//Your POV//
"Saved you?"
He paused, giving me a confused glare.
A smile grew on his face, the same from before.
"PFFFT!! As if I, a villain, would "save" an individual like you!" He made air quotes with his fingers, "I merely helped you since I felt pity for you!"
He laughed his narcissistic ass off for another 2 minutes before regaining his composure.
"Are you done?" I sneered.
"Yes, I'm satisfied."
I turned from him, wanting to leave the park.
I heard footsteps quickly go up to me.
'Just ignore him. He'll go away eventually.'
I walked out of the park, him still behind me.
I could tell he wanted to make me feel like the shit of the Earth.
He wanted to embarrass me.
I took a deep, exasperated breath and turned to face him, "Don't you have anything better to do? Blow up a planet or some shit?"
"There was two problems in that sentence. 1.) You stereotyped me, 2.) No."
"So you just happened to be at the same park I came to, sitting behind a bush, and waiting for some guy to attack me?" I rolled my eyes.
"No, well, sort of," He admitted.
"Let me guess; You're here to annoy me?"
"No wonder you were graduated as a valedictorian," He chuckled.
"Looks like you've done all your homework," I scoffed, "What's your point?"
"I don't have a point, really. I just find it amusing to piss you off."
"Would've thought so."
I walked down the street and waiting to go to the cross walk, pressing the button.
Black Hat stood over my shoulder.
"Could you not?"
"Sorry, but you can't talk me out of this."
I sighed again.
I took out my phone and googled the nearest book store.
There was one nearby and the website claimed they had books in English, so yay for me.
I walked the 2 blocks, the demon still following me.
I didn't talk to him, not wanting to.
I begged to whatever god that was up there to make him leave.
I stood in front of the book store.
"Quite the bookworm, I see?" He smirked.
"Yes but I assume you already knew that, didn't you?"
"Indeed."
As expected, he followed me in, stunning the employees and customers alike.
Once I got what I was looking for (a realistic-fiction novel about astronomy and romance/heartbreak) and paid at the cash register, I mouthed an "I'm sorry" to the women at the register and she only nodded giving the "it's okay, good luck" look.
"What book did you get?"
I ignored him, cradling the novel in my arms.
"C'mon, you can't ignore me forever."
"*Sigh* It's called Lightyears of Regret," I gave in.
"Interesting title. Tell me more," He insisted.
"I don't know much about it, a colleague recommended it to me. I know that it's a romance title and astronomy and What I read from the back is that there's a guy who is an astronaut on a space shuttle with a female astronaut who flirts at him for the beginning of the expedition until the man gives in and has sex with her. He feels terrible since he has a wife and a stepdaughter back on Earth. It sounds pretty good."
"Sounds dramatic. I didn't know you were into that genre, you seem like someone who wouldn't," Black Hat seemed surprised.
"Well there's a lot of things you could know if you just asked."
"Hm. Maybe I could do that sometime," He said sarcastically.
I eventually found myself (or in this case, us) back at the same coffee shop.
"Can you wait outside if you're going to follow me?" I asked him.
"Whatever," He shrugged.
'Thank the stars.'
I walked in to see the place dead and Rae on her phone looking bored as ever.
"Hey Rae."
"Oh, hi! You can't seem to stay away from here, Huh?" She asked, "Same as before?"
"Yeah," I nodded as I pulled out my 5 dollars.
She was making the coffee when her expression changed.
She caught a glimpse out the window.
"Y-Y/n..Are you aware of-"
"Just ignore him. He's been following me around for 30 minutes now."
"Why?" She looked scared.
"He just wants to annoy me."
She took my five dollars as I dropped some money in the tip jar.
"I see you've been busy today," I chuckled, wanting to calm her down.
But who in all honesty would be able to stay calm knowing a demon capable of killing you in more than a thousand possible ways was standing out your window, watching you.
"Heh, yeah. It's been empty all day."
"Well I guess I better get going. Hopefully he'll get bored enough to leave me alone," I sighed as I took my power juice from Rae's hand.
"Stay Safe."
"I will. Bye Rae."
"See ya, Y/n."
