Chapter Twenty Two
Shehnaaz sat in one of the rooms in the Shukla Mansion, dressed in a simple Anarkali suit. The family had just returned from the temple, where they had gone for a special veneration to ward any negative or evil vibes off of the soon to be married couple. They had performed a three hour Hawana Yagna and presented the first invitation to "SidNaaz's Marriage" to Ganesha, the god who is considered the bearer of good fortune and destroyer of obstacles.
There was a constant smile on the faces of the bride and groom to be. Shehnaaz was positively bursting with excitement, so much so that her excitement infected everyone in her vicinity. The parents beamed at the happiness that shone in their children's eyes.
Shehnaaz couldn't help but blush remembering how she had taken her place on the "Vaam-ang" (left side) of Siddharth and how he had clasped her hand gently into his own.
She sighed, removing the little jewellery that she had worn for the day. Her eyes subconsciously landed on the beautiful gold bangles, studded with gemstones, that Siddharth's mother had gifted her that morning, telling her that it was for auspiciousness.
"Teri shaadi ho rahi hai, apni kalaiyaan ab sooni nahi rakhni hai. Samjhi? Shubh nahi hota." Rita Maa had explained to her as she slipped the heavy piece of jewellery in her hands.
Shehnaaz had nodded eagerly. A sudden burst of excitement caused her to giggle softly.
She was getting married that week.
The feeling was so beautiful, yet so overwhelming. Shehnaaz couldn't yet decide if she should be happy, sad, excited or nervous.
She sighed, arranging her jewellery carefully in a box and kept it inside the locker in her room and changing into comfortable night wear. She hopped on the bed, switching her mobile on.
-Hey baby, wyd?
Just finished getting changed, did you need something?
Miss u.. balcony me aaja plz?
Shehnaaz blushed, but of course obliged. She made her way towards the balcony of her room. Siddharth was leaning against the railing, watching her with a smile on his face.
"Cute lag rahi hai." Siddharth said softly, pulling her gently into his embrace.
Shehnaaz smiled, resting her head on his chest.
"Thaka nahi tu?"
"Mein toh itna excited hoon, aisa lag raha hai abhi phat jaaunga." Siddharth confessed.
Shehnaaz giggled, planting a soft kiss on his chest. "Aaj pehli rasam thi shaadi ki. Tujhe nervousness nahi ho rahi?" She asked.
"Tu hi toh bolti hai kay shaadi formality hai, aur tu bahut time se meri biwi aur Shukla family ki bahu hai, toh mujhe nervous hone ki kya zaroorat hai?" Siddharth asked curiously.
Shehnaaz nodded adorably.
They stood in the balcony, shehnaaz wrapped in Siddharth's arms, his huge physique hid her petite form so perfectly, as if he was protecting her from all the evils of the world, keeping her in a safe cocoon of love, affection, happiness and positivity.
"I love you so much little star." Siddharth breathed, almost inaudibly against the sensitive skin of her neck.
Shehnaaz trembled in his arms, her legs turning jelly, she leaned against him, he tightened his hold on her, supporting half her weight. "Love you too Sid."
For the next few minutes, a comfortable silence engulfed them.
"Siddharth.."
Siddharth looked at her questioningly. She smiled, "I'm sleepy." She mumbled, nuzzling her nose in his chest.
Siddharth chuckled, leading her into her room. "So jaa ab. I'll see you in your dreams, 'kay?" Siddharth teased.
Shehnaaz blushed.
" 'Night princess." He said kissing her forehead affectionately.
"Good night Siddharth." She replied, sitting on the bed. Siddharth waited for her to settle into bed so he could tuck her in properly before leaving for his own room but Shehnaaz didn't move.
"Kya hua?"
She shrugged.
Siddharth sighed, knelt in front of her. "Kya chahiye mere baby ko?"
Shehnaaz bit her lip, smiling at him. "Kisses."
Siddharth smiled, raised his eyebrows at her. She pointed to her forehead. Siddharth kissed her forehead lovingly, next Shehnaaz closed her eyes, Siddharth obliged once again, dropping soft kisses on both of her eyes. She giggled, making him smile.
"Next?"
She touched the tip of her nose. Siddharth planted a feather like peck on her nose. "Bas?"
"Last." She whispered, tapping her lower lip. Siddharth shook his head fondly but obliged nonetheless, giving in to his queen's demand and pulled her into a soft kiss. A few seconds later, they broke the kiss. The couple glowed with the aftereffects of the soothing intimacy that they had shared.
"Ab chaluin?" Siddharth asked softly.
Shehnaaz shook her head with a pout. "Mein tujhe miss karungi."
Siddharth touched his forehead with hers, "Bas thode dinn ki baat hai mery jaan, phir kaheen nahi jaunga."
Shehnaaz sighed, but nodded.
"Good night baby." Siddharth said softly, tucking her in bed.
"Good night." She replied, closing her eyes.
Siddharth smiled, patting her head, watching her sleep like a child.
He felt a surge of affection for the woman beside him. It wasn't even remotely lustful in nature, what he felt for the girl but it consumed him so, that it scared him sometimes.
What would he do without her?
Shehnaaz was a part of him for so long, that it was impossible for him to imagine himself without her. She was what completed him. She was what made him a whole and without her, he was something akin to a man with no soul, no feelings.
He looked at her, smiled and placed a small kiss on the side of her temple.
"I love you my little angel. Thank you for being here."
***
Two days later, The whole mansion was decorated like a bride. there hustle bustle in the house. All the extended family of Siddharth had arrived, either that morning or the night before.
