Chapter Twenty Four [Last]
Siddharth was sulking in his room, dressed in a red and cream royal sherwani. He was supposed to get married today. This was supposed to be the happiest day in his life and there he was, sitting in his room, dressed up, surrounded by the absolute jerks that his friends were, teasing him about his impending marriage even if he so much as twitched his neck in the general direction of his bedside table, where his phone rested, which FYI was pinging like mad, (if that makes any sense) for the last three hours.
He missed his little star and he was almost 95% sure that he had at least 15 unread messages from her and she had sent him photos of her wedding look in every angle imaginable because apparently, the girls weren't just as mean as the boys and understood her eagerness for her special day.
They hadn't seen each other for the better part of the last twenty four hours as they had strictly been told that they couldn't meet once the Haldi had been applied to both the bride and the groom.
They were both understandably frustrated, especially Siddharth who had no idea HOW THE HELL TO FUNCTION without talking to her and seeing her and having her smile and blush and do a thousand other things that he didn't even know he did with her.
I mean.. He even missed the sound of her voice and the exact shade of honey that her eyes were and it had just been a day! He knew that it was crazy but.. damn he loved her and she was the most important part of his existence and that is that!
His sister entered the room, leading him out for some last minute rituals. He sighed, finally his scowl softened into a smile as he saw his sisters in the room.
"Khushi dekho ladke ke chehre pe." Kushal teased him. Siddharth glared at him.
"Teri shaadi aane de beta, aisi band baaja baaraat banaunga tu yaad rakhega!" Siddharth said, shooting him a fleeting look before exiting the room.
Elsewhere, Shehnaaz was sitting in front of a full sized mirror as three women worked on different aspects of her wedding look, giving her the last few final touches. She wore a blood red Lehenga, her jewellery and makeup made her look heavenly gorgeous, the eager ecstasy in her eyes, her cheeks painted naturally in tinges of deep red made her support an effortless glow. Maahi and Preeti Di sat in the room, dressed up and ready.
The girls were dressed in beautiful silk sarees/gowns of different colors while the boys sported Sherwaanis or Tuxedos, depending on what their partners or (in some cases) sisters were wearing.
A few hours later, Siddharth sat on the throne chairs in the centre stage, waiting for his little star. His eyes flitting occasionally to the stairway leading to her room, impatience shining in his dark brown eyes. His father stood by his side, smiling and greeting the guests that came to congratulate the groom.
"Dad.."
His father looked at him, smiled "Aa jaati hai abhi. Dulhan hai, itna toh banta hai na?"
Siddharth pouted, just as the hall was filled with the tunes of "Din Shagna Da" and Shehnaaz was led downstairs accompanied by hers and Sid's friends.
"Saale dal-badlu." Siddharth rolled his eyes, although he couldn't quite manage to tear his gaze away from Shehnaaz who looked like a princess in the red wedding attire. He stood up from his place and walked towards the foot of the staircase, Shehnaaz blushed while the rest of the group whooped and hooted as Siddharth went on his knee, offering his hand to his bride.
The song changed, "Mere Haath Mein.. Tera haath ho" played in a soft, soothing volume across the room as Siddharth led his princess to the stage like a delicate doll and made her sit next to him.
"Okay?" He mouthed, Shehnaaz nodded.
"You look beautiful." Siddharth said quietly.
"You look handsome too."
After a few rounds of Congratulations, blessings and good wishes by the relatives, friends and family Shehnaaz and Siddharth were made to stand for the Varmala ceremony.
Shehnaaz put the Garland around his neck, while he dutifully bowed in front of her, making her task easier for her as she blushed like a tomato. The family cheered and showered flower petals on the couple. Siddharth put the Garland in around her neck, brushing her fingers teasingly on the side of her neck.
My beautiful bride.
Shehnaaz gulped, looking innocently at him. Siddharth smirked. She looked down at her feet, blush creeping up on her cheeks.
"Aise karegi toh mein kha jaaunga tujhe, sabke saamne." Siddharth whispered to her.
"Besharam."
Siddharth chuckled.
Later, They were both pulled on the dance floor, as the guests swarmed the place in pairs and Shehnaaz's favorite song was played.
Shoutout to everyone who guesses the song (comment section is open and waiting.)
Siddharth held her waist gently, guiding her chooda clad hands to rest on his shoulder and pulled her closer and swayed to the rhythm of the song. Shehnaaz rested her head slightly on his shoulder earning a round of cheering from the rest of the guests but they really couldn't care.
It was after all, their wedding. They deserved to celebrate like they wanted.
"Kuch kha le." Siddharth whispered once they had returned to the stage.
"Pheron ke baad baby. Tab tak nahi khaate kucch." Shehnaaz told him quietly, smiling at his caring self.
"Shadiyan itni tiring kyu hoti hai yaar." Siddharth cribbed childishly.
"Kyunki zindagi mein usually ek hi baar hoti hai sabki." Ashok Shukla replied cheekily.
Siddharth rolled his eyes. "Right!"
"Acha chalo ab, Mahoorat ho raha hai pheron ka." Ashok Shukla held his son's shoulder, pulling him up while his mom and sisters helped Shehnaaz stand and they were both led to the altar.
The pandit started chanting the mantras, instructing the couple to do the pooja.
"Kanyadan ke liye kon aayenge?" Pandit-ji asked, causing Shehnaaz to stiffen in her place. She turned to look at Siddharth who smiled, took her hand into his own.
Preeti Di along with her husband came forward and kissed her forehead. "Hum kanyadaan kar rahe hain Pandit-ji. Mein shehnaaz ki badi behen hu aur yeh mere husband, Rajeev." Preeti said softly.
The priest motioned for them to take their seats and performed a pooja with them after which they were told to keep Shehnaaz's right hand on Siddharth's. They did as told.
"Isko khush rakhna, warna chittar padenge!" Preeti warned Siddharth who nodded with a smile.
"Noted."
Later, Nestu was called for tying the Gathbandhan and SidNaaz stood up for the Saat Phere.
The family showered flowers on the couple as they promised each other a lifetime of love, happiness, trust and loyalty.
After the pheras, Siddharth tied mangalsutra around Shehnaaz's neck and applied vermilion.
"Aaj se aap dono pati aur patni huye."
Everyone clapped while Siddharth pulled his wife into a tight.. tight hug.
"Congratulations Mrs. Shukla." Siddharth said softly.
"Congratulations Mr. Shukla. I love you."
Siddharth broke the hug, intertwining his hands with her and led her towards their family. They both took blessings from their parents and other elders. Neetu and her husband hugged the couple, showering them with blessings.
Preeti kissed Shehnaaz's forehead, "Congratulations mera baccha!"
Siddharth pouted. "Drama mat kar, Congratulations." Preeti chuckled.
"Mujhe toh pehle se hi pata hai mujhe mere ghar waalon ne disown kar diya hai. I'm not even surprised."
"Thank you Di & Jiju." Shehnaaz said as a tear slipped down her face.
"Mera baccha. Khush reh aur isko bhi khush rakh, I know it's a little impossible but you'll manage." Preeti said softly. Rajeev pulled her into a hug, kissing the top of her head.
Shehnaaz had a family where she was a daughter, a daughter in law, a friend, a confidante, a sister, a lover.
Finally, She was everything she ever wanted to be..
Finally,
Shehnaaz Kaur Gill, had turned into Shehnaaz Siddharth Shukla.
And, I suppose they lived happily ever after because kisi ki itni himmat hamaare SidNaaz ki life mein panauti laayein.
The End.
Here, my first SidNaaz fiction ends.
