twenty-seven

Jungkook practically leaps into Seokjin's arms, eliciting a tinkling laugh from him. "Someone's excited to see me."

"Well, we barely talked for two weeks," Jungkook argues, cheeks darkening. "I missed you."

Seokjin's lips quirk up into a grin. "You're so cute." Pulling back and snorting in amusement, he adds, "I see you're wearing my sweater. Did you ever take it off during these two weeks?"

"Of course I did!"

"I bet you wore it every single day."

Jungkook shakes his head. "I didn't."

Seokjin laughs in disbelief, fingers reaching up and poking the younger's cheeks. "I don't believe that for a second."

"Anyway," Jungkook says, attempting to change the topic, "when did you get here? I thought you'd be tired from that long journey from Seoul."

"I got here around noon, actually," Seokjin informs, surprising the younger. "I wanted to surprise you."

"Oh," says Jungkook, a slow grin stretching across his face. "Cool."

"Yeah," Seokjin chirps as he throws his arm around Jungkook's shoulder. "Do you want to get something to eat?"

"Sure."

They head into a diner a little later, knees brushing as they sit next to each other at a counter. "I don't think it's particularly healthy to be having an ice cream sundae at 10:30 at night," Seokjin muses, digging his spoon into the cold treat.

"It's not 10:30 yet," Jungkook points out jokingly. "It's still 10:29."

"Oh, yeah," Seokjin sarcastically quips. "There's a huge difference between 10:29 and 10:30."

"Obviously."

Seokjin spoons more ice cream into his mouth. "It actually matters in college, though," he lectures. "You have to turn in your assignments on time. There's a huge difference between midnight and a minute later."

"I know, I know," Jungkook sighs, waving the elder off, "all my teachers last year told us. And speaking of college, it starts in two weeks."

"Two weeks?" Seokjin asks, surprised. "Already?"

"Yeah, it's going to be September soon."

"Right," Seokjin seems surprised. "I forgot. Are you nervous?" he adds.

Jungkook shrugs. "I guess. I think I'm more excited than nervous."

"I was the same," Seokjin nods in agreement. "College is insane. Make good friends."

"Okay, eomma," Jungkook mocks, making the elder swat his shoulder.

"Don't give me that attitude."

"Jeez, hyung, you are a carbon copy of my mother."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"It's not."

"I don't care."

The two continue chattering away for another half hour until they finish the ice cream. As they exit the air-conditioned diner and are greeted by a smothering of relatively humid air, Jungkook groans. "It's so hot out."

"You're so whiny."

"That sounds like something Tae would say."

"That is an insult."

A yell of laughter bursts from Jungkook's lips. "You're such a savage. You look like an angel, but you're so mean."

"I look like an angel?" Seokjin parrots, laughter bubbling up in his throat. "Am I really that handsome, Jungkookie?"

"That's n-not what I meant," Jungkook stutters, a light flush darkening his cheeks.

Seokjin beams, his arms going around the younger's shoulders as he nuzzles his forehead into Jungkook's hair. "You're so cute."

Whining, Jungkook pulls away as a bashful smile finds its way on his lips. "Hyung, stop."

"It's true, though!" Seokjin protests, clinging onto Jungkook again.

Jungkook yawns, wriggling out of the elder's grip. "I'm sleepy."

"I'll walk you home," Seokjin offers cheerfully, and Jungkook smiles at him gratefully with a tired thanks.

The pair subconsciously slows their pace as they near Jungkook's apartment, the teenager's eyes drooping shut as he walks. "I'm so sleepy."

"It isn't even 11 yet," Seokjin laughs. "You used to be able to stay up until well past midnight, what happened?"

Jungkook shrugs. "I don't know, I'm exhausted today."

As they come to a stop in front of the apartment building, Seokjin pats the younger's shoulder and begins to leave, halting when Jungkook calls out his name. "Hm?" he hums, glancing back at the boy.

Jungkook doesn't know what unseen force has taken over him as he stares at the elder, an overwhelming urge to kiss Seokjin compelling him to lean forward—

And he freezes.

Seokjin recoils slightly, a mixture of surprise and alarm expressed on his features. "Were you going to..." His frown deepens. "...kiss me?"

"N-No," Jungkook laughs, praying that Seokjin will believe his blatant lie and extremely forced giggle. "I just— There's an eyelash on your face." Heart thumping loudly in his ribcage, he reaches up and brushes off an imaginary lash, leaning back. "There."

Seokjin blinks, clearly not believing the younger. "Right. I'll be going now. See you later."

"Yeah, bye."

Jungkook rushes into his apartment, rushing to his room and collapsing onto his bed as a terrible feeling of regret burns his insides.

He has completely and utterly fucked up.
