SCENE J

EXT. PARK NEAR FROZEN YOGURT TRUCK – LATER

Janice runs to a stop and jogs in place, still full of energy. Skye slowly catches up with her.

SKYE

Maybe I should have taken you up on those morning jogs. I'm feeling a little rusty. And light headed.

JANICE

How about we stop for fro-yo?

SKYE

You do know that's a dessert, right? Something you've been avoiding for over a decade.

JANICE

This is a special occasion. Order whatever you want.

SKYE

(suspicious) Is this a test?

JANICE

No. It's a treat. Enjoy.

SKYE

(to the truck server) In that case, I'll have a vanilla with extra sprinkles. And a bottle of water. Just in case it doesn't stay down.

JANICE

I'll have the same. I'll just work it off later. Does that come in spoon size?

The truck server hands them their ice cream. They move over to a bench. Janice painfully eyes her spoonful and sticks it in her mouth. She cringes.

JANICE (CONT'D)

Mm. That is good.

She quickly washes it down with water.

SKYE

Mom, what's going on? First Logan's giving me his favorite football, then dad's making my favorite burger, and now we're sharing ice cream before dinner, which is like breaking a family law. Is this about me leaving?

JANICE

Seeing you move on with your life, we were reminded of how quickly time passes and wanted one more chance to live out the moments we won't get to share anymore. And Sarah may have come up with the idea so you'd change your mind.

SKYE

I should have known. I'm going to miss all of this stuff too, but I have to think about my future.

JANICE

I understand. I am so proud of you. No matter where you go in life, we will always be by your side.

She stands.

JANICE (CONT'D)

Race you back home. Winner gets a soy grass smoothie.

She runs off.

SKYE

I'm right behind you.

She takes her time as she eats her frozen yogurt.
