Chapter 64

"Don't want to miss what happens next?" Virgil repeated in his head as he crept down the steps. "What on Earth does that mean?"

"It means go outside, you little shit." Janus' voice snapped in his head, making Virgil jump. Virgil grabbed a window sill so he didn't fall.

"Glad to see you're back to normal, Janus." Virgil muttered.

"Feeling better." Janus' voice said confidently. "Now go."

Virgil rolled his eyes. There was a sound from out in the hall that made him pause, shrinking around the side of the stairs.

"-cause you messed it all up!" Edin yelled.

"I didn't do anything!" Thalia snapped. "It's you who's the problem here, Edin."

"Oh, if you weren't a girl, I would hit you." Edin growled.

"I'm your sister. You can't hit me anyway." Thalia snapped. She turned on her heel and marched away from Edin. Edin curled his hands into fists before kicking a chair and storming off in the opposite direction.

"What in the world...?" Virgil wondered. "Whatever. At least they're not yelling at me." Carefully, Virgil crept down the rest of the stairs and took the side door out to the garden.

Patton looked up as a door opened. He stood up, balling his hands into fists. If he had to punch someone to find out where Virgil was, he wouldn't hesitate.

Patton tip-toed around to the side of the tower to try and get a good view of whoever had just come out. His face split into a grin.

"Virge!" He yelled excitedly. He tackled Virgil in a hug from behind, making Virgil jump.

"Pat, Jesus Christ!" Virgil said. "Don't do that!"

"Sorry, sorry, sorry." Patton said. Still, he was grinning like anything. "Where were you? What happened?"

Virgil looked up at the house before grabbing Patton's hand and pulling him behind the tower.

"Okay, you're not gonna believe this - I mean, I barely believe it myself -" Virgil said, "but Edin locked me in the tower."

Patton's eyes widened. "He did?!" He asked. "I knew there was something up about him. D'you know why?"

Virgil let out a sigh that sounded more like a broken laugh and slid down the side of the tower to the ground. "He thinks I'm a thief." He said, the words broken. "He was gonna call the police on me and you. And you didn't do anything! And you're my only friend. I can't let that happen."

Patton sat down next to Virgil. "It's not going to happen." He said. "I mean, look, you got out, didn't you?"

"Yeah, thanks to Thalia." Virgil said bitterly.

"Thalia?" Patton repeated. Virgil nodded.

"Yeah." He said with a laugh. "She had a change of heart or something. Unlocked the door. I'm still scared, though. Last time she was nice to me, it was all part of a plot just to hurt me more."

"Well... we could always run." Patton said. "Run away, now. You could hold up at my house for a while, we could wait it out together."

Virgil shook his head. "I can't, Pat." He sighed. "This place is my home. I want it back. And besides, if we did run and I did 'disappear', Edin would check your house first. He knows we're in this to the very end."

"Okay." Patton said slowly. "Well, what d'you want to do then?"

Virgil shrugged. "I don't know." He said quietly. "Wait, I guess. Wait for something to change."

"Okay." Patton gave his best friend a smile. "We'll wait then. Wait for things to change."

The new episode is slowly creeping up on me and I'm just constantly pushing it away in favour for Patton and Virgil fluff.
Bye,
Blaize
