Sierra

We must have flown for hours but the sun refused to peek over the horizon by the time most of us were to exhausted to keep flapping. Jelu had woken up halfway through the flight and was sticking by his brother.

Lysander remained still.

We landed soon after words with the echoing laughter on Tenebris in our heads. She was a claw now, which was somehow more disturbing, I wondered if the person she possessed was anyone I knew.

Jay was all over it. I could see the sweat slicked off his fur as he had us running around for different herbs.

"Sarah, in my pouch there are a few stubs of aloe, Feurige, I need you right here. Everybody else look for small white flowers with giant yellow balls on them."

Feurige got to stand there and chew plants mainly because Jay needed the poultice heated up. After finding a few more scraggly looking flowers called Chamomile, most of it was given to Lysander, the aloe was saved for us, and there wasn't much.

Skylark stood by her teacher's side. But the most shocking but was when Sierra refused to keep looking for flowers.

"I can't leave him!" She cried, lying down beside Lysander's body. "Not now, please!"

There were tears in her eyes as she said it.

"We need all the help we can get Sierra. The rest us are still hurt." I pointed out, shocked by her refusal.

Jelu was also opted out because he had devolved a sudden headache.

"Is everything all right Seirra?" Zara asked.

"No, Does everything look fine?" She snapped, her eyes turning to slits.

We both stepped back from out teacher, so unused to this strange behavior.

Her gaze softened. "I'm sorry it's just. I can't stand losing one of the team."

"Oh come on." Skylark hissed. "You're in love with him. You love my teacher!"

My mind reeled as I watched them bicker back and forth. Zara had a dumbstruck look on her face. But it all made sense. Great Glamora I am a complete bird brain! How could I have not seen it before?

Her ears flew back. "Did he tell you?"

"No, it was blatantly obvious. Plus the only reason he was in that fire was because he was looking for you!" She screeched, tears falling from her face.

"What?" Sierra breathed. "No, no this. It wasn't supposed to happen this way. This is all my fault."

"Yes it is!" Skylark seethed. "He was always sneaking off with you instead of spending time with me! And now he's going to die!"

"Skylark stop." Zara snapped.

"He's not going to die." Jay said huskily, leaning over Lysander's body. "He's still breathing you birdbrains stop being so dramatic."

"You stop being dramatic!" Skylark yelled at Jay, who didn't even flinch. "You have no idea how stressful this has been for me!"

My heart ached as I watched my best friends and my teacher fight. This was tearing us apart. But I couldn't stand to see Skylark in such agony. She looked so broken.

"Hard for you!" Seirra shot back. "I'm carrying his kits!"

Everyone fell silent.

"What?" Zara and I asked at the same time.

Seirra looked miserable, silver tear cutting through her sooty fur and I noticed just how bloated her belly was.

Everything clicked into place.

"I would just like to say as Meðal-claw, I already knew." Jay drawled. Sarah nodded, handing him another stalk of plant while he broke it open and dribbled he juice over his brother's tongue. Jelu made a face but swallowed it.

"I figured." Seirra sighed. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before but I didn't want to be left behind. I needed to make sure you were all safe! I can't do that if I'm stuck in a den somewhere waiting weeks for kittens!"

"How far along are you?" Sarah asked. "Please, you don't want to endanger the health of you kits do you?"

Her ears flew back again. "Six weeks."

Sarah raised her eyes to heavens. "Great Glamora you shouldn't even be here!"

"That's what I mean!" She groaned. "I have to protect you." Seirra looked directly at the two of us.

I opened my mouth to say something, but had no words. I stared at her in shock still. And a quick glance over at Zara revealed she was feeling the same way. I can't believe she would keep something this big from us.

As if hearing his name. Lysander coughed weakly and opened his eyes.

"Thank Glamora, I was so worried, we thought you were going to die!" Seirra gasped.

Lysnader smiled weakly and took a long look around from his spot on the ground.

"I guess our little secret is out isn't baby?" He laughed, resting his head against the ground again.

"I told you he would be fine." Jay mumbled under his breath.

Skylark twitched. "You two are UNBELIEVABLE! I risked my life because I trusted you!" She screamed and ran off into the forest.

"Zach, Zara. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner-"

"It's okay." Zara interrupted, I didn't stop her. My eyes were following the calico as she ran.

"I understand honestly, and am willing to make bygones be bygones, just please don't hide anything else that might endanger your own life and the lives of others?" I pleaded, walking off.

    "Where are you going?
Zara asked.

"I need to make sure Skylark doesn't go to far." I explained.

Then I spread my wings and started after the she-claw.

Hopefully I could help her see the good in this situation. There was another reason too, I didn't really know it but some other feeling had me chasing after her.

I guess I would find out when I found her.
