~Chapter Six~ [Finally, I know, right?]
~Warriors~ (Six)

Small'hiss lifted her head, still resting in the medicine den. She was lucky to have only had a small cold from falling in the lake which was quickly treated with some feverfew, and now she was ready to be sent out again. She was visited by her dark forest mentor, Dark'heart, in her sleep the day she entered the den as a reminder of her... 'quest'. Cream'paw came to check up on her mother, making sure she was normal temperature again before sending her out of the den. Small'hiss gently stood and padded out, cringing at the snow crushing under her paws as she reached the heart of camp again. She sighed, her eyes glinting as she saw Dew'tail herding her kits into the nursery. Perfect.. I'll strike when the kits and her are asleep. Along with the clan. Small'hiss purred, turning tail and going to the warrior den. As she brushed past the icicle-like moss hovering over the den, she curled up into her nest and stared into the distance as she thought on how to get the kits. She quickly thought of how she almost drowned just yesterday, and landed the killing method on drowning. I can't pick up both kits.. And if I disturb them while they sleep, they'll start mewing in alarm the moment they feel the ground slip from their paws.. I'll just have to wake them up, tell them I have something to show them and they'll follow me, right? Kits are gullible like that, aren't they? Small'hiss was left in the den with her thoughts, soon laying down her head and falling asleep.
She only snapped back to reality as she felt something shove her on her shoulder. Her pelt bristled and her eyes widened as she saw Dew'tail's kits staring up at her with expanded pupils to adjust to the darkness of the warrior den. "Are you doing okay, Small'hiss?" Black'kit asked, his sister, Blizzard'kit, sitting down next to him. Small'hiss gently nodded, sitting up and nudging the kits. "Go back to your mother. I bet she's worried sick." Blizzard'kit shook her head, mewing excitedly. "She left with the rest of the clan! She left Golden'blaze with us, but he fell asleep." Small'hiss tilted her head and noted how dark the den was, gently stepping outside to see the inky black sky, and the full moon. "Ah.. A gathering." The perfect time to launch my plan. Small'hiss added silently, glancing down to the kits and her paws. "Hey, little guys. I have something I want to show you, come on." She walked to the entrance of the medicine den, hearing the smush of snow under the paws of the kits as they skidded after her. "It's outside of camp, but I need to give you something when we get there." She purred as she walked into the den. She heard a squeak of understanding from Black'kit, fishing out a leaf covered in poppy seeds. She looked down at the poisonous herbs, deadly nightshade and foxglove seeds. Nightshade would be quicker and less painful, but Foxglove seeds paralyze them, which makes their heart fail- They're both quick and painless... Oh, woe is me, which deadly herb to use to poison these little abominations of kits? Small'hiss suddenly was inturrupted as she recalled spotting some hidden deathberries near a bush a few days earlier. She grinned and packed some nightshade in the poppy seeds incase she was wrong, and took the package, leading the kits out of camp. Small'hiss nudged the kits along to the lake, laying down the herb pile and turning to the bushes. "Play around in the snow a small bit, I'll be back soon." She watched the kits quickly dive into the snow as she went to the bush she recalled, picking off some red berries once spotting them and clawing out the seeds, careful to not ingest any of the sap or access seeds. Perfect. Deathberry seeds. Look like nuts.. They're a herb. Small'hiss then wrapped them in a clean leaf and carried them to the kits, who were now coated in snow that if they had the same eye color, she wouldn't be able to tell them apart. She set down the leaf-wrapped seeds, calling the kits over with a mew. She unwrapped the deathberry seeds, nodding at them gently. "These nuts are a special herb. The one I wanted to show you here. Let's eat them on the lake." She purred, watching as the kits eyes lit up and ran into the lake, stopping as Small'hiss did, having brought the seeds along. "Okay. Dig in, little kits. The seeds are only for you. I've had them before." She watched as the kits scarfed down the seeds quickly, licking their lips and looking at each other before their eyes widened and both of them started heaving. The kits crouched over as they coughed, wheezed and heaved, a glint forming in Small'hiss's eye as she watched the kits suffer. Suddenly, the two of them fell limp with their eyes closed along the frozen lake. Small'hiss grinned, wiping the sap of the berries on her paws, before picking up the poppy and nightshade mix, running back to camp to hide them. She was as fast as a monster, feeling as strong as a dog as she chucked the herbs back in their piles, and then ran back out and hid into a bush near the murder scene, having covered herself in snow to mask her scent. After a while, she heard paws. Her ears lifted and she peered through the bush she hid under looking as if it were to fall apart with the slightest movement. The kits were so far away that the clan didn't notice as they went to file into camp. She spotted Dew'tail near the start of the line, her head turning towards the lake to look back at the gathering island. Small'hiss grinned as she saw the horrified expression on the she-cat, letting out a loud yowl of fear as she bounded to her kits, a far distance from land on the lake. A few dark pelts ran as far to the edge of the lake and yowled out to Dew'tail. "Don't fall in! The ice is fragile!" But after those words, Dew'tail reached the kits, and the ice cracked under her paws, submerging both her and the corpses of her kin. Copper'star, Bat'leap, and now Golden'blaze, who seemed to awake, dashed out carefully and stopped at the edge of the crack, but the queen was already long gone. Small'hiss creeped away, jumping into the camp around the ice-caked stone, sneaking into the warrior den and laying in a pretend sleep. She was roughly shoved in her shoulder and drowsily lifted her head to see Smoke'flower towering above her. "Small'hiss! D-Dew'tail- Her kits! They all fell in the lake!" Small'hiss lifted her head with fake shock, making her eyes widen as she quickly ran after Smoke'flower, leading her to the lake, only for Torn'foot to halt her. Everybody looked sorrowful, Copper'star approaching with a murmur. "Dew'tail, Black'kit and Blizzard'kit are gone..." Small'hiss couldn't help a faint smile crossing her face, beside her head bowing in a silent vigil for the queen and her kits, but her thoughts were only filled with wonders of what quest Dark'heart would give her next, instead of sorrows and prayers for the deceased cats. Small'hiss glanced around at her other clanmates. Golden'blaze, Sun'breeze and Night'paw were pressed together, Night'paw's small black figure pressed between the two yellow pelts of the warriors, tears running down all three cats pelts. Small'hiss felt a tingling sensation ring through her pelt, sitting silently until Copper'star demanded them into camp and their sleeping quarters, which the entire clan sorrowfully agreed. The nursery would be empty for a while, and that made Small'hiss feel accomplished.
