The Reunion

Spectre

We had stumbled into a clearing, knocking down several trees in the process. Several arrows flew past me. I barely dodged. "What, pal? You think I'm gonna stand there and take it?" I asked. "My stats are pretty low for that, ya know."

"Wow..." She breathed. "Not bad. Your attack stat's pretty good. Your speed's through the roof! But... I wonder if you can keep up with this?!" She charged! We banged our weapons together in a mad frenzy.

"Only if you can keep up with this!" I smirked and attacked. "Die!" Several dagger attacks flew at my opponent. She deflected them back at me. I jumped out of the way. "Heh. Clever girl."

"I'm not known for my social prowess, you know." I saw her toss her bow up and down in her hand impatiently.

"Yeah. I wasn't either. I'm more of a mind over matter guy."

"Me too!"

"We've covered this!" I yelled.

"Oh, right, sorry!"

"Hey!" I fell as another attack sailed over me. "How is that even fair?!" Another attack knocked my dagger to the ground. I sighed and looked at my opponent. "Look. I really hate to fight someone who isn't as strong as me. It makes me feel bad. So, pal. Buddy. This is your chance. I'm sparing you. Fair and square."

She seemed to ponder this before pulling the drawstring on her bow and firing another arrow at me. I pulled up a magic shield. "Not a chance, Comedian." She smiled.

"Wow, pal. You must really have a death wish. And I'm weapon-less. Well, I hate to do this, but, then again, you must really hate me huh? You must really want me angry at myself for killing you. Maybe I'll suffer yet another relapse." I winked. "Thanks pal. Here we go!" As much as I hate using it, I only had my magic left. I threw everything I had at her. Time manipulation, moon blasts, barrage attacks, you name it. I tried it. Was it fair? No. Was it fun? No. Especially since she seemed to be much weaker than I. I admired her for fighting, but I knew eventually, it would be game over for her. Eventually, she would get too tired. And she did. I grabbed her by the neck and threw against a nearby tree. I proceeded to grab my dagger, and held it to her neck as I had her cornered against a large tree.

The atmosphere was calm. There was no breeze. The moon couldn't move. Her soul was trapped in a shocked glow. I and every decently powerful wizard like me could keep it like this for a long time. However, nothing lasts forever, not even when time isn't ticking. Soon, the world would return to the chaotic state we never overcome, just get used to. I took a deep breath and got ready for the killing strike, just ready to get it over with.

"Any last words?" I asked. A moment of silence passed before she sighed.

"Jesus Christ, Merlin. Didn't you say you were as cool as ice back in my room at the palace? Your fighting style is making me sweat!"

I stopped. "Lilith..."

"In the flesh." I set her down and wrapped my arms around her. She threw her arms around my neck and pulled me into a hug. I just wanted to be close to her. Never let her go. She smelled like smoke from the burning trees behind us. "Wow... Uh... You..." She laughed. "You look and smell like death. I mean, I'm sure I don't look or smell that great either, but..."

"I'm so glad you're okay." I smiled. "Never do that again. Please. I'm tired of almost killing people I care about."

I felt sincerity creep into her tone. "I don't plan on dying, Merlin."

"For God's sake..." I laughed in relief. I was glad she wasn't too upset with me for showing her literally no mercy. "I almost killed you and you still don't know my name, Princess?"

"I do. Spectre."

We became aware of cheering from the sidelines. Dragonfly and Mephiles were in the bushes, both rather low on health, cheering for us. We made our way to Dawn's house to get healed up. On the way, Lilith held my hand and smiled.
