Ch6 The journey begins

(Flameslinger's point of view)

The smoke cleared, revealing piles of ruble and bricks where sections of the academy once stood. Cadets who either chose a bad place to take cover, or weren't even lucky enough to find any were badly injured. Kaos had done it, a smoldering crater was all that remained of the core, and it was later discovered, that Eon, was the only casualty. Everyone began to lose hope, well, almost everyone. Flameslinger was successful in getting him and his friends to safe cover, he had seen destruction before, but he knew anything could be rebuilt.

Spyro shared his attitude, and gathered up the few other students who weren't injured and tried to rise their spirits. "Come on everyone!", Spyro said, "Eon wouldn't want us to give up like this!" "You purple idiot!" Said Hex, "without Eon or the core, we have no chance against the corruption!" "We may as well just accept that evil has won this time", said Food fight. The 5 other cadets walked away, leaving Flameslinger and his friends alone. "And they call themselves Skylanders!", Huffed Spyro, he was starting to get pissed, over the years, he had been going to Eon's lectures and classes a lot lately, and after joining him, he could see why Spyro had begun to mature. Spyro had looked up to Eon even more than most students already had. Eon was mainly the academy's headmaster, and held optional classes each week.

"Maybe, their right though," said Cynder meekly, after all that time at the academy, she was still very shy, "what if we won't be able to do anything?" "Never tell me there's nothing we can do!" Said Stealth elf, she was very stubborn, "if Kaos wants to win, he'll have to fight us, and I know I won't go out without a fight!"

No sooner had she finished her statement, they heard a familiar cry for help coming from a pile of rubble nearby. "Hugo?!", Yelled Flameslinger, as he ran to the source of the sound, his friends trying to keep up with him. The cries for help were coming from a pile of rubble and bricks covering a cellar door. One by one Flameslinger, Spyro, Stealth elf, and Cynder began to quickly lift rocks and bricks off of the covered entrance. When they finally opened the door, they all face palmed at the fact that the blocked door wasn't the reason he was screaming, a pair of sheep had snuck into the cellar with him, and these sheep just loved to huddle up to him. However, it was quite hilarious watching him run back and forth across the room trying to get away from a couple of puffballs.

"Hugo how many times do I have to tell you that sheep won't hurt you?" Asked Flameslinger. "You think that they're cute and innocent", Hugo said, "but I swear that sheep are killing machines in disguise!"
"What ever," said Flameslinger, as he led the sheep away using a tall patch of surviving grass he found. "Is everyone alright?" Asked Hugo, "I heard an explosion where's Master Eon?" Flameslinger looked at his friends and back at Hugo. "He's....", Flameslinger didn't know how to tell him, Hugo was Eon's assistant, and Hugo looked to Eon as a father. "He's in a better place..." Said Cynder reluctantly, hanging her head low as if it was her fault. Hugo was a little oblivious at first, but as it began to process in his head a look of terror broke onto his face, followed by some tears and him suddenly fainting. "Oh, crap..." Said Spyro.

(5 hours later)
Spyro, Flameslinger, and the others had carried Hugo and put him on a cot. (It was the closest thing to a bed they could find.) Hugo woke up with a slight start, but almost looked as though he was enlightened. "Are you OK?" Asked Stealth elf. Instead of answering her question Hugo jumped off of the cot and rushed straight towards the cellar and began to dig through a small box until he found rolled up paper. "Yes! It's here! Just as Eon said it was!" "What in the name of Skylands are you talking about?" Said Spyro, everyone was quite surprised that Hugo was suddenly so excited. "While I was out Eon came to me in a dream and told me where to find the blueprint for the ancient core, written by the ancient beings long ago," Hugo began, "I'm not sure if I'm going crazy, but crazy or not, we can save Skylands with this!" "But what about the machine parts, and the eternal sources?" Asked Spyro, "weren't they all destroyed?" "That's the beauty of the core", said Hugo, most of the machinery is still here within the magic of this island, and everything else was made indestructible", Hugo explained, "as for the eternal sources, they can never be destroyed, in fact, destroying the core just scattered them to their original locations." "If this is true, then there is hope after all!" Spyro couldn't contain his excitement. "The blueprint is written in the original ancient language, but I'm actually able to translate it," said Hugo, "while I find out where the first eternal source is, you try to find a pilot willing to help get us around." "You mean just the four of us?" Asked Cynder. "Yes," said Hugo, before I woke from my dream, Eon explained that everyone has lost hope and left, except for the four of you!" Hugo said, "according to Eon, The four of you are the only ones who could save us." The group looked at eachother, realizing that Hugo was right. "Quite coincidentally," said Hugo, "a town of pilots called Wind valley isn't too far from here, see if you can find a pilot willing to help our cause." The four friends nodded in agreement and made their way out of the cellar and into the night, headed west towards Wind valley.
