Chapter 37
Remus touched his brother on the shoulder, making Roman jump.
"You good, Ro?" Remus asked.
"Hm? Yeah, fine." Roman said. He sighed and fiddled with his cuff. "Just... what if they don't come back tonight?"
"Ro..." Remus trailed off into a sigh and blinked a couple of times. "You're meant to be the smarter sibling here." He said eventually. "Of course they're going to come back! They said they would, didn't they?"
"Yeah, but..." Roman stopped, trying to find a reason why his mystery forest sprite wouldn't come back. "What if they were lying?" He said half-heartedly.
Remus groaned. "Jesus Light, Ro!" He said. "You are the fucking prince! Not just a prince, the prince! They. Like you. Okay?!" Roman opened his mouth to say something else. "Don't say anything or I'll defenestrate you."
Roman closed his mouth slowly. "Fine." He mumbled.
"There we go!" Remus said. Then, he sighed again, rolling his eyes. "Come on, idiot. You're the better looking twin by like an inch-" Roman snickered. "Don't tell anyone I said that." Remus said, poking his brother in the arm. "And you've managed to bag this kid in one night. They'll come back, okay?"
"Fine." Roman said. He smirked a little. "You admitted I'm better looking!"
"Don't tell anyone I said that!" Remus said. Roman laughed and Remus rolled his eyes. It was nice to see his brother happy, even if Remus didn't like him.
Virgil stood in the shadow of the castle, crossing his arms awkwardly. Should he be here? Should he really be here?
"Maybe I should just go home." He thought. "I know I told Princey I'd be here but I don't even know if he remembers."
"Virge?" Someone asked, making Virgil leap about a foot in the air.
"Pat?!" Virgil asked. Patton scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Yep. Where'd you get the fancy clothes?" He asked. Virgil looked down at his outfit.
"Uhm... Would you believe me if I said Edin let me borrow-"
"No." Patton said. He giggled. "Did you steal them?"
"Uh- yes." Virgil said, eager to hop on any lie. "I'm a dangerous criminal, stay back!" They both laughed. Patton held out his coat.
"What d'you think of my outfit?" He asked.
"It's nice." Virgil said. "Suits you." Patton laughed.
"Thanks."
"I thought you said you weren't gonna come to the ball." Virgil said.
Patton shrugged. "I wasn't." A sort of dreamy smile crossed his face. "But then I met someone."
"You too, huh?" Virgil asked. Patton clasped his hands in front of him and swung this way and that.
"Yup." He grinned, completely alight with happiness. "And he's so sweet. And really smart. And super, super cute." Patton giggled. "Yeah, really cute."
"You're completely done for." Virgil said. Patton blinked behind his square glasses and laughed. "Anyway, what's the lucky fella's name?" Virgil asked.
Patton giggled again. "Logan Brown. He's a servant at the castle." Patton turned his toes in and clasped his hands again. "He's so sweet, especially when he gets flustered. It's so cute, he goes bright pink and keeps smoothing his hair down." Patton laughed. "I bet he thinks it makes him look suave. Really, he's not fooling anyone."
Virgil laughed. If Patton thought this 'Logan' went bright pink when he was flustered, Patton should look in a mirror right now.
"Well?" Virgil asked. "What are you telling me about him for? Go find him."
"What about you?" Patton asked. "You met someone?"
Virgil nodded his head to the side. "Yeah, more or less. I'm meant to be meeting him in the garden." Virgil shooed Patton with his hands slightly. "Go on. Go find him!"
Patton laughed. "Okay, okay, I'm going." He laughed again, ducking his head, and ran into the castle.
"Good luck, Pat." Virgil thought. "And good luck Logan. He has no idea what he's getting into."
