⚜️9⚜️ - Wishing on Dandelions

La chance vient à ceux qui essaient

Luck comes to those who try

I twirled the dandelion in my fingers and stared at the small puffs on it. All the wishes I held in my heart were running through my mind as I gathered my breath to blow on it.

"Fancy meeting you here," a deep voice boomed, startling me.

I jumped up to my feet and turned around to face him. "Oh. Yes. Hello, um...?"

"Jaesung," he reminded with a smile.

"Jaesung, yes. Hello, Jaesung."

His eyes fell on my hand. "Oh! Making a wish?"

I snorted. "No! I don't believe such things. I don't need it." I tossed the dandelion away.

"Aight." He shrugged. "What are you up to?"

"Oh, just..." I glanced at my office building. "Out for lunch. I think."

"Right. How's work at JL Retail?"

How did he know that I- Oh, he heard my phone call back then. Also I'm standing next to the building...

"Just swell." I clapped my hands and exhaled sharply.

"If you're alone, would you like to go for lunch with me? I was heading to my favorite diner's place."

I stared at his face. If I went with him, it might take longer to eat because I had company. "Oh. Uh... I don't know... I don't have much time for lunch because of work..."

His eyes suddenly flashed red and my phone buzzed with a message. I took it out from my pocket and read what my superior sent. Everyone got a bonus from the company.

I gasped.

"Is everything okay?"

I looked up at Jaesung and fumbled with my words for a moment. Something fortunate happened when his eyes changed color again.

If we got bonus, people would come in to work later after lunch. I had to talk to him while he was here.

"Yeah, I'm free. Lead the way?"

"Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub," Jaesung cheerfully said before taking a bite off his sandwich. He let out happy noises as he chewed.

I fiddled with my fork and started with a lighter topic. "Um, I was just curious. The girl, with the blue hair? You come in to the flower shop with sometimes... Is she your girlfriend?"

He choked on his sandwich. "Heck no! I don't date while working."

I pursed my lips. "Okay. Sorry."

"She's like a sister to me," he chimed. "We're lucky to have someone like her with us. She's so strong."

I took some chicken slices and chewed slowly, thinking how I should approach with my questions. "I see."

"You know... I admire you."

It was my turn to choke. "Sorry?"

"You have been trying and trying again, working hard for what you want to do. I'm sure life has not been easy but you don't give up."

I blushed a little. "That's... Everyone does that, it's nothing special."

"That doesn't mean you weren't in pain."

I widened my eyes at him and sat speechless for a while. It was weird being acknowledged. As if someone finally heard my cry for help. Someone finally answered my echoes.

"You know..." I placed my fork down. "I sometimes think if my hard actually pays off..."

"What do you mean?"

"The job and the apartment... I got them because of luck." Specifically, because of him. "Without luck, my hard work would have never been acknowledged... I didn't even need to work hard if all it took was a simple stroke of luck."

"I think otherwise..."

I looked up at him. He gave me a pained smile.

"Luck comes to those who try."

His words made me stop.

"Even if there was no luck, you would have gotten those things in the end sooner or later," he said so confidently and continued eating his sandwich.

His words made my heart shake.

They wanted me to believe myself.

"You said it yourself. You don't need dandelions."

"Here."

I eyed the soda Yoongi was giving me in suspicion. He was the type to ask for money but not the type to give me something for free.

"Don't worry," he chuckled. "I didn't poison it or something. I can't do that."

I took it and thanked him as he sat down beside me.

"Hello to you, too. What are you here for today?"

I shrugged. "Nothing. I just wanted to hear you play."

"Pay up."

I glared at him. "I knew you'd say that."

"Do you know how hard musicians live?"

The dream I had flashed in my mind. "I think I'm aware..."

He turned to look at me surprised. "What are you thinking?"

"Just... How sad it is that a child would throw away his dream of being a musician because it's hard. To give it up." I looked at him, wondering if it really was him that I dreamed of. "Have you... experienced that?"

He looked away. "Sad? What will feeling sad do? When it's already too late, nothing can be helped."

"Well... at least you're playing piano here," I murmured, trying to salvage the mood.

He never looked this helpless before.

"I don't know..."
