Chapter 38
Virgil hugged his elbows as he walked around the gardens. He shouldn't be this nervous. Actually, maybe he should be this nervous since he was meeting a prince he was almost definitely attracted to.
Virgil spotted Roman near one of the walls of the castle. It looked like he was trying to dance but he kept tripping over his own feet. Virgil covered his mouth to stop laughing. It was kind of... cute how out of place Prince Roman looked in his own palace.
"Hey, Princey." Virgil said once he was a little closer. Roman jumped, tripped on air and fell down on the grass.
"Holy shit, are you okay?" Virgil asked. Roman asked, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." He said. He patted the ground beside him. "It's just grass, see?"
"Yeah but you could still be hurt." Virgil hesitated then took Roman's hand, trying to haul him up. "Jesus, you're heavy."
"Oh, wow, thanks." Roman said sarcastically. He let go of Virgil's hand and got up on his own.
Virgil rubbed the back of his head. "Sorry." He said. "Didn't think."
"No, it's fine." Roman said. "It's not the worst thing someone's ever said to me. Anyway, how'd you sneak up on me?"
Virgil shrugged. "I didn't know I did. Hold on, you've got grass in your hair."
"Oh, um," Roman ran his hands through his hair, messing it up. "Gone?" He asked.
Virgil shook his head and laughed. "Hold still." Virgil leaned up on his tip-toes and picked the small strands of grass out of Roman's hair. "There. Done."
Virgil tried to ignore the fact he was blushing. "How did I sneak up on you?" He asked.
Roman shrugged. "I think... I think it's because of how you walk." He said. "You don't walk with any type of pattern."
Virgil shrugged. "Anyway, um, I'm really sorry again." He said, messing with the cuff of his jacket. "Also, were you dancing?" He asked, a little bit of a chuckle in his voice.
Roman laughed. "I was trying." He said. "I haven't danced properly since I was about ten and I can't remember any of it."
"I mean, at least you actually got to dance once in your life." Virgil said. "My dad never saw a reason to teach me. It's stupid, really."
"I'd have to say dancing is stupid." Roman said. "Just like 'ah, yes, let's dance around in a circle for no reason other than our parents have decided we should get married'. I mean, it's idiotic." He laughed.
"I wouldn't say it's a circle, it's more of a... circular square?" Virgil guessed, laughing.
"Same difference." Roman said. "Anyway, this is going to sound stupid, isn't it?" He asked. "Um, I was just wondering if there was a way you liked to be referred to. Just because I can't honestly tell from your voice and-"
"He/him." Virgil said. He had sensed that Roman was getting nervous. "Thanks for asking."
"It's no problem." Roman said. "I'm glad you came back." He smiled softly. The light seemed to have caught his face just right for Virgil to realise how damn attractive this prince actually was.
"Shit." Virgil thought. "Did you think I wouldn't come back?" He asked. Roman shrugged.
"I don't know. I'd hoped but I can never honestly be sure." He said.
"Well, I did come back." Virgil said. "And I'm glad I did too."
