Round 5 Results

Apologies for the delays, everyone. Some real-life stuff happened, a judge never got back to me, other Wattpad-related stuff came up, and you know how it goes. But we're back for the results and the final rounds. Hope you've all had fun.

And now for some tragic news:

On Thursday night, at approximately 3 o'clock AM, sigrist was eaten by a savage jaguar. Though he valiantly pummeled the guts of the enraged beast with his fists from within the creature's innards, tragically it was to no avail. He was discovered partially regurgitated and partially defecated behind the island's Arby's restaurant, amidst untouched Arby's roast-beef sandwiches. As if that weren't horrible enough, while the SmackDown team was in the toilets experiencing post-Arby's distress, some other vile creature wandered along and snatched up his remains. The only traces of sigrist we have left are his abnormally long pinkie fingernail and a single strand of braided pubic hair, which might actually belong to one of the crew.

Rest in peace, sweet prince. We enjoyed your words.

5 FOR PROMPT: GREENPUNK x DYING EARTH went pretty well together. Nice job, dude

3 FOR GRAMMAR

4 FOR ENJOYABILITY: Not a perfect score for this from me, but I did enjoy it still. I like the many-stories-within-one, and I like the science in the subgenres.

Total score - 12/15

1. Prompt Adherence - 5/5

Beautiful use of the prompts.

2. Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation - 3/5

Some missing hyphens, and some additional commas would have improved readability.

3. Story Enjoyability - 5/5

Angus never disappoints, which is something I've said multiple times, I think, and I'm sure I'll continue to say it to whoever happens to be around. I laughed out loud many times, and even felt my eyes getting a bit wet near the end. This one feels epic, and, despite the raunchy humour, it's quite thought-provoking.

1. Prompt Adherence - 5/5

Prompts were used quite effectively. Setting it in New Zealand was a nice touch.

2. Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation - 4/5

The occasional misplaced comma, missing hyphen and typo (Rotorua, not Rotarua).

3. Story Enjoyability - 4/5

Loved the setup, leading up to the five-years-later bit. I would've liked more after that, maybe a horrific scene describing Hannah's return.

Total score - 13/15

-1 point for being below the word count

Combined score - 26/30

1. Prompt Adherence - 5/5

Loved how you mixed the two sub-genres and utilized the image and music prompts.

2. Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation - 2/5

Quite a few missing commas before/after characters being addressed in dialogue. Also a lot of capitalized "He said"s after dialogue where they should have been lowercase, sometimes combined with a period where there should be a comma. The occasional typo.

3. Story Enjoyability - 4/5

McDonald's being the theological-SF component was hilarious. The AcidPunk really fit in well with how you used the rest of the prompts. A funny story, though my enjoyment dropped a little due to the errors.

5 FOR PROMPT: But you know that shot of the mountain from the air isn't the Cayman Islands, right? It's Mount Maunganui. Only the PLACE WHERE I WAS BORN. So I tried to take points off for this but Mike says "It does kinda look like the Cayman Islands" and "I didn't give the name of the location, anyway," so you got lucky. Very lucky.

3 FOR GRAMMAR: Spotted some incorrect words and missing hyphens, probably the same ones Reffster himself found on his reread

5 FOR ENJOYABILITY: That was fun to read. Knew that bitch was a bitch

1. Prompt Adherence - 5/5

Excellent use of the prompts. TeslaPunk and Time Travel worked really well together here.

2. Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation - 3/5

Some missing hyphens, like "18 year old" should be "18-year-old." When used as a title in place of the name, "da" should be capitalized as "Da." A missing possessive apostrophe.

3. Story Enjoyability - 5/5

Very action-packed story with an exciting world. Awesome descriptions. Could easily see this being the start of something bigger.

Advantage from Redemption "Duel" 2 activated... Boosting first Prompt score to 5/5.

With sigrist's tragic death, only one person—the lowest-scoring person—will be eliminated from SmackDown: MadMike's Revenge.

That person is: AllanFisher.

I'm sorry to say it, but you have been eliminated from this game. You wrote hard and well, and I'm pleased you took the time out of your life to enter this weird thing we call a SmackDown. Congrats on making it this far, and I hope you had fun. I loved seeing your covers and art for some of the stories, and I look forward to reading more of Cochran's Worm-Hole Adventures.

The rest of you—got nothin' for ya except these explicit photos of disgraced Hollywood producer and executive Harvey Weinstein sliding a baby cactus up his hairy ass.

Head back to camp and await your next challenge. Round 6 will be going live very soon, so do walk slowly.
