The Beginning
//Your POV//
The morning in the hotel room was pleasant.
I woke up in the sheets, not sweaty nor freezing.
The sun shined from the window and through the curtains into my room.
The sunlight illuminated my figure, as I saw in the mirror.
The temptation of staying in bed was large, but today was the big day.
I picked out a professional outfit, which consisted of a *Favorite color* blouse and black dress pants.
My shoes were black flats and my hair was put in a bun (if possible).
I googled the nearest coffee shops and I found one around the corner.
"Just need my coffee," I sighed.
I grabbed my bag and put in all the things I needed.
Pencil, Notepad, Money for coffee, phone, card key.
Once I had everything, I left the hotel room and locked the door with my card key.
I took the elevator and left the hotel, despite the clerk asking me if I wanted breakfast, which I declined.
I went to the coffee shop called "Cafe de Coco" or "Coco's Cafe" (thank god that they had translations).
I got a F/F latte and was about to pay the girl but she stopped me.
"No, no. It's on the house."
"What? Why?"
"I know what you're most likely doing today and this is my way of wishing you luck. I hope everything goes smoothly and you stay safe. I'll say a prayer for you," The Kind girl who looked about my age nodded.
"Thank you so much. How did you know that I was going to the interview today?"
"You seemed nervous and I didn't recognize your face."
"...I guess I am a little. I have to treat this like every other job. No special snowflakes," I admitted.
"Well, I wish you the best of luck. I pray to god that you'll be safe."
"Thank you."
"See you soon!" She called as I left.
I checked the directions on my phone.
'No coordinations...of course.'
I sighed and decided I had to ask a local.
I walked up to a woman walking along the sidewalk with a baby in a carriage.
"Um, Excuse me?" I tapped on her shoulder.
"Sí?"
"I'm sorry to bother you but do you know where the Black Hat organization headquarters is located?" I asked her, hoping she knew english.
A look of terror was on her face.
"No quiero hablar de ese lugar," She said in Spanish and ran off, pushing the stroller.
"Greeaattt," I sighed sarcastically.
I had to try again.
I walked up to a man also walking down the sidewalk.
"Excuse me?" I walked in front of him.
"Yes?" He must've notice I don't speak Spanish.
"Do you know where Black Hat organization HQ is?"
"Oh...are you that reporter?"
"Journalist, but yes, I am who you're thinking of."
"It's house 1 on Evil street, around the corner. You'll know when you found it."
"Go figure. Thank you, sir."
"No problem. I saw what happened before and you have to understand that most locals are so afraid that they don't want to even speak his name."
"I see," I Said as I pulled out my notepad to take more notes from locals and wrote down what he just said, "Do you mind?"
"Not at all."
"Can you tell me more please?"
"Okay. They say he's always watching, which I believe. He knows what everyone is doing right now, me, you, the whole town," The Man had sweat droplets coming down his face.
I scribbled that down.
"Video Cameras?"
"No."
"Then how?" I tilted my head.
"He just knows."
I wrote that down.
"That's a bit unsettling. How do you all live knowing that?" I asked.
"I honestly don't know. I mean, you're safe as long as you don't bother him. I don't even go down Evil street."
"Most people don't, I presume."
"Sí."
"Thank you. Can I have your name so I can credit you?"
"Miguel Rodriguez," He nodded.
"Thanks again," I Said, beginning to walk off.
"No problem," He waved, walking away as well.
I knew damn well that no taxi would bring me to Evil street.
I had to walk.
Before I started, I decided it be best if I called my mom just in case.
"Mom?"
"*Cough* Good Morning..or night, Starlight," My mom coughed.
"Morning. Mom are you feeling okay?"
"I'm alright, just a bit stuffy that's all. Is today the day?"
"Yes."
"You're scared, aren't you?"
I took a long sip of my coffee.
"A little. The locals told me some freaky stuff that got me a little unsettled, but I think I'll be fine."
"Stay safe, Starlight. I won't keep you any longer, I love you."
"I love you too, mom."
She hung up.
I put my phone back in my bag and started walking down the street.
I soon reached the corner and read the sign pointing westbound.
"Evil Street."
