The Return

Dragonfly

I sat outside Spectre's bedroom door. He never stopped crying. I felt bad, but I learned something. He killed someone he didn't want to. Maybe even cared for. Possibly even the person who gave his soul the orange for bravery on the tips. I gazed out the window, waiting for him to calm down, when I saw two figures climbing out of the ravine that leads to the river. I got up and knocked on the door. "Spectre, look towards the river. Do you see two people there, or am I just going crazy?"

It took a long time for him to respond. "Who are those people?" He asked.

"I say we investigate."

"Okay." He hesitantly responded. "But don't stand too close to me, alright? If I actually end up hurting you on accident..."

"You won't. It'll be fine, come on."

We stepped outside, only to be doused with water. "Oh my God! Who's out here?!" Spectre yelled.

"Shoot! Run!" Voices echoed into the forest.

"After them!" He commanded. We tore off into the trees after them. I weaved and ducked under branches. "Switch into your battle vision!"

"My what?!" I yelled. "What about my pacifist run?!"

"Don't worry! It'll help you chase them instead of a random animal or monster!"

"I'll chase the royal blue colored soul!"

"I've got lilac! He-slash-she seems so powerful!"

"What do the colors mean?"

"Order and Curiosity. Hey, they're splitting up! You're on your own! Good luck!"

The soul disappeared suddenly. "We wont hurt you if you just step out into the moonlight where I can see you!" A battle axe was brought down upon my right shoulder. I cried out but attempted to talk to him. "Hey, cut it out! We're friends, aren't we?" He attacked again. "Guess not."

I tried again by telling him that I would help him with whatever's troubling him. This seemed to slow him down. I managed to dodge his next blow.

"You're so much weaker than I, but I have to protect her. The rest of the narrative sits on my shoulders! Out of my way!" The mysterious blue soul attacked, but I was almost there! I could feel it!

"You must be so tired and scared, you know. Trapped here in a new world. Where nobody recognizes you." He only shook his head. "I can help you."

"I need to do this alone!!" His axe came down, but I blocked it with my hammer. "Why are you being so nice to me?!"

I wrestled with it. He was way more powerful than me, but I had to keep going. "Because I'm your friend. I believe that you can be good. Everyone can, if they try!"

He yelled louder and pushed harder. Mysterious drops of water landed on my shoulder. I instantly recognized them as tears. The stranger was a giant tank, but I could feel his resolve getting weaker. "You don't really want to fight me, do you?" I asked. He shook his head and lowered the axe. "What's your name, friend?"

"My name...? It's Mephiles. Prince Mephiles of the Shadow Kingdom. I don't expect you to know me."

"But I do know you! I'm Dragonfly, remember? We met in the kingdom here on Skyrise!"

"I remember. Hey, your HP's really low. Let me fix that up for you. What were you thinking?! If you had stopped me a second later, I could've killed you!"

"Don't worry about it." I felt the warm tingle associated with getting healed. I smiled as I switched out of battle view. "Let's go find Spectre and... I'm assuming it was your sister."