Siddharth's sisters and friends were sitting in Shehnaaz's room, trying to talk her into telling them everything about her relationship with their brother. Shehnaaz was bonding brilliantly with everyone. Preeti and Neetu along with their cousins were reminiscing old childhood memories, telling embarrassing stories about Siddharth.
Shehnaaz laughed with them, trading a few stories of her own. She looked happy, but her sisters just looked right through her.
"Sana.. baccha?" Preeti knelt in front of her, taking her hand in hers. "Tu theek hai na?"
Shehnaaz sighed. "Haan di, bas miss kar rahi hoon family ko. Kitna accha hota na, agar meri stories bhi.."
Neetu caressed her hair. "Jinn logon ko teri qadar nahi hai, unhe yaad kar ke pareshaan ho rahi hai? Memories apno ke saath banayi jaati hai, woh log tere apne thodi the, jinhone mauka aate hi tera haath chod dia. Mudd ke ek dafa yeh tak nahi dekha kay tu theek hai ya nahi. Haan, agar tu apne parents ko miss kar rahi hai, toh woh zaroor waajib hai. Woh hote, toh bahot accha hota, par baccha woh physically tere saath ho, ya na ho.. tere dil mein teri zindagi ke ek bahot khubsoorat hisse mein, woh ab bhi hai, hai na?" She explained softly.
Shehnaaz nodded and smiled.
"Chal mera baccha ab tayyar ho jaa jaldi se. Tera outfit bhijwati hoon." Preeti told her.
"Maahi, tu bhi yahan hi tayyar ho ja, dekh lena sana ko kucch help na chahiye ho." Preeti added to Maahi, Siddharth's best friend's wife who nodded with a smile.
A few hours later, Shehnaaz was escorted out of the guest room by the girls while the boys escorted Siddharth out of his room and they were both made to sit in the middle of the room. Siddharth immediately reached for her hand and clasped it gently in his own.
"Ladkiyon ne zyaada pareshaan toh nahi kia?" He asked quietly as the rest of the assembled guests took their places around the room.
Shehnaaz shook her head.
"Aap tension mat lo bhaiyya, humne bhabhi ke saath team bana li hai. Hum unko nahi, apko pareshaan karne waale hai." Divya, one of Siddharth's sisters piped in and the rest of them echoed their agreements.
Siddharth chuckled, "Oh. Really?"
Divya nodded.
Maahi was about to add something when the hall echoed, "Agar bhai aur bhabhi se baatein karna khatam ho gayi ho toh function start karein Ladkiyon?" Kushal asked sarcastically.
Everyone laughed.
The girls rushed to the stage, The boys teased them a little fueling the competition and Siddharth shook his head. The girls performed on Raadha from the movie Student of the Year, Gud Naalon Ishq Mittha and Gall bann Gayi.
After their performance, the girls were showered with applause and praises from the elders.
"Accha tha, but boys.. are going to rock. AREN'T WE BOYS!!"
The boys whooped and hooted.
Next, The boys took over the stage, starting with a bang on performance of Lets Naacho (Kapoor and Sons) Then they danced on Badri Ki Dulhaniya, and lastly Desi Girl (Dostaana) the boys even tried to get Shehnaaz to dance with them but all in vain because Siddharth pulled her right back on her seat as soon as the boys tried to get her on the stage and the boys were rewarded with murderous glares.
The girls pulled their legs for the stunt and boys blushed.
"Kya bhai.."
Siddharth smiled sweetly. "Meri hai. Meri rahegi. Tum.. hadd mein raho." He said.
"Toh humne kab mana kia. Hum toh bass dance ke liye bol rahe the!" Jay said pouting.
"Apni waali se competition karne ko kisne bola tha? Ab bhugat." Siddharth said sarcastically.
The elders took the stage, Sid's father, chacha-ji and mama-ji took one side of the stage, while their better halves took the other and they all grooved to the tunes of dilli waali girlfriend.
SidNaaz laughed, amused as well as surprised at the gesture. The men were flirting with their other halves as if they were teenage boys and the ladies, blushing profusely did their best, complementing their partners.
The song promptly changed to London Thumakda where the parents of the bride (and the groom but we're not going there) pulled her out of her groom's reach, giving him a look that said "What are you going to do now?" and started to dance with her. Siddharth pouted, but then laughed at the look that his father had given him and raised his hands in surrender.
The third song change brought the whole family, cousins, friends, sisters and brothers (in law) to the stage as everyone danced to the beats of gallan goodiyaan along with the bride and the groom.
The final performance of the night came as a literal shock to the groom as his bride, his little star sang "Tujhme Rab Dikhta hai" in the most beautiful, soulful and hypnotically sweet voice possible.
Shehnaaz had knelt in front of Siddharth as she sang the last line of the song and bowed her head.
Siddharth held her by her shoulder and pulled her to her feet mumbling a soft "I love you" to her. Shehnaaz responded to his confession in kind.
"I didn't prepare anything." He confessed, looking at her with a innocent puppy face. "Mein kya doon tujhe?"
Shehnaaz shook her head. "Bas tu kaafi hai, aur tu toh already mera hai na?" She asked softly
"Forever."
"Bas phir, kuch nahi chahiye."
"Faayda utha loon tera?" Siddharth asked cheekily.
Shehnaaz frowned.
"Pyaar aa raha hai tujhpe, faayda utha loon?" He asked.
Shehnaaz blushed, hiding her face in his chest. "Abhi nahi, baad mein."
Siddharth chuckled softly. "Mera baby."
And so, The Sangeet of SidNaaz came to an end.
