"My pretty lady! I brought Chinese food!" Spencer sang, walking into the kitchen where Mae sat peacefully reading a book.
She discarded her book, her entire freckle-dusted face lit up as she pictured the mouth-watering orange chicken that hid inside the grease-soaked paper bag labeled Huang's Kitchen.
"Okay, so I bought two of everything so we can just heat it up tomorrow and I won't have to cook." Spencer drawled out his words slowly, subtly teasing the frizzy haired girl about her painful lack of cooking skills.
"I can so cook!" Mae gasped dramatically, pressing her palms to her heart, feigning offense.
"Puh-lease! You burn water." He teased while he quickly unpacked the Chinese food.
Rolling her royal blue eyes, Mae leaned forward and grabbed the paper box full of orange chicken and a pair of chopsticks. She slowly peeled open the box of Chinese goodness and took a big whiff of the spicy aroma.
The usual mouthwatering sensation that usually took over her body after smelling the orange gold from the Gods was replaced with the pasta she had several hours earlier climbing its way up her throat.
Covering her mouth with her hands, Mae sprinted to the bathroom, barely making it as she scraped her bare knees on the tile floor before spewing her lunch into the porcelain bowl.
"Mae! What's wrong are you okay?" Spencer panicked, "Did you eat something bad? Was it the chicken? Can I do something? Did I do something?"
He repeatedly raked his long fingers through his ginger hair, messing up the gel and causing a couple stray locks to flop onto his forehead whilst he watched his sick girlfriend with worried eyes.
"Water!" He exclaimed when she still didn't answer him. Rushing to the kitchen, Spencer snatched a plastic bottle and hurried back to a green looking Mae.

How I Met Your Mother played quietly in the New York apartment, where Spencer Hale and Mae Taylor sprawled out on the couch. Mae laid on her back, resting her head on Spencer's thigh.
"What was that, pretty lady?" Spencer whispered, running his fingers through her thick brown curls; his eyes glued to the sleepy girl's profile.
"I don't know, it was the smell of the chicken. It makes no sense, it just happened." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes whilst watching the television.
"When was the last time you had your period?" Spencer suddenly choked, breaking the silence.
"I dunno, Spence. It's like three days lat- HOLY SHIT." She screamed, realizing what Spencer was hinting at.
"No, way. No, way." She popped up from the couch and started pacing around the room. "Nope. Nope. Nope."
Before Spencer said as much as a whisper, he was snatching the keys and running out the door; leaving a hyperventilating Mae alone with her thoughts.
Well, not completely alone.

"I'm back, pretty lady!" Spencer called from the door, nervously clutching a Walgreens bag filled with every available pregnancy test.
"You couldn't of let me know where you were going?" Mae snapped, approaching him from where she was pacing in the kitchen, "I was worried sick. And now I sound like a Mom." Freezing as that three letter word came out of her mouth, "Oh my Lord, too real." She just snatched the bag from the stunned Spencer and rushed to the bathroom.
After what seemed like hours of sitting in alone on the couch, Spencer's head snapped to the right when the bathroom door opened.
"Three minutes," Mae whispered quietly, picking at the hem of her sweater's sleeves.
Without hesitation, Spencer shot up from the couch and wrapped his arms around Mae.
"I'm nineteen, I'm not done being a baby yet. A baby can't raise a baby, Spence." She whimpered, gripping hands of his t-shirt with her fists.
"We're in this together." He mumbled into her hair, as her small body was taken over by shaking sobs.
For much over three minutes, the two unfledged teenagers stood in each other's arms in silence, neither ready to see what was in the bathroom.
Intertwining fingers, Spencer and Mae slowly walked into the bathroom where the four sticks sat, face up.
"You look I can't." Mae squeaked suddenly, bolting out of the bathroom, leaving him alone.
Silently, Spencer continued into the bathroom and glued his eyes to the sticks.

Bringing a hand to his mouth, he stifled a sob.
"Oh my God..." He whispered, unable to keep a smile from spreading across his face. Rushing out of the bathroom without a second thought, he picked up Mae in a bone crushing hug. "We're gonna' have a baby."
