Chapter 17

M.P.V

After quickly running home to grab my art supplies and tell my parents I would be helping out, I jogged back to the amphitheater, Tikki in tow.

"Are you sure you want me to come along?" She asked me as I crossed the street.

"Of course." I replied as I stepped up onto the sidewalk. "I was hoping you could look around while I work on the blueprints, if that's okay with you."

"Sure Marinette!" Tikki smiled, as she flitted around my head. "Maybe being around the amphitheater might jog some memories."

"I hope so." I remarked, as I approached the crumbled building, which was looking a bit cleaner then when I had left.

I soon spotted Luka, who was standing and talking with Alya, who had her notepad out which she was writing vigorously on.

"Who's he?" Tikki inquired, as Luka turned and saw me. He waved at me before he held up what I assumed were the blueprints.

"That's Luka Coffaine." I answered, as I waved back. "He's Juleka's brother."

"Coffaine… Something sounds familiar about that name." Tikki frowned to herself, before she shook her head.

"Who were you talking to Marinette?" Luka questioned as I came to a stop beside him.

"Oh, uh myself." I quickly improvised, as I tried not to give away Tikki. "I talk to myself all the time. It helps me work through ideas for designs and such, so it's completely normal."

Great going Marinette, I thought to myself as I mentally face palmed. Alya gave me a weird look and opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Luka who smiled happily at me.

"Thank you for putting so much thought into this Marinette!" He spoke, joy apparent in his voice. "It means alot to me!"

I blushed at his praise, and stared down at my feet.

"Oh, you don't have to thank me." I gushed, as I kicked at the ground. "I haven't even started drawing out the new blueprints yet. How do you know if you'll even like them?"

"Of course I'll like them Marinette!" Luka reassured, as I glanced up at him. "Everything you design is amazing."

"Well I've never tried designing a building before." I confessed. "Do you think it's anything like designing a dress or coat?"

"I don't know girl," Alya cut in, "But I'm sure you'll do just fine."

"Thanks Alya." I beamed at my best friend, before I turned back to Luka.

He held out the blueprints for me to take before he gestured to a section of the stage where the rubble had been cleared away.

"I had some of the guys clear you an area for you to work in." Luka professed, as he helped me hop up onto the stage. "I hope it's big enough for you to be able to work in."

"It's perfect, thanks Luka." I replied with a smile.

He stood there awkwardly for a moment, before he cleared his throat.

"Well I better get back to work." He announced, gesturing to where people were cleaning up. "Let me know if you need anything."

"Will do." I assured him.

Luka turned and hopped back down on the stage leaving me alone with Tikki. I watched him go for a moment before I sat down and pulled out the blue prints from my purse, which I unfolded before unrolling the blueprints Luka had given me.

Immediately I spotted differences between them. For one, the spots marked on the blueprints from the secret room either were mislabeled on the copy from Luka, or missing entirely. I counted a total of 5 points mislabeled and 3 spots missing completely.

I wonder what's hidden there, I thought to myself as I pulled out a blank page from my sketchpad and began writing out measurements.

"So how long have you known Luka?" Tikki inquired, as she floated in front of me.

"Since I entered highschool." I replied, not looking up from my work. "Why do you ask?"

"Well it's just that he so clearly likes you." Tikki said, before letting out a long sigh. "I wish I knew what it was like to be in love."

"Luka? Like me? I'd know if he liked me." I flushed red in embarrassment. "Besides, we're just friends."

"If you say so." Tikki shrugged, not totally convinced. I shake my head, as I turn my thoughts away from Luka, and back to the task at hand.

As I sketch out ideas for the new amphitheater, I watch Tikki float around the stage out of the corner of my eye. Every once in a while she'll disappear through a wall and floor. When this happens I wait patiently for her to signal whether or not it's worth searching. So far no luck though. It looks as if the majority of secret spaces were used for hiding props during shows.

I sigh as Tikki emerges once again and shakes her head. I sigh and return to my work as Alya approaches.

"Did I see some sparks between you and Luka earlier?" She inquires, as she comes to sit next to me on the stage.

"Why does everyone keep saying that?!" I throw up my hands in exasperation. "We're just friends."

"Sheesh Girl," Alya puts up her hands in defense, "I was only asking."

"Sorry, I'm just a bit wound up after sitting here for so long." I sighed, as I sat back, sliding my pencil behind my ear.

"How is drawing the new blueprints going?" Alya questioned as she leaned over the current version.

"They could be going better." I admitted, as I thought of all the other ideas I had gone through.

"What do you mean? This one looks amazing!" Alya praised my work as she looked it over.

"Really?" I asked, sitting straight up. "I was worried it might be a bit much."

"It's great Marinette." Alya smiled at me. "There's just one thing. You seem to be missing the compartment on the side, here."

"Compartment?" I frowned and pulled out the blueprints, comparing them to the ones I had drawn up.

"Yeah, I always used to try to hide in it when we played hide-and-seek." Alya continued, her eyebrows furrowing as she looked over the old blueprints with me.

"That's funny." She comments after a moment. "I don't see it on here."

"You think you could take me to it?" I inquired as I stood.

Alya nodded and jumped down from the stage. I did the same, before following her around to the back of the amphitheater, where there was indeed a box.

I propped open the lid and was disappointed to find that it was empty.

"What are you guys doing?"

I looked up to find Luka had stopped working and was standing beside Alya.

