Chapter 63
Hey, Edin?" Thalia asked, looking up from her useless needlework. Edin didn't bother looking at his sister as he continued pacing.
"What?" He asked sharply.
"Where's Virgil?" Thalia asked. She dropped her legs over the edge of the sofa. "Shouldn't he be up now?"
Edin shrugged, a barely hidden smile on his face. "He's in his room, I believe."
Thalia looked at her brother with a newly instilled fear. "Edin, what did you do?"
"Me?" Edin asked, scoffing. "I didn't do anything. Little Devil brought this on himself."
Thalia looked down at her needlework. "Edin?" She asked again. "What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything!" Edin snapped. He glared at Thalia. "The Little Devil brought this on himself. I just need to find the right moment to get the police." He said this last part under his breath but in the silent room, Thalia heard every word.
Thalia jumped up off the sofa. "Edin, whatever you did- I'm going to stop you!" She said. Edin rolled his eyes.
"Sit back down, Thalia." He said through gritted teeth. "This doesn't involve you."
"If it involves Virgil, it involves me." Thalia said. "It's a family matter, Edin, you shouldn't-"
"The Little Devil isn't our family!" Edin yelled. "He never was and he never will be!"
"We live in his house, Edin." Thalia said quietly. "We've been right beastly to him and he doesn't deserve any of it."
Edin laughed at the ridiculousness of Thalia's statement. "Don't forget you're the one who thought up being so horrid to him."
"I didn't continue it, though." Thalia snapped.
"Yes you did!" Edin scoffed. "You've gone along with every single one of my plans because somewhere inside, you hate Little Devil as much as I do."
"I don't! I don't hate Virgil!" Thalia protested.
"Then what? You strongly dislike him?" Edin asked. He laughed. "Face it, Thalia. You may not be as overt with your hate but you still hate him. He's a detestable person, that's just him."
"He's not, he's not!" Thalia said, stamping her foot.
"Oh, sure. Throw a tantrum, that'll make everything better." Edin said, crossing his arms. "You're such a baby, Thalia."
Thalia glared at Edin. "Whatever you did to Virgil," she said quietly, "I'm going to help him. Even if it's just this once."
"Good luck helping a criminal." Edin said, rolling his eyes. Thalia paused.
"Criminal?" She asked quietly.
"Hark, she is intrigued!" Edin declared sarcastically. "Yeah, he's a thief. He stole clothes and shoes and probably other things."
Thalia stared at her brother. "I don't believe you." She said. "You're lying."
"I'm not, I'm telling the truth!" Edin defended. "I caught him red-handed!"
Thalia shook her head. "You're lying." She repeated. "I'm not going to listen to a single word from you."
Thalia turned around and walked out of the room.
There was a little knock on the door, making Virgil jump. He looked at Janus, who shrugged from their position on the window sill.
"Virgil?" Thalia's voice asked from the other side of the door. Virgil shrank away. "Virgil, are you in there?"
Virgil didn't reply. Instead, he cast another look at Janus, who merely shrugged again.
"Virgil, if you're in there, please say something." Thalia said. Virgil swallowed.
"Help." He said quietly. There was silence and then the lock turned in the door. Virgil's heard Thalia's footsteps hurry away. He looked at Janus.
"Did she really just-?"
Janus shrugged, trying to hide a small grin. "Inevitable future." He said. Virgil stared at them.
"That was the inevitable future?" He asked. Janus shrugged again.
"Well, go on." They said. "Don't want to miss what happens next."
