Chapter Two: My life changed that day.......

Eight years later.....

It was a warm afternoon that day. I remember is was the day before I was turning six......

Zehra's POV past flashback

"Honey, have you seen Zehra anywhere?"

Dad asked my Mother.

-Zehra-POV present time-

My Dad wore his white button down shirt which was tucked into his light gray dress pants. Dad also wore his tan suede vest with four antiqued brass buttons over his shirt. His pants were held by the brown & black checker pattern belt that Mom and I got him for his birthday last year.

I never understood how he couldn't get hot in that outfit, but I never asked. What's the point he wasn't ever going to change anyway?

And then my Mom...

I remember what she was wearing that day......

She wore a beautiful navy colored ankle length gown. My Mom liked to show her body to Dad. The dress has cap sleeves covering her shoulders. The sleeves were an eyelash floral lacing starting from the shoulders to her bust in front. In the back, the floral lace started from the shoulders ending mid-back while there the lace thickens to be a low back to below the rib cage becoming a large sash. The dress has a small v-neckline touching the cleavage while in the back the v-neck was narrowed and reached the sash. From the bust line was a chiffon fabric which made an overlay on the lace fabric. Finishing the dress off with a side slit and tight hugging fit. Lucky that Dad got it for her before some else did since it was the very last one left. I had to help him find it since it was their anniversary a few months ago.

She wanted to wear it again for my birthday....since it was a special occasion...plus she loved the dress so much...just not more than me.

Zehra's POV past flashback

My father and I were playing one of my favorite games, tag though with an added cops and robbers twist to it. The point of the game is to run from the person who is it, but the added step is you have to find the person before they catch you and pretend you caught them then they had to surrender to you.

I wore a white ruffled bodice with some decals in the shape of flower petals that end under my chest. Below the line the gown flows in a white color, also the gown is held up by two ribbons that cross over my shoulders meet in a small v-dip at my back. The gown met at my knees and was sleeveless too. Plus it wrapped under my arms to where it stops above my chest fitting me just perfectly.

Next week from today was my birthday I'll be turning six years old. I wanted to wear the perfect dress for my birthday. I didn't want to wait so I wore it today.

The dark rust section of my wavy hair was cascading down my shoulders to my chest and the top half of my hair was pushed back cleanly. Though thick random sections of my hair were an icy silver -white color. I braided the hair at my neck then tie it with a very thin hair ribbon though unfortunately, I tied the ribbon a little loose, but I don't care as long it wasn't in my face I was happy.

Besides those locks of hair had match my fur color well after all. Except for my hand, wrist, feet, and ankles were a creamy white color fur that faded into the butterscotch color fur. Same thing with my belly, neck, and nose, they were a creamy white color.

"No, I have not my dear husband. Though I thought I heard a sound coming from the back of the house."

I think Mom was giving Dad a signal to where I was hiding. I couldn't tell, but I figured that she did. After all, she's a master thief, so she knows most if not all of my hiding spots in our house and in the warehouse.

I see him coming out to the back room where we would keep many of Mom old antiques from her shop to be sold off to collectors, investors, and museums.

My Mom taught me how to climb the rafters in the back of the shelter of our house. Sometimes father forgets to look up into the ceiling where I'd usually hide when we play this game.

Mom was in the kitchen making my birthday cake along with my favorite food shrimp gumbo and some pink lemonade to wash it down. I asked her to make Dad's special tea blend too since I know he doesn't like sweet drinks.

At that's what I had hoped since I'm also getting something that's really important, yet it's something that belongs in my mother's family.

Thought to myself was being happy to just receive the gift because it means that I'll be following what my family has been doing for years.

"Ooh, where could that sneaky panda have gotten to?"

I started to giggle a little bit. Both of my eyebrows were raised, looking down at my Dad below the rafters. I thought that he'd knew that I would be up here.

Maybe he figured I wouldn't be up since it would've been too easy a place to hide in. I didn't realize that he had crept up behind me until it was too late.

"Gotcha you sneaky little girl."

