Part three- Kelline
With a soft flick of the knife, rings fell like fat golden apples into Kelline's gloved palm. With a quiet smile, she curled her nimble finers around them to minimize clinking and strolled away. Her victim wouldn't even notice until she was long gone.
Yes, a job well done, she told herself sauntering down the twisting city streets. Kelline painted an innocent picture with light blonde hair blowing loosely, large blue eyes sparkling. She transferred the rings into a belt pouch casually.
A cool sea breeze lifted her hair and soothed her face. Breathing deeply she could taste the ocean and grit of sand. The sun beamed down on her, setting her blonde hair blazing golden.
Grinning contentedly, she strolled off to the market. With a set of clever fingers and a thief's mind, Kelline made an excellent sneakthief. She appropriated small items as she walked past stalls, sewing supplies, buttons, spices, and a pair of socks joining her stolen rings.
If she was in the mood, Kelline probably could have made off with larger things, but after all she did have new funds and wouldn't be out anything to purchase the other things she needed. Smiling brightly, making light conversation, and being friendly were excellent distractions, but today she was able to use them genuinely.
Soon a long loaf of bread, a pocket full of apples, and a new leather bound journal soon joined her other, less innocently obtained, items.
Children, small and quick, darted in and out of the stalls. A delicious smell of spiced meat wafted to her on the ocean breeze. Laughter and footsteps echoed around the square, mixing with the faint sounds of the sea breathing in and out.
A soft tug on her sleeve made Kelline look down. A tiny, filthy girl looked up at her with pleading brown eyes. Her cheekbones stuck out painfully and she wore a loose sack cloth dress.
Kelline had always had a soft spot for beggars, having once been one herself. WIth a quick look around, she handed the girl the loaf of bread and a few golden rings.
The brown eyes lit up as the little girl babbled her thanks in an unintelligable language. She broke the bread and inhaled in ecstacy. Face glowing, she looked back at Kelline.
With a wink, Kelline headed home.
