Three- Angelina

She waved and drove off, leaving me to find the front office and get my class schedule and hopefully a map of the school. A knot of nerves formed in my stomach, but I pushed them away and began my "mission".

I walked into the front office to see a smiling lady and a red-headed boy sitting behind the counter.

"Hi! My name's Angelina Charles. I'm new here and I was hoping to get a class schedule and a map of the school," I said to the lady.

"Of course dearie! Here's your schedule!" she said with an all too cheery expression, and handed me my schedule. "And instead of a map, we have a tour guide for you!"

"Oh?"

"Hey," the red-headed boy said.

I gave a small smile in return.

"I'm Connor Wilde," the boy said and walked around the counter to stand in front of me.

"Nice to meet you," I said.

"Pleasure's mine," he said, flashing a smile. "Now come on. Let's get this tour started."

I nodded, gave a "thank you" to the office lady, and followed Connor out of the office building.

"So... Angelina right?" Connor asked.

"Yep. That's me," I replied.

"So, Angelina, what made you move here?" Connor asked me as we walked.

I shrugged, planning on giving a vague answer. I didn't want to have to explain the real reason that we left.

"Don't really know. I guess my mom just wanted a fresh start."

Connor nodded as if he knew all about fresh starts.

"You like it here at all?" Connor continued with his question asking.

"California isn't bad. Although I do miss New Jersey. I've lived there all my life. Well... Until now that is," I told him.

He nodded but didn't ask any more questions. A few seconds later we came to a stop in front of one of the classrooms.

"Here we are! Room 22. This is your first-period elective classroom," Connor gestured to the classroom like Vanna White in Wheel of Fortune.

"Connor?" I asked glancing down at my schedule to see that this was, in fact, my first class.

"Yes?" he replied, dropping his arms.

"How did you know that this was my first class?" I asked.

"Ms. Foxworth, that lady in the office, let me see your schedule. I wanted to know what classrooms I'd be showing to you. And I wanted to compare our schedules," he said with a shrug.

I nodded and created a map in my mind.

"Alright. First-period elective class, Room 22, right here," I mumbled.

Connor smiled and we were off to the next classroom.

"The rest of your classes are here in the hallway. Except for P.E." Connor stated.

We stopped again at another classroom.

"Second-period geography. That one right across the hall is third-period history," Connor said and we started walking again. "This one is fourth-period science and your fifth-period language arts is in the same room as your history class. Seventh-period math is here in the same class as science."

I nodded along and continued to follow Connor as he lead me out of the hallway and across the campus.

"Sixth period P.E. Always in the bigger gym unless the teacher says that you're going out onto the football field. The smaller gym is used for school functions and at lunchtime."

Again, I nodded but didn't say anything. I was mapping everything out in my mind, committing it to memory.

"Is that it?" I asked.

"Well... There are bathrooms in the locker rooms and another set of bathrooms back behind the Sophomore Hall where most of your classes are. Oh! And over there," Connor said pointing. "is the library. There's a bathroom over there."

"Okay. Okay. Got it."

Connor smiled. "It's a lot, I know. If you ever need help, come find me. We have most of the same classes and I'd be happy to help."

I smiled at Connor. "Thanks."

"You're welcome. Now, you better get to your first class. The teachers know that you're going to be a bit late, but you don't want to keep them waiting too long," Connor told me.

"Well, see you around then," I said quietly and turned away from him and headed back towards where my first class had been.

I walked back to the class and tried my best to quietly slip inside.

"Well hello there! You must be the new student!" the teacher screeched.

I nodded slowly as the entire class turned to stare at me.

"I'm Angelina..." I murmured, knowing that that was what the teacher most likely wanted.

"Welcome to art class, Angelina!" the teacher yelled again. "Take a seat anywhere that's empty!"

I already don't like this teacher...  I thought.
