Skylark
Through billowing smoke that's
Scorched the sky,
On broad wings we gracefully fly.
To watch over the fractured earth,
Pocked and scarred,
For miles that stretch, now battle marred.
And we'll call aloud
With our voices of spring,
Listen hard and you'll hear us sing
Our lasting lament to those that lie
In the war torn fields stretched out below,
Where dwell thousands of memories as the poppies grow.
