Chapter 14
Okokokokok. Guys. It's ok. Maybe Lance will fix things ;)
Also, I just wanted to say I finally know how this story will end. I'm proud of this chapter and I'm happy I can finally give you guys my best work! I will be updating again, soon this time.
This chapter... This is a wild one.
Love you all!
-
The next couple of days went by in a blur. Keith refused to attend the dinner at Lances house (not surprisingly). Lance told his mom to move it to next week, in hope he could fix things.
But he didn't know how.
Tomorrow was Monday, and he would have to see all of the people who were so kind to him, and act like they meant nothing.
-
The next morning, he got up to the sound of his little siblings loudly playing. Threw on a t-shirt, some jeans, and his favorite pair of vans. He did his hair a little more than usual, he needed to look hot compared to the mess he was last week.
He couldn't believe his own actions.
He used a derogatory term that made him cringe just thinking about it. He couldn't believe he said it. To Keith. Hit crush.
No.
What had he done?
No Lance thought, physically shaking his head.
Keith meant nothing to him. They had a stupid moment in a hospital. Keith was just... A loser. A gay loser... That Lance had a crush on.
Today is gonna be hard Lance whispered to himself, as he stepped out of the bathroom.
-
He felt the eyes on him as he walked through the hallways of hell.
Everyone heard what happened. This was possibly the most popular Lance had ever been. Sadly enough... It wasn't for the right reasons.
After his first couple periods were over, Lance headed to lunch. As soon as he entered the room he saw that he would have to pass Keith, Hunk, and Pidge on his way to Zain.
Great.
Lance took a deep breath, and finally worked up the courage to walk through the doorway.
He walked quickly passed the three of his old friends, and he could feel the tension. Out of the corner of his eye, Pidge was glaring, Hunk just looked... Disappointed? Whatever the look was it was breaking Lances heart.
And Keith.
Keith didn't show a single emotion.
He just stared, to the opposite end of the room.
And it made sense. Not only did lance shove Keith out of the closet, he also them betrayed him and called him a derogatory term. Wow, flirting at its finest.
As lance got further away from the three, he got closer to Zain and all the other guys. He could feel eyes on him, watching to see his next move. As lance sat at the table, he could feel his popularity returning to him.
But was it worth it?
-
The next few days were boring. Things were finally beginning to calm down, and Lance was slowly beginning to lose being the center of attention. Which was good. He was finding himself comfortable in Zain's group again and as long as he ignored Pidge, Hunk, and Keith he didn't feel bad.
He had a stupid romance with Keith after an accident at a party. They had nothing real.
Nothing.
Lance would tell himself this whenever he began to feel guilty. He would think about how it meant nothing. How Keith probably didn't even like him.
Lance would think about how Keith kissed his forehead...
NO. He wouldn't do that.
Oh gosh... What was he doing.
-
When Lance got home that night he was immediately faced with the wrath of Maria McClain. He walked in the door and the first thing he heard was "Is that my third son I hear? You better get your butt in here right now Mr."
Uh oh.
Lance dropped his school stuff into a corner of the living room and wondered into the kitchen.
"Yes mama?" He said, innocently peeking his head around the corner.
Maria turned her head and sent a cold, hard, glare at Lance.
"Shiro called me today, bless that boys heart"
Lance felt every muscle in his body freeze. Shiro. Keith's brother. Had called his mother. What if... What if Keith told him everything and Shiro was coming to knock Lance out (which he could totally do, by the way).
Lance swallowed and waited for his mother to continue.
"He said Keith has been different lately"
Oh no.
"He was wondering if I knew anything about a possible argument you two had..." She paused to recall the conversation. "He said Keith seemed so happy while he was spending time with you again... But now he seemed different"
This made Lance's stomach drop. Had he actually affected that boy so much? Guilt surrounded Lance and he felt his palms get sweaty.
"What do you know about this Lance? Because last I heard Keith was just wanting to postpone dinner, and now you're fighting with him?? What are you not telling me son?"
Oh no. This was bad. Lance didn't know how, but his mother always found out everything. Partly because she was an amazing mother who could easily sense when something was wrong, and also because Lance is an awful liar.
So, he told his mother everything. They sat on two old chairs in the kitchen, and Lance cried on her shoulder. He told her about how he didn't actually like Zain and all those guys. He told her why he was so happy to have Hunk, Pidge, and Keith back in his life. He told her about the pool, and how Keith almost drown because of Zain (Lance was pretty sure his mother was about to explode when she learned Zain had nearly murdered Keith). And then... Lance told her about the hospital. About the small kiss.
"I was awake... But I could hear him pacing the room. I heard Pidge say something about him and I being together" Lance gulped. Was he... About to come out to his mother?
"And... Uh... When Hunk and Pidge left he leaned in and kissed my forehead. Right by the... Uh..." Lance pointed to the scar the bottle left to show where Keith had planted his lips. "And well... I liked it. And so lately I've been thinking... I might be bi?".
Lance could feel his hands shaking. His mother was loving to everyone and was always enforcing the whole "be yourself rule" but he had never mentioned anything about being gay before in his house.
She paused for a moment and then finally smiled and said, "oh I know Lance".
Lance just... Laughed.
A smile spread across his face "what? How? I didn't even know.".
She shook her head slightly at her
Sons obliviousness and said "didnt you have a fling with that Quinn boy this summer? And Lance, I know you. You are my son. I can tell you have felt conflicted lately so eventually I just put the pieces together. I wanted to let you tell me though, and not rush you into anything." His mother smiled her warm smile and pulled Lance into a hug.
He felt nothing but sheer happiness.
Until...
"But son, I don't understand. Why would Keith be mad at you? Is there more?"
Uh oh.
-
Lances mother was not a particularly violent person, but Lance was pretty sure he was about to be hit with her frying pan.
He told her what he had done to Keith... How he had publicly humiliated him and then shoved him out of the closet. And then called him a derogatory term.
And she had never looked so disappointed.
She swore in Spanish repeatedly, waved her arms around in aggressive, wild motions, and glared at him. Then she finally said, "if I were that boy, I would never talk to you again".
"I know... It's bad mama, really really bad... How can I fix it?"
His mother smiled slightly and deviously whispered, "I have a plan... But it will take some guts. And we will have to act fast, if what Shiro said is true, this boy is really hurting.
