Chapter 4
Ugh. I hate waking up in the morning. I don't feel like leaving my warm bed and going to school. Just one more day and then it's the weekend. I drag myself out of bed and get ready for school. Once I grab everything I leave my room and find my mom in the kitchen eating breakfast.
"Good morning darling, how'd you sleep?" she asked as I grab and apple from the counter
"ugh" I grunt out biting into the apple and sitting at the breakfast bar.
"That good huh" she says laughing and I smile at her.
Jamie text me that he is on the way and I tell my mom goodbye and rush out the house. Jamie is sitting on the steps of my house waiting. He gets up and we exchange good mornings and begin our walk to school.
"So Calum texted me yesterday..." I say and Jamie turning his head quickly to me
"What? I didn't even know you gave him your number!"
"That's the thing, didn't. I honestly don't know how he got it but he texted me"
"Well what did he say?" Jamie has now stopped walking and is looking at me for an explanation.
"He said sorry and told me he'd make it up to me tomorrow, well today now" I say looking at my shoes
"What does that even mean? And how is he not suspended, I thought he destroyed that kid yesterday." Now that he says that it does seem weird. He needs some kind of punishment but I'm not sure how these things work. I just shrug start walking but Jamie grabs my arm slowing my movements.
"Just...make sure your careful okay? I don't trust him" he says in a soft voice.
"I'll be careful don't worry." I smile and we start walking again.
Once he walk into school I see everyone stop their conversations turn their attention to me. I'm so use to being practically invisible so it just makes me feel uncomfortable. I grab Jamie's hand and hurry down the hall and into a corner with no one there. I just want this day to end
"Don't worry, it'll be fine I promise" Jamie says trying to ease my stress. The bell rings and I groan and we start walking.
"I'll see you 3rd period Elizabeth, alright" giving me a quick hug and we both walk our separate ways.
The day flew by pretty quickly but it surely wasn't uneventful.
You know when you walk in on someone doing something wrong even though just minutes before everything was just fine. You just seem to catch then at the wrong moments in time. That was Calum every time I saw him in the hallway.
On my way to 2nd period I caught him with a freshman boy pinned to the locker. Once he saw me he completely stopped what we was doing, letting the boy run away. He opened his mouth to speak but I had already started to walk away.
It happened again when I had asked to use the bathroom during 2nd and sawhim with his friends trip a girl as she struggles carrying boxes to the office. She felland papers fly everywhere. They all laugh hard and he sees me across the hall and automatically stops his actions and leaves. I helped the girl up and to class before going back myself.
The worst was on my way to 3rd period and he was leaning against the lockers and a girl tripped falling against him. He shoved her off and screamed 'WATCH WHERE YOURE GOING SLUT' and laughs with he's friends. When he looked at me that time he could just see the horror on my face again and was about to say sorry to the girl but she was already crying and running down the hallway. I walk past him and hear him scream 'Damn it' and slam his fist on the locker and walk away.
When I tell Jamie all this during 3rd he finds it hilarious and laughs so hard he can't breath
"See I told you Elizabeth, he's bad news. Clearly he has some serious anger issues too." I nod. I barley pay attention to the lesson today. My history teacher is so freaking boring that it feels like a lifetime. Finallythe bell rings and we both grabs our bags and head to the lunch room.
People are whispering and staring again so I just block them out. Me and Jamie get our food and decide to walk the long way to get to our table instead of cutting past the window. I just don't want to deal with Calum just yet. We sit and start making small conversation but it's interrupted by a girl coming and sitting in front of us
"Um... can I help you?" I say staring at her
"Oh yeah. Are you the girl the full blown cussed out Calum yesterday? Some people are saying that you two are dating but I was like 'No way'! And they were all like 'Yes way!' like how could he even date you I mean no offence but you kind of look like a sack of potatoes to me but-"Jamie coughs, stopping her word vomit. I mean she didn't breathe once the whole time speaking.
