Apple picking

You and Red needed time alone for a day. So you both decided on going apple picking in an orchard upstate. It was a three hour drive, but it was worth it.

Red was driving, his hand holding yours rested on the middle console of the car. He turned into the entrance led by employees and rode up the mountain into the Red Delicious section.

Red found a spot where there was a big tree to give some shade. You got out of the car and popped open the trunk, revealing a picnic blanket, a picnic basket, bags for the apples, and the crate of utensils.

Red went to the trunk and pulled out the blanket, sprawling it out under the tree. You carried the basket and placed it on the ground next to the blanket.

Red then took the crate of utensils and placed it next to the basket. You took a breather and sat on the blanket, looking up into sky, the apple tree in your view.

Red then laid next to you, watching you look up at the clouds.

"You're staring at me again." You said not even looking at your boyfriend, already knowing what he's doing.

"I can't help it! I like to look at pretty things!!" He protested with a cheeky grin. You rolled your eyes laying down as well.

"This is great. We can just relax, you and me." Red stated moving his hands under his head. You nodded taking a sigh.

Looking around, you saw that the trees had a lot of branches. It brought memories back, climbing trees and just sitting there enjoying nature. You decided to bring back those good times.

Walking across to the tree, you went under its leaves to the trunk. You placed your foot in a hole and your hand went up to grip on a higher branch. Pushing yourself, you put your free foot on another thick branch. You looked up, your head poking out from the top of the leaves. Red wasn't looking, but maybe he'll look when you go higher.

You repeated your steps and made it to the last branch on the top. Poking your head out, you could see the whole orchard.

"Red!!!" You called out to the ginger down below. You saw his head perk up, looking left and right for you. You giggled, him looking worried.

"Up here!!" You called again waiting for Red to look in your general direction. Once he did, you waved your arms to catch his attention. You were standing on a sturdy branch, your back rested on the trunk that made the tip of the tree.

Red smiled, standing up from the blanket.

"How did you get up there?!" He asked walking closer to the tree. "A bird took me up by the hands and placed me up here." You teased while crossing your arms.

"Oh yeah? Where is that bird, I wanna come there with you!!" Red mimicked your stance. You rolled your eyes leaning over a little.

"There's no room!!" You shrugged with a smirk. Red shook his head chuckling.

"How are you gonna get down?" He asked below you. You looked around for a lower branch, making a mental staircase to climb back down.

"Like this." You replied, letting your one foot closest to the branch go down.

"(Y/N), I don't think that branch–"

You felt the branch snap halfway. Your heart jumped at the sudden movement.

"Okay, okay," You said quickly making sure your other foot swung to the other branch.

But your weight was too much for the branch, and in another second, your foot wasn't on something.

"(Y/N)!!" You heard Red's voice. You looked above the leaves and he wasn't where he was before.

Your grip on the top branch slipped, and your body went down the tree.

You screamed, waiting for the impact of the ground.

You knew you made it down when you hit something. But that something felt softer than grass. Opening your eyes, you looked up seeing Red under you.

You gasped, propping yourself up with your hands that were at his side.

"Red!! Oh my god I'm so sorry!!" Your voice panicked. Red groaned, arching his back a little.

"At least I caught you." He said without breath. Red just laid on the ground trying to catch his breath. You probably knocked the wind out of him.

"Can you breath? Are you okay??" You questioned moving up his body so your face was over his. He gave a small nod, his eyes still closed.

You gave a sigh of relief.

"Thanks for breaking my fall. Sorry I landed on you full body." You said looking down at Red's face, looking at his freckles.

Red didn't move, so you stole the opportunity.

You leaned down and softly kissed Red's lip. You just gave a peck, waiting for Red to open his eyes.

Red's eyes shot open at you with shock. You giggled at his reaction.

"What was that for?!" He questioned now sitting up. You got off Red sitting in front of you.

"For catching me." You stated with a smirk. Red raised an eyebrow.

"For catching you and saving your life, I think I deserve more than just that." Red teased. You rolled your eyes, grabbing onto Red's shoulder and leaning in again.

I was inspired when I went apple picking over the weekend, so that's how I got the pictures.
