We Were Here
We put our message in a bottle
And sent it to the stars
We wove it in to every word
And every piece of art
We scrawl it onto varnished desks,
In smudging chalk and stone,
In flint and brass and fibreglass
With soul and mind and bone,
But fear that for milennia
We've screamed our hopeful call
In an isolated forest,
With none to hear us fall.
A/N: oh, look! It's despondent-existential-poetry o' clock!
This is based on my entry to the Weekly Poetry Contests by @seowonkim (go forth and check out their contest! Or don't, I don't mind. Whatever you'd like to do.)