"Well Marinette was just showing me her new design for the theater when we realized this wasn't marked on the new blueprints, or the old ones." Alya explained.

Luka scratched the back of his head.

"Well there's a chance this could have been added after the blueprints were made." He theorized after a moment.

"I guess that could be it." I said, though I wasn't totally convinced. I glanced around for Tikki, hoping she could search around inside the chest, but I couldn't find her anywhere.

"Hey, do you think I could see the blueprints now?" Luka asked after a moment. "I don't want to rush you or anything but the building crew need to know what they're building if we're going to have this placed fixed up by tomorrow."

"Of course." I answered quickly. "I have a couple versions for you to choose from actually."

"Really? That's great!" Luka beamed at me, and I stared at my feet as my face warmed with blush.

"You should totally see the newest one she drew. It's definitely the best." Alya commented as she and Luka turned to walk back to the front of the stage. "You coming Girl?"

"Yeah, one sec." I answered. "I just need to check the measurements of this so I can add it to the blueprints."

I watched my friends walk away, before I turned back to the box only to find Tikki floating in front of my face. I jumped back in surprise.

"Tikki! You scared me!" I exclaimed, as I grabbed my chest. "Where did you go?"

"It's gone…" Tikki stared blankly at me, her eyes out of focus. I frowned in concern and took a step forward.

"What's gone Tikki?" I questioned. Tikki's eyes focused, and she looked up into mine.

"The training room. It's gone."

A.P.V.

"He helped hide them?" I raised an eyebrow, not totally convinced.

"That's what I said." Plagg nodded. "Weren't you listening?"

"I was, it's just that you said that the miraculous were hidden in the city hundreds of years ago." I said, as I leaned forward in my chair. "And well as old as he may have looked I don't think he's 300."

"I don't mean he hid them the first time." Plagg huffed in annoyance. "I mean he hid them when my last holder disappeared."

"Oh, that makes more sense." I admit after a moment, feeling a bit foolish.

"You're not too far off with his age though, kid." Plagg continued, as he floated through the air to my bed. "If I'm remembering correctly he should be nearing 200 sometime in the next decade or so."

"200?" I exclaim, baffled at the idea of anyone living past 60. "Also what do you mean by holder?"

"The person who last wore the ring." Plagg explained, gesturing to the miraculous that rested on my finger.

"Do you think they're the person that wrote the journal?" I inquired, glancing at my desk and the annoyingly unhelpful pages.

"I suppose," Plagg answered after a moment, "Though I don't remember enough about them to know whether it's true or not."

"I see." I sit there thinking over everything Plagg's told me, trying to piece together the peices of the puzzle. Suddenly feeling overwhelmed I shook my head and stood from my chair stretching

"Where are you going?" Plagg questioned, as I pulled out my bag from under my bed.

"Nowhere." I replied, sighing as I pulled out my hovering orb. The note was still stuck to it, untouched.

"What's with the giant metal thing?" Plagg frowned floating over. "And why does it look like someone died halfway through writing that note?"

"They didn't die, the orb just floated back down before they could finish." I huffed, as I carefully peeled the note off and placed it in my desk drawer.

"Floated?" Plagg gave my contraption an incredulous look.

"Yes floated." I replied as I flipped it over and opened the hatch underneath and began tweaking the mechanisms.

"The day metal flies is the day I give up cheese." Plagg remarked as he flew over to where I had set out cheese for him earlier. I rolled my eyes and gagged as he began munching on another slice.

"You said there's an entire city floating above us, and yet you doubt that something this small could fly?" I asked him, as I screwed the compartment close and placed my contraption up right.

"Of course the city can fly. It's powered by a miraculous." Plagg said, scoffing at the idea of anything else defying gravity. "That thing is just pure metal, nothing special about it."

"Oh yeah?" I raised an eyebrow and switched it on, grinning in satisfaction as Plagg's mouth fell open.

"You must be using magic!" Plagg exclaimed as I caught my contraption on it's way back down. "There's no way metal can fly!"

"For your information it's not magic, it's science." I explained as I tucked it away in my bag again. "It's actually powered by steam, which is why it is great for trying to get above the clouds because it converts the liquid in the clouds-"

"Bla, bla, bla." Plagg interrupted, mimicking a talking mouth with his paw. "I could listen to you drone on and on for hours and never understand anything."

"Drone… I like it." I grinned to myself as I thought about telling Nino about it later. "Also don't you think you're being a bit rude?"

"Maybe, but how am I to tell?" Plagg asked, shrugging. "I haven't exactly talked to anyone in a hundred years or so."

"Is that how long you've been locked away in that compartment?" I inquired as I sat down on my bed. Plagg shrugged again.

"Maybe, maybe not." He remarked, as he floated down to rest on my pillow. "How am I to know, I'm not the kwami of time."

"You're not being very helpful right now." I frowned, as he stretched and yawned growing all the while.

"I'm sorry. Why don't you go and forget the last 300 hundred years then try to answer my questions?" Plagg huffed in response as he curled up on my pillow, now in full cat form.

"Sorry, that was a bit unfair of me." I sighed, and sat back on my bed. "Just let me know if you remember anything else, okay Plagg?"

There was no response.

"Plagg?"

A soft snore reached my ears and I chuckled as my kwami dozed in the light of the afternoon sun.

I stretched again, my eyes suddenly feeling heavy. Letting out a yawn I climbed up onto my bed and lied down beside Plagg, soon falling into a dreamless sleep.
