Chapter 31
WARNING: Remus being drunk
Janus leaned his elbows on a bush and put his head in his hands as he watched Roman and Virgil.
"Aw, they're so sweet." They said. Their smile dropped. "It's sickening."
There was a crash from the other side of the garden but either the prince and Virgil didn't notice it or it was a lot further away than Janus had thought.
Janus rolled his eyes. "Mortals." He thought.
"Hey." Someone slurred from beside him. Janus rolled his eyes and simply lifted his feet off the ground, hovering in mid-air.
"Go away. I'm not interested in your mortal shit." Janus said. They looked at the person beside them and sighed. "And of course you're the Goddamn prince."
Remus blinked slowly. "You know who I am?"
"Yeah. I know everyone in this kingdom." Janus said. Remus stared at him with wide eyes and a slightly open mouth.
"Your scales are hot." He said eventually. Janus looked over at him in disgust.
"I'm not interested." They said.
Remus giggled. "C'mon, you must be a little interested? You must be a little interested in what royalty's like in bed?"
Janus rolled his eyes in disgust. He waved his wand at Remus, trying to shoo him away. "Go fuck a deer."
"Well, unless your name is 'A Deer'-"
"Go away!" Janus said, cutting him off. They rolled their eyes and disappeared with a puff of smoke.
Virgil looked over in alarm. "What was that?" He asked. "The crash?"
Roman sighed. "You know, probably my brother." He said. "He always finds some way to be as loud as possible."
Virgil looked at Roman. "What's it like living with someone that loud?" He asked.
"Honestly, not that bad." Roman conceded. "He's out in the village most of the time. And he's the only person in my family who'll tell me what the outside world is like so I kind of have to tolerate him." Roman laughed a little.
Virgil looked up at the night sky. "Honestly, what he's told you probably isn't completely right. It's like you're taking a holiday in the village, you don't actually live there." He looked down at his feet. "Living there is a lot more difficult."
Roman bit the inside of his lip. "You know," he said, "I can't work you out. You have the memories and wisdom of someone who's lived poorly all their life and you have callouses all over your hands like a servant. But you speak and use words and tone so elegantly that you might as well be a nobleman." He laughed under his breath a little. "You confuse me, forest spirit."
Virgil laughed. "I told you, I'm not-" A flash of yellow caught his eye. Janus had drawn a huge yellow 12 in the air and was motioning wildly. Virgil could guess from that that he should probably get back home.
"Uhm, I need to go." He said, slipping his hand out of Roman's.
"Right away?" Roman asked.
Virgil nodded. "Uh, yeah. Sorry."
"Wait, am I going to meet you again?" Roman asked. Virgil looked around, panicked.
"Yeah, I'll come back tomorrow. I promise." He said before giving a little jump and running away, leaving Roman confused and alone.
Did I do the Cinderella-leaving scene correct?
Bye,
Blaize
