Capture

Kelline sat shivering in her dark house. She hadn't lit a candle, wanting to stay hidden among the shadows.

Vey had caught up with her as she had bolted away from the scene. She sat next to Kelline now, a solemn understanding in her deep eyes.

"What was that Vey?" she whispered numbly, staring at her fingers. She had no doubt that the strange ic around that man's leg had come from her. She had felt the surge of power right before it happened. "What happened?"

Vey simply blinked, nuzzling her comfortingly.

Despite her fear, Kelline managed to drop into an uneasy sleep. Strange, half-formed dreams came to her. Dreams of ice, beaches that froze around her, Vey's black eyes swelling hugely to drown her in a freezing sea full of hands dragging her down.

Jerking awake with a gasp, Kelline felt actual hands grabbing her. She attempted to scream, but a gloved hand clapped over her mouth. Shadowy figures surrounded her, keeping a firm hold on her arms and legs. They moved silently and effortlessly, lifting her as easily as they would a bag of apples.

Kelline writhed under their arms, eyes huge and terrified. A furry shape drifted under her. Vey trotted alongside the group as they snuck Kelline out of her house and into the black satin night.

They slipped through the deserted streets, the black clad figures keeping a firm hold on their captive. Kelline attempted to bite the hand over her mouth, but it made no difference. They slid through the shadows, Vey trailing alongside.

What was happening? Kelline's heart thudded like a trapped bird inside her chest. Sweat beaded on her forehead in the cool night and she struggled fruitlessly.

The shadow clothed group carried her to a covered carriage and bundled her neatly inside. She caught one last view of starry indigo sky, the dark shadows of the houses she had known all her life, and a distant silver glimmer of the ocean before the door shut with a snap.