"Sorry,my friends say I talk a lot but I take that as a compliment, you know. it's a great quality, guys like that stuff right?"she says nodding to Jamie then continuing on.
"I say it's a great cause being quite it so boring and who wants to deal with that right?" she says smiling and looks and me again waiting for me to answer her questions.
"What's your name again?" Jamie askes before I answer.
"Oh it's Bethany" she says with a smile.
"To answer your question, yes I'm the girl that told him off and no I'm not dating him" I finally says and I can tell she has more questions
"So why did you do it then?" I think for a second and I'm about to answer but someone else come to the table
"Beth how about to breath between your sentence for a change." He says laughing. I've seen him around school a lot. I just don't know his name. he sits down at the table and his hazel eyes glimmer and he smiles at me and Jamie.
"Hey I'm Ashton. Sorry about her she doesn't know when to shut up sometimes. So you're the girl that cussed out Calum. That was by far the best thing I've seen all year" he says with a laugh andputs his hand up to give me a high five. I slowly raise my hand and he slams his onto mine with a smile.
"Um thanks I guess" I say pulling my hand back.
"Well you're a legend in my book. One day I want to here the whole story." He says grabbing Bethany and stands up to leave.
"See you guys later then" Beth says and they both walk off.
"What the heck is happening!" Jamie says with a laugh. The bell rings and I shrug and rush out. Once we are a safe distance from her, Jamie bursts into laughter and I can't help but join him.
"It's like she could go on for hours my god!" He says and I laugh along with him.
"They just walk up and sit. I didn't get a word in!"he says laughing. We joke around until we go to our separate classes. I got so distracted by laughing that I had forgotten Calum was in my next period. I walk in and he's already sitting at the desk waiting for me to sit next to him. I slowly walk over and take my seat and try to act like I'm distracted.
"Hi Elizabeth." He whispers to me and whisper a small hi back.
"D-did you get my text yesterday?" I had forgot about that completely. It seems so ironic now seeing all the crap he's done today. I just nod and focus on my notebook.
"Do you have anything to say? Or are you just going to nod the whole time" I hear the annoyance in his voice and I really pissed me off. How dare he have the nerve to get upset with me! I flip my head up and turn towards him.
"Yes Calum I got your text. I have nothing to say because of it as well. You trying to 'make it up to me' has failed seeing you just want to scream at anything that moves" I raise my voice a little to get my point across. His eyes soften a little and he seems a little hurt by what I say.
"I actually had this whole thing planned to show you... Try and prove you wrong. Today just wasn't my day" he says softly avoiding looking me in the eye. I feel a little bad lashing out at him but I still know what type of person he truly.
"What did you have planned?" I ask quietly and I see him a smile a little keep his head down.
"I was going to give you this grand apology and ask your forgiveness and how you'll change your mind about me..." the thought of that happening makes my heart flutter. Calum never apologizes to anyone. I want to believe him and give him a second chance but I'm finding it hard to try
"Why did you do those things to those kids earlier?" I ask, maybe If I understand and figure him out a little bit.
"I was just fun I guess." He says quietly playing with his sleeve. Fun? How was traumatizing kids funny? I'm tired of yelling and him. I don't have the energy to fight. We had been talking on and off the entire class so it was about time to leave. I get my things together.
"You know what Calum. I'm going to let you just live your life. You don't see anything wrong with what you did so it just proves we are just too different. I don't know what you want from me honestly. Do you like me or something? Or are you just bored? I don't have time to deal with your drama again. So I'm going to make this easy. You live your life and I'll live mine. Alright?" as if perfectly timed the bell rings and I leave him there sitting.
Calum and I just don't mix well. Any relations with him are just bad news so it's best to just leave him before it continues.
Do you ever write something and just feel bad for the character because I do!
I just want to say thank you guys so much for reading my story. It makes me so happy when I see people commenting and voting. You all are amazing
So what did you think about this chapter. Calum really screwed up. how's he gonna fix it?
I'll update hopefully soon
Until next time
-Rachel
