Kelline
Kelline looked critically at the wardrobe in her room. The only available colors seemed to be blue and white, with maybe a touch of silver here and there.
"Ooh! How about this?" her roomate, a perky burnette named Dani, exclaimed, holding up a long white cloak. Kelline shook her head, grinning.
Vey and Dani's dog romped in the corner, nipping at each other's tails. They were very similar looking, excpet Dani's dog was a boy and had a few more markings across his face.
Pushing aside a ridiculously fluffy coat, Kelline pulled out a loose white shirt and silver bodice. She put them on, considering. Dani looked over and said, "I like that. Try this skirt with it." She handed over a light blue skirt with layers of white and silver. Kelline put it on over light gray leggings and white boots.
She examined her reflection critically in the mirror. The new outfit looked cute, but not in an overly flashy way. Smiling and giving a little twirl, she asked, "What do you think?"
Vey barked happily, and Dani beamed her approval.
Kelline looked back in the mirror, and the smile slid off her face. She suddenly felt very lost, and very small. What was she doing here, trying on skirts and giggling? A thief, a lowlife, didn't fit in here. She didn't belong here!
To her horror and embarassment, tears began falling down her face. She walked over to her bed and sank onto it, head in her hands. She heard Vey padding softly over, then a comforting weight settle in her lap.
Uncovering her eyes slightly, she saw Vey's dark eyes staring sympathetically up at her. A moment later Dani sat next to her.
"Hey, what's wrong?" she asked soothingly. Kelline didn't look at her.
"Look," Dani said, shifting around to face her. "I get how you feel. You miss your old life and feel like you don't belong, don't you?"
Gaze fixed on the floor, Kelline nodded.
"Well I'm here to tell you that if anyone belongs here, you do. Not only are you super funny and easy to get along with, but you look the part so much more than me!"
Kelline looked up at Dani, surprised. Her roomate tugged at a lock of her short brown hair and sighed.
"With brown hair and eyes, I don't look like much of a Chryomancer. And then there's you, with your blonde hair and blue eyes. I... I wish I looked like you."
Kelline turned to look at her. Dani was a small, slender girl with long lashed eyes and a heart shaped face.
"Truth be told, when I first saw you, that was exactly what I wished," Kelline whispered, glancing around as if the furniture was eavsdropping. Dani smiled, eyes shining.
They stood up in unison. Kelline cleared her throat awkwardly, wiping her eyes.
"Sorry about that," she apologized. "Just... well. Kind of a big change for me."
"It is for everyone," Dani consoled. "But people will love you! Come on, it's time for lunch, and you can meet everybody."
They called their dogs and walked out together.
