Incubus

A contest entry in the discord of WattWorld.

"Won't you join me?" No. It was not a question. It was a command. The shadow of a smile danced on his features, pulling her closer with each breath.

"It's only a drink," she whispered in a daze as if half-convincing herself. Green eyes met charcoal. Behind the darkness, embers of his power danced around a budding fire — reaching out to cement her fate.

Ava knew the lore about his kind, yet she played so perfectly into his trap. A drink appeared in her hands.

What was she doing? Ava pushed her glass away.

"I shouldn't—"

"Ava darling, if I wanted to poison you, I wouldn't need a drink."

Her heartbeat quickened. "I don't want to be here." A moment of clarity fueled by objections.

"Then don't." He grabbed her and with a snap of his fingers, they were in an old sitting room with floor to ceiling velvet curtains and a paisley settee for two.

Panic brewed in her chest. "I want to go home."

And then they were in her bedroom. This wasn't any better. "Alone. I want to be alone."

The incubus shifted uncomfortably. "Very well. But I will be back for what I am owed." And he vanished into the night like the nightmare he was.
