not a perfume or an artificial scent. Just him. And it was perfect.
"Are you cold?" Suga laughed.
"Not really." I tilted my head up to see him. His cheeks were slightly red. "Is this okay?"
He nodded. "Look, you can already see some stars."
I looked at where he was pointing. I hadn't even noticed the sunlight fading. They really were beautiful.
I was very comfortable. It just felt right. Suga's warmth was starting to make me sleepy. I yawned and slowly closed my eyes.
Suga began stroking my hair. "I really really like you," he whispered.
I suddenly felt butterflies all over my stomach and I smiled. "I really like you, too."
"You were awake?" He sounded embarrassed.
"Yeah, it's hard for me to fall asleep."
The next minute was a bit awkward. Just two red faced people grinning at each other, laughing and seeing the stars.
"Well, I'm glad we feel the same," said Suga.
I was lost in his eyes. "Y-yeah, me too."
I got closer to him, almost without realizing it, and he responded getting closer as well. My eyes drifted unwillingly to his lips, but I kept looking at his eyes. I just had to inch a little bit closer and...
A ringtone broke the magic of the moment. My ringtone. However, when I went to pick it up, whoever had made the call had already hung up. I also saw a text from my mum saying I should get back home.
"Suga, I had the most wonderful time today, but I should get going," I said.
"Yeah, I should too."
We stood up and he hugged me. He actually put his arms around me in a warm embrace. I buried my head in his neck. "Thank you," I whispered.
"O-of course. See you on Monday," he said once we separated. Then added: "I loved every second of this evening."
I'm back! Pls don't forget to vote and comment :D