Dad began tickling me from behind. I was completely taken by surprise, so he knew where I was the whole time huh? I couldn't stop laughing as I rolled onto my sides.

Tears of joy came out my eyes. I tried to get my Dad to stop but he said,

"Not until you give up."

I knew he wouldn't stop until I said it, so I had no choice other than to relent to him "demands".

"Alright Dad, I give. I surrender."

Dad held me tightly then made sure I was secure so he could move me to his back.

"Ready my little princess?"

I wrapped my legs around my Dad's waist and my arms around his neck. Feeling that I was secured I nodded at my Dad then I put my head down. I was scared when he began to climb down the columns.

I felt that he stopped. I looked down from my Dad's shoulder...we didn't even reach the ground yet. I looked at him with one of my eyebrows raised.

"Daddy, what's wrong?"

He didn't answer me. Dad, please talk to me....

"Dad-"

BAAAANNNNGG

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

Mom!? I got scared real quick. All I heard was Mom's scream, but why was she?

"Mommy!?" I yelled out.

"Theresia!" Dad called out too.

Dad finally jumped off the rafter column, where we hit the wooden floor softly. His feet didn't make the floor creak. Dad had raised slowly to be on one knee, so he could let me down his back. I carefully removed my legs from his waist to touch the floor, yet not to plant my feet firmly on the floor.

As soon as I removed my arms from his neck, Dad turned to me and placed both of his large hands on my shoulders. His face was serious.

"I need you to do me a big favor princess."

"Yes, Daddy?"

"I need you to go and hide again for me."

Again........but this is no time for a game!

"Will you do that for me?"

He asked me with kindness and sadness in his voice. I didn't want to be alone.

'What if something happens to you, Daddy!?'

But I knew everything would okay. My Dad would never lie to me and he won't start now.

I don't know when I started to cry, but fresh hot tears were streaming down my face. I nodded at him.

He smiled at me with his thumb wiping the tears from my face. I wrapped my fingers around his hand on my right cheek.

"Go and hide. Zehra.."

I was only a few feet away from him when he said,

"Don't come out until I find you okay? Don't come "

I nodded.

He got up fully to his feet. Then ran to where Mom was would be or a least was suppose to be.

All alone I looked around the room for a good hiding spot. I saw an air vent behind one of the huge antique vases. I got on the floor to crawl through the vent.

Once I began through the vent, I soon started to hear a voice. They were muffled, so whoever they belong to were close enough from where I was. So against what Dad told me...I start to move towards the voices. There was a vent above the kitchen, where Mom was supposed to be. I stopped right there then carefully looked through the vent to see Daddy and Mommy......

"Please let my wife go..gah!!"

Dad was pleading for the strange man holding my Mom who was struggling in two men's arms trying to break free from his grip. Two men held Dad down on his knees, helplessly watch the man, who seems to be the leader of these guys. One on Dad's right kicked him in the stomach, Dad leaned forward a red liquid spat out of his mouth. The guy on his left yanked his shirt to sit up again.

"NOOOOOOO!!!"

The man holding Mom by the throat had tightened. Mom's free hand tried to peel the man's arms off her throat. She couldn't break free, the man was too strong.

I looked closer at the man hold Mom, but I couldn't get a good look at his face from where I was at. The man looked to be the same height as Dad, a little thin than him but has some muscles to make up for it. I tried to see if he had any tattoos, scars or maybe listen to his voice and see if I could match it to anyone I knew. Thanks to listening and watching Dad work as a police detective, he would always pay attention to detail in every situation.

What I saw next through that vent would tear a hole in my life that will never be fixed or be replaced ever again. Though it closes up with time yet will always have a mark in my heart.

Mom looked at the vent and saw me. We made eye contact and saw her smile at me with her eyes.

My eyes began to water....Mom please....no..no no

Mommy looked back at Daddy with that same smiled one last time saying...

"I'm so sorry for this....I always loved you...."

The man holding Mommy 's neck tighten even more...and then even more....

"You shouldn't have stolen what was rightfully mine, you filthy thief."

"No." My quiet voice echoed as a whisper.

