A visit

At the door was Colleen. I just wanted to die right now. She knew that I lived in a shity house at the end of the street.

"Wow. I knew you didn't have that much money, but I didn't know you lived in a dump." She said. I rolled my eyes. "Look, I need to talk." She said and came into my house. She saw my mom in the living room and backed away to the door. She pulled me closer to her by my shirt. "You will say that I'm your friend that came to visit. If you say anything else, I swear I will beat the crap out of you.

Smile. Just smile. I thought to myself. Then I spoke up. "Mom this is my friend, Colleen." I said. My mom stood up and greeted her. "You don't have to get up, mom."

"Hi. I'm Tanya. It's nice to meet you." (Btw, that's not her real mom's name.) My mom said. "She never has someone exept Gabbie over."

"I can see why." Colleen whispered in my ear.

"Mom, you just watch tv and we'll go to my room." I said motioning for Colleen to follow me. My mom smiled sweetly at Colleen and made her way back onto the couch.

We came into my room. "Why is your mom so sweet?" Colleen asked as soon as the bedroom doors were closed. I shrugged. "I'm serious." She said at looked at me. Her eyes looked like she wanted to kill me. That meant I needed to answer.

"I guess she's happy someone else finally came over. Only Gabbie knew that I live in a dump." I answered looking at the ground. "And now you know too. Are you gonna make fun of me at school now that you know that I have nothing? My dad works his ass of everyday so that we barely have enough to pay the bills and my mom can barely walk so she can't get a normal job." I explained feeling tears in my eyes.

"I'm not." She replied simply. "I didn't make fun of you until now and I'm not gonna do it at school." I looked up at her with a raised eyebrow.

"You're lying." I said. She laughed.

"I am. I will harrass you because of this. A rich person like me should be nice to you? I don't even know what Gabbie sees in you. She should be ashamed to call herself rich." Colleen said and sat on my bed. "Tell me a bit more about you and your life."

"No." I mumbled.

"What was that?" She asked.

"No." I said loud and clear and she pulled my hair.

"Tell me. Now. I need to know." Colleen said.

Smile. I took a deep breath. I only thought ablut how I can't break down in tears infront of her. I can't be weak infront of her.

"My family once had a big house and we lived happy. But then my mom broke her knee and my dad got fired on the same day." I started already feeling how the tears filled my vision. "We couldn't pay the huge bills and we had to move. This is all we could afford. My dad eventually got a job at a factory, but they're not paying him enough. Sometimes Gabbie even..." I stopped. I couldn't bring myself to say that so that she also had something for Gabbie. I couldn't let her mock Gabbie. Not after what she did to her this weekend.

"Gabbie did what?" She asked, but this time she didn't hurt me. She put her hand gently on my shoulder.

"I can't tell you that." I said and just waited for her to hurt me. But she stood up from the bed and opened the door to my room.

"I understand." She said and closed the door after she exited. I heard my mom ask her a few questions before she left my house.

I couldn't understand what happened. She didn't hurt me. She comforted me. I couldn't figure out why. I don't think I ever will.
