Chapter 8

I woke up and looked at the time. Only half an hour left, there was no way I was going to go back to sleep. I rolled up the blinds and almost blinded myself with the sudden light from outside. I opened a window and yawned, still mad at myself for the poor attempt at blinding myself.

I got dressed and had breakfast trying to stay awake in the process. I finished eating and put away my plate, when I received a text.

Suga: Hi! I hope this isn't too early in the morning.

Suga is typing...

And I blushed. I actually blushed.

I groaned. I didn't really have to think about 'the Suga situation' or anything, really. I clearly liked him.

You: Hi!

Suga: Are you coming to practice today?

You: No, I have to see the girls today

Suga: Please come. You wanted credit for the synchronized attack, didn't you? ;)

You: *gasp* are you going to copy us? I better go then

Suga: ok, see you later

You: Byee

He was very sweet. I could understand my heart when it beat faster because of him.

I grabbed my bag and went to school.

-------------------------------

I'd told Suga I'd go to the boy's practice, but I had finished earlier and went to the girl's gym to see if anyone was in there yet.

"Hey, y/n!" They said.

"What are you all doing here so early?" I asked, smiling but also surprised.

"Well, last day was so great we just had to make sure the sync attack still works," said Sasaki.

"And that it wasn't just luck," added Rinko.

"Come with us!" said Yui.

I did, but that day y/n.exe wasn't working. My serves didn't pass the net, my sets weren't accurate at all, my spikes always went out and I didn't receive a single ball.

"What's with you today?" asked Yui.

"Yeah, what's got you so distracted?" This was Aihara.

"I'm sorry, guys. I guess today is not my day," I apologized.

"No, it's not just that," added Watabe. "You are distracted, but dreamily."

"And you are smiling all the time." This was Aoki.

They exchanged looks and little smiles. Something was going on and I didn't know what.

"It's just like when our dear captain talks about Daichi," giggled Aihara.

"What? I do not-" Yui tried to defend herself.

"So" Sasaki interrupted her, "who's the lucky guy?"

"What are you talking about?" I was probably blushing. "There's no one!"

"Really?" smirked Rinko. "I saw you very comfortable with jersey number 2 the other day..."

"It's nothing like that!" I was definitely blushing right now.

"You're all red, don't try to deny it."

"Okay, fine," I gave up. "I might have a tiny crush on jersey number 2."

"Ha! I knew it!" They said.

"Look at the time!" I said nervously. "I gotta go make some art."

They laughed and said bye. I'd distracted myself and arrived a bit late.

"Hello, Shimizu," I greeted. "Any luck with the new manager?"

"Hi," she smiled. "Not yet. But I'm sure someone will be interested eventually. You guys put the flyers everywhere."

"Y/n, you came!" Suga came to us and my heart started beating slightly faster.

"Yes, of course. How about that synchronized attack?" I said.

He rubbed his neck. "Well, Daichi doesn't want to do it yet. But we will master it."

"Not before the girls, I see," I teased.

"It's not a competition!" he laughed. "Well, I gotta go."

"You and Sugawara seem pretty close," observed Shimizu.

"Please, not you too."

She looked confused, but didn't dwell on it. I told her I'd better get to work and she made one of her peace signs.

Today I wanted to get Asahi and Tsukishima. However, Tsukishima wouldn't let me photograph him, so I focused on Asahi.

He was clearly the ace. He was strong and reliable for points. I waited for him to ask for the spike and... Click.

I wanted to scream when I saw the picture, which was all blurry. I breathed and tried again. No luck.

"Asahi, could you repeat that one more time?" I asked.

"Yeah, I guess."

I focused even more. He jumped and, just before he hit the ball... Perfect!

"Thank you!" I grinned.

"Of course," he said. "You're almost part of the team now."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Suga won't sto-"

"Hey, Asahi. Would you come over here?" Suga made a weird smile and almost dragged Asahi with him.

I stood there confused, until I almost got hit by a ball and got out of the way.

I was almost finished with the boys's photos. I was going to end up missing it. It was Tanaka's turn now. I knew he had no problem, so I didn't even have to ask for permission.

"Be prepared to take your best shots," Tanaka almost took his shirt off, but Daichi stopped him on time.

He was practically posing, so it was easy and I finished in no time. However, I pretended to continue for the sake of his motivation. You're welcome, captain.

Sugawara and Kageyama took turns setting. Kageyama's talent always impressed me, but it was Suga who I couldn't take my eyes off. After realizing and accepting my crush, I couldn't stop thinking about him. And now that we were in the same place, my eyes drifted towards him every time. I just hoped no one would notice.

I was happy with today's work, so I decided to treat myself and rest. Nevertheless, it wasn't long before they finished.

Everyone started leaving, except for Shimizu and me. Well, and Suga, who looked for something in his bag.

"I'm going to be late for dinner," Shimizu excused herself. "It was nice seeing you again."

"Same goes to you," I smiled at her. She was a bit shy, which was why she always seemed so formal, but once you got to know her, she was great.

"Need help with whatever it is you're looking for?" I asked Suga once Shimizu had left.

"No, thanks. Found it," he simply answered.

This was a little awkward right now. I didn't know what to say and my brain was not helping. On top of that, he didn't seem in a hurry to leave. Maybe nervous, but that had to be because of all the training.

"Well, I think I better get going," I broke the silence.

"Wait," he rubbed his neck. "I wanted to ask you something. Are you free tomorrow afternoon?"

What?

"Uh, yeah, I think so."

Please don't blush, please don't blush, please don't blush.

"Good," he said. "In that case, would you maybe... Um... want to do something?"

"Sure, I'd love to hang out," I said. I had to be sure of his intentions.

"Yeah, no. The question is: would you go out with me? I know it hasn't been long, but I really want to know you more and I think I really like you and-"

"Suga," I interrupted him. "I'd love to go out with you."

We both stood there smiling like idiots and then laughed at the awkwardness.

"Pick you up at eight?" he asked.

"You're picking me up? What a gentleman," I joked.

"Of course, who do you think I am?" He straightened his jacket to prove his point.

Then we laughed at our own stupidity again.

"At eight, got it."

I said goodbye in the least awkward way possible and tried to order my thoughts on my way home.

It was too much of a dream to be true. But I knew better. I wasn't going to pinch myself or do anything stupid like that. This was definitely not a dream.

The boy I liked had asked me on a date. Was it really a date? He just said 'go out'. Now I was just overthinking. Thank goodness it was Saturday tomorrow, there was no way I was going to concentrate in class.

I decided to let my mind rest. I'd go out with Suga and I'd have a great time. That was all I had to focus on.

He asked her out! We'll see how their date goes... Please vote and comment :D