I walked out of the door and started walking without him.
"Rae Acosta. Her mother is a nurse, Her father is a builder. She makes enough to pay for her college tuition every semester by saving up. She dreams of being a Lawyer."
"Thanks for sharing?" I cocked my head at him.
'He's just showing off.'
"Is there a reason you despise me?" He asked.
"Well, maybe if you'd just leave me alone, maybe I wouldn't. What does it matter to you anyways?" I snarled.
"It doesn't matter. I just wonder about you, where all that negativity comes from, not that I like positivity."
Before I could say anything, my phone decided to ring.
It was mom, calling at the best yet worst time.
"Shut up and let me take this."
I put the phone to my ear.
"Hey mom," I smiled, turning away from Black Hat.
"Hello, Starlight. How are you?"
"I should be asking the same for you. I'm fine, you?"
"I'm the same as always. Sometimes I feel like these walls are swallowing me whole, haha! I wish I could just get out of here," My mom's once beautiful sing song voice was now out of tune, and weak.
I can't imagine how she could stay so positive and happy.
Then again, she's an enigma.
"Mom, can I call you later? I promise I'll call when I'm back at the hotel. I'll tell you about this new book I bought," I told her.
"It's okay, Starlight. You and your books, I wish I was like you as a kid. See you soon. Love you."
"Love you too. Bye."
And she hung up.
I turned back around to see him giving me a sly smile.
"What?"
"Starlight, Huh?" He snorted.
"Don't you ever call me that."
"Oh, sorry. Only your mommy can call you that!"
"Shut up."
"What's wrong? Y/n L/n misses her mommy?" He teased me.
I clenched my fist.
"Listen. You can talk shit about me, my job, how I live my life, but don't you ever talk shit about my mother!" I raised my voice at him
"What's so special? I'm doing what I do to everyone."
"Not her, she doesn't deserve it!"
"Why not?"
"Because she's been through enough this past year and she doesn't need dickheads like you to remind her of that! She's lost her self esteem with the chemo taking out her hair, being stuck in that hospital, and being left by everyone but me!" I vented at him.
He didn't say anything.
Black Hat didn't open his mouth for another 5 minutes.
I wiped my eye, refusing to cry and let him feel like he won.
"Talk about me all you want, but she's the one person who doesn't need salt in the wound," I mumbled, looking down.
"Your mother..has cancer?"
I only nodded.
Black Hat bit his lip.
I don't think he knew what to say.
"I apologize, I shouldn't have pushed you."
I looked up, my eyes wide.
"Did you just apologize?"
"Yes but don't expect to hear it often," He grumbled, "What kind?"
"Brain cancer. The tumor was found and she was diagnosed three months ago. She's been staying positive but she's getting weaker and weaker every day."
"If I may ask, what about your father?" He asked.
"Dad I barely remember. He left when I was young."
"I see," He looked at me, making direct eye contact, "To ease the tension, would you like to go to dinner with me?"
His offer surprised me.
"Um..sure," I accepted.
Why? I don't know.
"I know of a place that's good. Consider this part of my apology and maybe something to make you feel better," He started to lead me.
I threw out my empty cup of what was coffee and checked the time.
5:00 and dinner time, he couldn't have chose better timing.
"Can I just, go to my hotel room for a minute? I need to change," I requested, referring to my sweat stained t-shirt and messy hair.
"Of course. How about we make it a little faster, though?" He asked holding out his hand.
I hesitantly took it.
"Close your eyes."
I shut my eyes tightly and felt a wave of nausea hit me.
"You can open now."
I realized that we were in my hotel room.
"How did you know that this is my room?"
"I have my ways," He smirked.
I went to my suitcase and got out a nice outfit and headed to the bathroom.
"Wait here," I told him and closed the door.
The blouse was black and showed my shoulders.
The pants were also black, ripped, denim jeans and I also wore combat boots.
I let hair down fall down and brushed it out a little.
Once I walked out (and was over my nausea), Black Hat held out his hand again.
"How about we just walk?" I suggested, not wanting to actually throw up.
"Whatever."
And with that, we were off.
