The Rat
Sorry this is a little late, I fell asleep writing last night.
//Your POV//
I fluttered my eyes open to look at fair weather skies through my sunroof.
Black Hat had ahold of my arm, now holding it to his chest.
I literally had no idea what to do, hoping he wouldn't bite me or some shit if I moved.
I slowly slipped my arm out of his grasp, causing him to wake up.
"Morning," I Said as I pressed the button causing my seat go up.
"Good Morning, Y/n, "He sat up and looked out the window, "Are we parked in a fucking parking lot?"
"Yep," I turned the key in the ignition and let the car warm up, turning on the heat and the local radio station.
I started driving, not even knowing where I was going.
I had no idea how to find my dad, nor where to look, so I had to basically run around until I find something.
My head tuned into the talk show that was on the radio, which consisted of two guys talking about the latest crime that happened in this area of Detroit.
"The whole place was cleared. Washing Machines, Dryers, Dishwashers, you name it," One guy said.
"I have a feeling it's for scrap money. There would be basically no other reason to get that many appliances unless you wanted to sell each of them," The other guy suggested.
Black Hat looked confused on why I was so interested in this, "Why are you so invested? It's just an appliance store getting robbed."
"It's just..such an odd place to rob."
"Maybe, or if they really did just want to use all those appliances for scrap."
"I guess," I shrugged.
I drove down the strip and down many, many streets and avenues.
I was lost, no denying there.
We passed Donut shops, banks, fast food joints, shady homes, expensive apartments.
Everything was so differentiating, it was amazing.
The travel across the country really worn out my Toyota, causing it to sputter and rattle.
"I think we're better off going on foot," I suggested.
"Most likely. We'll be able to look around more."
I soon found a free parking lot, thanking whatever god that existed, and left my steady, navy blue horse in the hands of Detroit for a couple hours.
The sidewalks were cracked and roots were crawling through them.
They were chipped and unwelcoming, some portions were even unfinished.
We passed two men, an older one who had white hair tied back was wearing clothes from the 60's and a shiny golden badge, while the other one was younger with dark black hair and fair skin, wearing a black and blue uniform with a blue, triangular badge and was doing amazing tricks with a quarter with his hands, which was pissing the older guy off.
We then passed a guy with half white hair and half red hair with a crimson burn scar under his right eye.
We stopped in front of a convenient store.
"I'm gonna go see if they got a bathroom in there," I pointed with my thumb.
I walked in, leaving Black Hat outside.
After I did my business in the relatively smelly bathroom, I washed my hands, scrubbing like a madman.
I was frustrated, wanting to find my dad as soon as possible.
When I walked out of the bathroom, I bumped into a figure that had the biggest aroma of B.O, I've ever smelled.
"Hey watch-"
The tall dude scanned me, looking up and down, "Well, Hello There~"
Oh, god.
Of course the person I had to walk into had to be a pervert.
'Fan-fucking-tastic.'
"Hi..??"
"What's a doll like you doing around in these parts?" I could see him licking his teeth from under his lip.
The man had, hazel-nut, graying hair styled in a bad hair cut.
Her wore a stained, green hoodie with denim jeans, topped off with a pair of black sneakers.
His beard was frizzy, and he looked he hadn't shaved in a week.
"I was, Ahem, actually looking for somebody. Maybe you know them??" I coughed.
"Lookin' for somebody? Well, if you're looking for a guy to keep you satisfied then you've bumped into the-"
"Yeah, no. I'm actually looking for my dad."
"I can be your daddy~"
I blushed, now wanting to leave, but that urge of wanting to find dad was too much and I didn't move, nonetheless speak.
I felt a hand squeeze my shoulder, "Now that's not how you speak to a lady."
Black Hat stood over me, basically growling at the man standing in front of me.
"His name is Brett L/n," I budded in, not wanting to witness Black Hat kill somebody.
The man's face went pale at the mention of dad, "The Brett L/n?"
I held out the photo of him, trying to prove my point and the man just stared widely at the picture.
"Answer her, will you?" Black Hat scoffed.
"So, you're the daughter of 'Honest Abe' Brett?"
"I guess if that's what you call him, yeah," I shrugged, "Do you know him?"
"I..I honestly wish I didn't. I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle involving him," The man sighed, sounding regretful, "I was at a bad place in a bad time, that's all I can say about it."
Then, a flicker came into his rusty orange eyes, "Hey now! You're his kid, so maybe you can help me out! If I take you to him, will you throw me a bone?"
I looked at Black Hat, who just shook his head, obviously not thinking it was a good idea.
"Dude, I don't even know you and you were literally just grossly flirting at me."
The guy didn't look phased by my comment, "I'm sorry 'bout that, it's a bad habit."
"That still doesn't justify-"
"The name's Jimmy by the way! But when we're in front of your old man, call me Jimmy Rat, since he said he'll cut me up if I don't tell people to call me that in his presence," Jimmy interrupted Black Hat.
"Y/n," I nodded.
"What a pretty name!" Jimmy smiled.
"Y/n, can I talk to you in private for a moment?" Black Hat asked me and I nodded.
We stood outside the convenient store, the cold air pounding my face.
"I don't trust that guy, Y/n. You're taking a risk," Black Hat told me.
"Honestly, I don't either but risks are the only thing we have as an option right now. Let's just see what happens with this guy, please."
Black Hat looked at me for a solid minute, then sighed.
"Fine, but I'm watching him."
