Ch 28 Frozen in time
(Stealth elf's point of view)
Thanks to the new air-conditioning unit and shower Sprocket had installed on the ship, the four cadets returned refreshed as ever. Flameslinger and Stealth elf jumped off the ship and ran ahead of the others, Flameslinger carrying the fire source. "Fire, a force of destruction," began Eon, "yet also a powerful source of creation! It all depends on the will of the user, and with the ability to burn away all that is evil, it's an important part of the core." The fire source absorbed into the crucible, setting a brilliant blaze that lit the lantern above it, causing the light beam of the core to pulse with orange energy.
"Now I'm afraid that this next part may be somewhat difficult," said Hugo as he walked up to the group, "me and Sprocket have looked over all of the documents we have, and the last source we need is the Magic source." "So what's the problem?" Questioned Stealth elf. "In order for the other elements you've found to bind with the Magic, the core needs to be oiled with something called quick silver," explained Hugo, "but that's all we know! We've got nothing else when it comes to finding where this stuff is, and I'm not getting anything on the telescope!" Suddenly, Gurglefin ran up from the beach to talk to them. "We were all swimming down there, when uncle Snagglescale hit his head on something while diving. He's okay, but we don't know what he hit, we pulled it up on shore, and I thought you'd all want to come have a look at it!"
Everyone rushed down the stone staircase leading to the beach to come see what Gurglefin was talking about. When they got there, all the gillmen had gathered around what looked like some kind of metal pod with a foggy glass window built into it. Using a cloth, Sprocket carefully wiped at the window and gasped, "there's someone in this thing!" The person looked like an elf, he was about their age, or so it seemed, and his eyes were underneath some weird dark goggles.
It took a while, but Sprocket was finally able to hack the strange contraption. "I've got to say, even though it looks hundreds of years old, this is some impressive tech! I've never seen anything like this," said Sprocket as she fiddled around with the wiring of the pod. The door slowly opened and Sprocket, Stealth elf and Flameslinger approached the elf cautiously. They all gasped again, the elf inside had a robotic arm, and two robotic legs.
The elf suddenly woke up, and stumbled out of the pod, without saying a word or paying any mind to the group of gillmen, elves, and Dragons looking at him as he typed a few buttons on his robot arm. "Scanning area." The machine said, and it made this strange noise as it analyzed the surrounding area. "Location unrecognized." The machine voice said again. "This could be problem," the elf mumbled to himself, he then took notice of a certain goldling staring at his arm. After realizing he was surrounded, he quickly turned and aimed his arm at them and a razor sharp saw blade was aimed towards the group, Sprocket literally paid the danger no mind. "Wow...." Was all she said as everyone else ducked for cover. Seeing that no one here was a threat, he put his blade away and apologized.
"Who are you?" asked Flameslinger as he cautiously walked up to the stranger. "Answer me first, who are you?" He replied, "Where am I?" "You're at Skylanders academy, or at least what's left of it," said Flameslinger. "What's that, and why haven't I seen any Arkeyans yet?" The confused elf asked. "The Arkeyan empire fell centuries ago, if that pod you came out of is Arkeyan tech, then you may have been frozen in time," explained Hugo as he walked up to the stranger. "My name is Hugo, and they are some of the Skylanders, a group who protects all of Skylands," he said pointing to Flameslinger, Stealth elf, Spyro and Cynder. "Tell me," said Hugo, "did anyone in the Arkeyan empire know about a machine called the Ancient core?" "Of course! It's the oldest and most important machine in all of Skylands! The Arkeyans took it upon themselves to supply the core with Quick silver," the elf answered. "Perfect! Do you know where we can find some? The core was destroyed in a battle, and we've almost rebuilt it, but we desperately need quick silver, all of Skylands is depending on it!" "If the core is really here, than the closest quick silver vault I can remember is in that direction," he said pointing North, "if you have a ship, I could guide you." "Of course! Thank you mister...." Hugo started. "Razor, just call me Razor," said the elf.
On the way to the vault, Razor explained that he was part of a volunteer defense force created to keep the peace in Arkeyan cities. The last thing he remembered was volunteering for an experiment that involved being cryogenically frozen, anything past that being a blur.
The quick silver vault seemed to be a large temple- like building, made of both metal and stone. A large statue above the large metal door towered over them as they made their way. Sprocket had tagged along this time, sticking close to Razor as she asked questions about Arkeyan tech. The place didn't have any electricity to open the door, so Razor used a blade to cut a sizable opening in the door.
Inside was a stone pathway held up by metal pillars leading to a big vault door. "We have to move very carefully," said Razor, "any sudden movement could set off the motion detecting receptors on the defenses." "What's the worst that could happen? This stuff is centuries old!" Said Spyro as he walked in, one of his winds rubbed up against one of the robots, and all of them activated. "Spyro, if you remember anything from Jet-vac's class, it's that Arkeyans built their war machines to last!" Said Stealth elf as she glared at him. Now a whole armada of Arkeyan robots stood between them and the quick silver.
The fight started with Razor throwing one of his blades at one of the robots, slicing it's arm clean off. Spyro and Cynder rushed a big group of them and shocked and burned them before they fired a single shot. As the battle progressed, Stealth elf snuck to the vault and pulled out a bottle of Quick silver. "Flameslinger! Catch!" She tossed it to her friend like a foot ball, and Flameslinger close lined a group of bots as he ran to catch it. After taking out another group, even more robots than they could handle began appearing. They all quickly ran out and Razor picked up the section of the door he had cut, Spyro used his fire breath to weld it in place. After rushing back to the Sky Yacht, they all sighed with relief as they flew back to the academy, a bottle of quick silver in hand.