CRAAAACK

Time had stood still for a Moment. Mom's hand fell to her side and her head slumped forward. The man laughed while he lets go of Mommy. She fell forward. As she fell it seemed as though it was going in slow motion. She barely moved an inch...I wanted her to move, but my mind told me she...she was...she was...

"THERESIA!!!!!" Daddy screamed as she fell to the ground.

The man kicked Mom's side to see if she would move. Nothing....

The men let Daddy go.

He half ran half crawl to Mommy...

He began shaking her, calling her name over and over again. Then finally he just held her close. Dad pushed her hair behind her ears, out of her close eyes. The beauty of her face had shined through and Dad cried louder mixed with screaming in anger.

Mom....Mommy...please you can't be.....mo-mo-Mommy.....

"Well chaps it's time we get going now shall we.." The leader nodded at his men.

Dad didn't even get a chance to lay Mommy down before they took each of his arms dragging him.

Dad tried to break free until Mom's killer grabbed one of the three fire rod's and struck Dad at the back of his head knocking Dad unconscious.

They all laughed as two of them were grabbing Dad dragging him away.

I stayed up in the air vent until I heard their car's engine turn on. When the car's headlights pierced the kitchen window shades illuminating the room, I listened to the car's engine that began fading out. That meant they were leaving our house.

I waited awhile before-

BAAAAAAAANGGGG

I heard the gunshot. It was faint, but I still could hear it. My tears came running out even more now. Now my tears were seeping out of the vent onto the carpet near my mother's blood.

I had to stop crying now. I need to get out now and find help.

Using my hairpin, I'd screwed the bolts that held the air vent in place of the ceiling wall. The minute the vent opened, I fell out the vent landing a few feet from Mom.

"Owie..." I winched in pain.

I did fall pretty hard from the air vent after all...

I got up on my hands and knees...my head hurts so bad. My head was all the way down facing only the floor with my hair splitting into two halves spilling on top my shoulders. I began to breathe heavily when I snapped my head up looking a something in front of me. My eyes bulged out, close to being out of their sockets since they're so huge.

I hesitantly turned my head to the side, then forcefully my eyes to see....

"Mommy...(sniffle)...ar-are yo-yo-you...(sniffles more)...hurt?" fresh hot tears started pouring down my cheeks.

She still didn't make a sound. Her eyes didn't close, not a single muscle twitched at my voice. I began to turn my whole upper body towards Mom to get a better look at her. Every muscle, every bone and every fiber in my body were screaming at me not to go near Mom.

Unfortunately, my body was not listening to them as I began to move towards her. Time had moved slow greatly with each step I took. Finally, I reach her, sitting on my knees looking down at my Mother.

I ran my hands through Mom's hair, fixing it up to be nice and clean.

I kiss her cold dead cheek, I quickly pull away. Mom's cheek was strangely warm. I soon rub my eyes though the tears wouldn't stop.

Since I couldn't stop crying, my mind had started to go into overdrive.

'Okay:

1) Three strangers enter the house.

2) Strangers killed Mom. Now da-dd-daddy tt-t-too

3) I'm all alone....

4) I need to call someone right now....

"I-I-I ha..hav..have to...call..th-th..the pu-pu-police..."

So I finally after I was able to bring myself did.

They came as quickly I called 911 for the police and....the ambulance.

~Thalia's POV flashback end~

From that day onward I vowed to find my both of my parent's killer. What's most important thing had to do for a while was live on. The days after were going to be the toughest days of my life.

I had no one to care for me. My father's family didn't want anything to do with me anyway because of my mother.

The police were driving me to an orphanage where I was to live for awhile until I was old enough to be on my own. I didn't talk to anyone even to the police, but I knew they weren't going to find them.

Besides, why would policemen find the murders of a thief and an ex-cop detective? Yeah like that will be the day. No, I had to do this my way no matter what....even if they don't know who my mother really was...

I never thought as we rolled in front of the orphanage that my life would change....so drastically.

Nor gave a thought that this is where I would meet my best friend that was just like me. Along with two other kids...I have a family again.

"But only time will tell how long it was going to last." a stern feminine voice stated.
