forty-two
Jungkook and Seojun's hands are clasped together as they walk side by side, making their way to Seojun's aunt's bakery.
"It's so cold," Seojun complains, teeth chattering. She smiles at Jungkook. "Good thing you're here to keep me warm."
A dark blush blooms on the boy's cheeks as he groans and covers his face with his free hand. "Oh my god, noona, that was so cheesy."
Seojun laughs, merely pressing a soft kiss to Jungkook's steadily warming cheeks. "You're so cute."
"And you're annoying," giggles Jungkook, cutely scrunching up his nose as Seojun musses his dark locks.
They open the door to the shop, and a man at the counter turns at the sound of the tinkling bell. At the sight of the male's face, Jungkook, on some odd instinct, hastily pulls his hand out of Seojun's grip, and upon noticing the curious look his girlfriend gives him, he links their arms together and stuffs his hand into his pocket.
"Hi, hyung!"
Seokjin smiles amiably at the couple, first greeting Jungkook with a cheerful hey before turning to Seojun and smiling politely. "You guys like this place, too?"
"T- This is noona's aunt's bakery," Jungkook stammers, glancing at said female, feeling antsy. "She works here."
"Oh," Seokjin says, eyes crinkling into crescents as he beams and turns to Seojun. "So you like baking?"
The pompom on Seojun's hat bounces with the enthusiastic nodding of her head. "Yeah, of course!"
Seokjin's face lights up, and the two are suddenly launching themselves into a deep conversation about baking, cooking, and the like. Jungkook is getting more jittery by the second. He is extremely grateful when the lanky boy at the counter hesitantly interrupts their conversation, a small styrofoam box still in his hands.
"Right, my pastries," Seokjin laughs, taking the container.
Seojun presses a chaste kiss to Jungkook's chapped lips, making the boy flush a dark red as he becomes increasingly aware of Seokjin's presence. "See you when my shift's over, yeah?" she asks, her fingers lightly resting on the side of Jungkook's face.
Jungkook moves his head up and down in an affirmative nod, willing himself to keep staring Seojun in the eyes— Seokjin is being distracting. "See you later, noona."
Seojun pats Jungkook's cheek with a giggle and heads behind the counter. "See you, Jungkookie!"
"Bye!" Jungkook and Seokjin exit the bakery together, and the elder throws an arm around his friend as they walk along the sidewalk, boots crunching on the iced-over dead leaves strewn on the ground by the harsh winter breeze. Jungkook coughs. "You know," he begins, leaning into the elder once he knows he's caught his attention, "you made me super nervous in there." He stares at Seokjin's face and continues, "Normally I'm pretty, uh— pretty relaxed with Seojun noona, but I felt like you were judging us."
Seokjin scoffs. "Why would I be judging you? You guys make each other happy; it's a good relationship."
Jungkook smiles brightly at that, pulling his scarf up over his face to cover his reddening cheeks. "Do you think noona and I will be together for a long time?"
"Maybe," Seokjin says passively, with a lazy shrug. "I can't predict the future."
"Oh, come on," Jungkook snorts jokingly, "can't you at least pretend like you're happy for us?"
"I am happy for you," Seokjin says indignantly, turning his head to face Jungkook with narrowed eyes. "Who said I wasn't?"
Jungkook giggles, reaching up and latching onto Seokjin's left forearm, the one that is draped around his shoulder. "I'm just kidding, hyung. Jeez."
"You'd better not be this mean to me tomorrow," Seokjin says as he pulls Jungkook's hat over his eyes.
"I'm not being mean," argues the teenager, fixing the placement of his hat. "And what's tomorrow?"
Seokjin shoots Jungkook a glance before looking straight ahead of him. "My birthday."
Jungkook gasps loudly, his hands sliding from Seokjin's arm to his hand, grasping it tightly. "Tomorrow's your birthday? Why didn't tell me?"
"I'm telling you now, aren't I?" Seokjin laughs. "Why are you so excited about it?"
"I'm... not totally sure," Jungkook admits, laughing at himself. "But you're gonna be how old? Twenty four?"
Seokjin nods. "Yeah. I'm getting old."
"You're not that old—"
"I'm five years older than you, Jungkookie," Seokjin points out. "I'm pretty old."
"Well," Jungkook blinks a few times, "when you say it like that, you sound old— But you're still pretty young. If you were more than five years older than me, I don't think we'd be friends." He smiles brightly at the elder male and tugs on his hand playfully.
Seokjin stares at their interlaced fingers, brows knitting together. "Didn't you say we should stop holding hands because you're dating Seojun?"
"Oh," Jungkook says, surprised. "Right." Dropping his hand from Seokjin's, he pulls the elder's arm off his shoulder and chooses to link their arms together. "There, now we're both warm."
Seokjin shakes his head. "You're so cute."
For a split second, Jungkook considers asking Seokjin to stop calling him cute because Seojun does. But as quick as the thought comes into his head, he dismisses it. Seokjin has been calling him cute for months. If anything, he should tell Seojun to stop.
But that's not gonna happen, she's my girlfriend.
Jungkook is snapped out of his thoughts when he hears Seokjin's voice and finds him staring curiously. "What?"
"What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing really."
Seokjin looks skeptical. "Didn't seem like nothing. You— Shit!"
Jungkook gasps audibly, only to have the wind knocked out of him as the two fall on the icy pavement. He hisses out a curse, trying to get up and prevent himself from slipping again.
It takes Seokjin a few extra seconds to get up, staring at the partially crumpled box in his hand and clutching the back of his head with his other hand with a frown across his lips. Turning to the teenager, he mutters, "Watch your language."
"You cursed, too!" Jungkook cries, rubbing his slightly sore lower back. "You said shit!"
Seokjin looks startled. "I did?"
"Yeah!"
"Really?"
"Yes!" Jungkook laughs. "Is Yoongi hyung rubbing off on you?"
"No," Seokjin deadpans, "I think you are. I spend way more time with you than anyone else."
Jungkook lips part in surprise. "Wait, really?"
"Yeah."
"Oh." Jungkook feels his cheeks darkening. "I— Wow— Real—"
"Yes, really," the older male snickers. "How many times do I have to tell you?"
"I didn't know you spent the most time with me," Jungkook says, a grin spreading across his lips. "I'm honored."
"Well, it's not like a have any other choice," chuckles Seokjin. "You're ridiculously clingy." Noticing the boy's crestfallen expression, he hastily says, "I was joking, joking! You're not clingy, don't worry."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure," Seokjin assures. "And even if you are clingy, I don't mind."
Jungkook smiles teasingly. "Wow, hyung, you like me that much?"
Seokjin rolls his eyes, but can't stop the grin that creeps onto his face. "You wish."
