Where was Max?

That question circled your mind for the whole night. He hasn't come home since he went to work this morning and you were very worried.

He's been acting weird as well. After being together for more than a year, all the kisses, gifts, hugs, and dates kind of just

disappeared.

You picked up your phone calling Ross for some help.

"Hello?

"Ross? Do you know where Max is?"

"Uhm, I think he told me he went to the bar. The one on Crossroad's Place."

The bar? Max rarely drinks.

"Why?" You asked more in a interrogative tone.

"I don't know, he said he needed to think or something."

"Okay, thanks Ross." You hung up the phone, grabbing your jacket and keys. You got into your car, driving as quickly (but safely) as you can to the bar, before anything happens.

Entering the building, someone was playing the guitar and singing, entertaining the audience. You got onto your tippy toes to look for a red headed man. Fortunately it only took you 2 minutes.

"Max." You called his name putting a hand on his shoulder. He turned your direction, his eyes more red than usual.

"Oh, it's you." He said in a dull voice. He held a glass of some golden alcohol, taking a short swig.

"Yeah it me. Max we gotta go home." You said taking his forearm. He didn't budge. Max just kept drinking his cup.

"I don't want to." He said shortly. His tone was so boring. There was no character at all.

"Max c'mon. And I have to talk to you about something." You urged. Max groaned putting down his glass and leaving a 2 dollar tip on the counter.

He got up, but you weren't holding him. It was like you weren't even there.

Max opened the door and you followed.

"Max look at me." You said trying to be calm. Obviously he was a little less than drunk but more than sober.

Max ignored you and that got on your nerves. You skipped your way next to Max's side.

"Max." You said firmly. He finally stopped looking at you. It was past dusk and Max's hair was darker, his eyes darker.

"What, (Y/N)? What could be so important?"

"Are you serious? You're acting so fucking weird and you're not telling me!!" Your voice rose to a level. Max only looked at you sharply.

"Are you hiding something?" You asked a bit more calm. Max shifted his eyes away from you, his body going limp.

"(Y/N)," he began. Your heart started beating so fast. "I want to break up with you."

You looked into Max's eyes, trying to see if he was lying.

He wasn't.

"W-what?! W-why?? Did I do something?" You questioned, your eyes starting to burn. Max shook his head. His eyes were becoming glossy by the second.

"N-no. I just.."

You held your breath.

"I just don't love you anymore."

Max looked at you sincerely. Your sadness turned into rage.

"For how long?" Your voice almost cracked. Your hands turned into fists to hold in the pressure.

"(Y/N), please don't ask that." Max begged stepping closer to you with a reached out hand. You took a step back.

"Don't touch me." You commanded as tears began to roll down your cheeks. "Since when did you stop loving me?"

"4 months ago." Max whispered looking at the ground.

You let out a small sob also looking down. Your fists loosened and now your were weak.

"So those past months meant nothing to you?!" Your anger rushed through.

"All the 'good mornings' 'good nights' or simple 'I love you's' meant nothing?!?!"

Max's lower lip quivered. He realized he hurt you. And that was the last thing he wanted. But he did it anyways...

"It did mean something, (Y/N)." He said looking at your face. You wiped your cheek sniffling.

"No it didn't. Don't lie to me. Not after those 4 months..." You trailed turning your body to go to your car.

Max's heart dropped. He didn't want it to be this way.

You started running to the parking lot. You got out your keys and unlocked your door.

"(Y/N) NO!!" You heard while opening the door.

"(Y/N)!! WAIT!!" Max's voice became distant as you shut the door. You started the engine and skid the car out onto the streets leaving Max alone in the dark.

Now more sober, Max got mad at himself. He pulled at his hair and screamed at himself.

He hated himself.

*2 days later*

Max sat in his once shared apartment. You were upstairs packing your things to leave.

What's the point of living with someone if they don't love you anymore? You're just taking up their space that could be used for someone they do love.

You carried your duffle bag and a large suitcase down the stairs by yourself. Max was on the couch staring at the blank TV.

You were putting your shoes on when Max turned around to look at you. Your hair was messy and your clothes were simple.

Max remembered when you two were happy. He remembers how you'd cook him breakfast sometimes, or vice versa. He remembers your movie nights, or when both of you would be so distracted when cleaning the house.

He remembers your smile, your laugh, whenever you'd cry, your hugs, whenever you'd playfully hit him...

But he'll never forget this moment. This moment of when you're leaving him. He'll never forget the day he actually shattered you. He'll never forget the looks you shot at him, or the way you spoke to him. He thought he deserved it.

"Why are you leaving? Do you have a place to stay?" Max's voice broke through. You looked up at him disgusted.

"I'm going back with my parents. And I'm leaving because you don't love me anymore, apparently."

You opened the door and brought your bags with you. You looked at Max one more time. You'll miss the lovable ginger you loved. Now he was a monster to you; he was someone who lied.

You sighed about to close the door, the door that will end it all.

"After what happened the other day, I don't think I love you either."

The door closed.
