(Small) Memory Burn

Warning: Small mentions of physical abuse. This is also a sad chapter, giving hints as of to why Luke and Logan's dad died. It was out of guilt for something he did. You gotta read to find out.

It was a known fact Logan was the mostly the meanest of the group. He always glared, threw insults, and was generally a dick to everyone. But everyone close to him knew that if you managed to break down those walls, you could see the soft and caring side of the teen. But, no-one knew WHY Logan was so rude straight off the bat.

Save for Luke.

Luke glanced at his twin as the two sat on couch of their home. Their mother was out for the day, and she entrusted her sons to watch over the house while she was gone. Luke was all for it, and strangely, so was Logan. While their mother didn't seem to mind, Luke did. His twin NEVER wanted to stay in the house.

Unfortunately, Luke knew EXACTLY why.

"Logan?" Luke asked in a soft voice. The small 'Hm?' Logan gave a response urged Luke to go forward.

"You.. Did you, uh.." Luke tapped a finger against the arm of the chair, trying to find the right words. "You.. had a nightmare about it again, didn't you."

The brunette frowned at his brother's silence. Typically, that would mean "Shut up", but currently? It only gave him confirmation.

"Be honest with me, Logan." Luke frowned, turning to look at his twin. "Did you?"

Logan bit his lip and turned his head away. God, he hated feeling like this whenever the topic was brought up. He felt pathetic, but at the same time, he knew he shouldn't. What happened that day wasn't his fault.

Luke placed a hand on Logan's back. "Can I check to make sure you didn't try to.. get rid of it?"

Logan nodded softly and took off his hoodie, then his shirt. He knew EXACTLY what was on his back, but he didn't was going to acknowledge it. Luke gave a reassuring smile before looking at his twin's back. While there was no sign of scratches or bruise marks, like he had expected, the only thing he saw a large spot of darkened skin on his brother's back.

Luke sighed softly. That burn still persisted, and so did the trauma that came with it to Logan. "You.. can put your stuff back on."

Logan nodded once more, beginning to put his shirt back on. Tears were pooling in the teen's eyes as he tried not to remember. Luke, however, closed his eyes, remembering that horrid night 11 years ago.
~~~
"ALEX!! HE'S 6!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO DO?!"
"I EXPECT HIM NOT TO DO BE FRIENDS WITH THAT IDIOT KID!!! I TOLD HIM SPECIFICALLY, DARLENE!"
"HE MADE A MISTAKE, JUST LET HIM GO!"
...
"Alex, why the hell do you have the teapot? Why is it steaming?"
"D-dad?"
"ALEX, WHAT'RE YOU DOING?!"
"DAD!! S-ST-OP! I-IT HURTS! PLEASE, I WON'T DO-O I-T AGAIN!! I PROMISE-E!! PLEASE!!!"
6 year old Luke's eyes were wide with shock and horror as he peeked around corner into the kitchen. The scene in front of him would be etched into his memory forever.
His father had just poured BOILING WATER onto his twin's back, then put the bottom of the still hot teapot onto the burn.
His father's eyes were wide with shock and horror as well once he'd realize what he done. His mother was screaming, whilst Logan was sobbing and pleading.
And all of this was because of Logan making one wrong friend.
~~~
"L-luke?"

The younger twin snapped out of his thoughts and looked at his brother. He gasped softly, seeing Logan crying.

"Logan!" The younger twin wrapped his arms around the elder twin, holding him close. Logan rested his head on Luke's chest as he began to sob.

"P-ple-ease.. n-ev-ver t-tell th-em.." Logan whispered between sobs.

"I won't."
