In The Dead of Winter - Trailer
Won't you come out? We could paint the town red.
"I just don't believe that your men will be able to survive the harsh cold of this land, Commander Sky."
"I understand that, Czar, but you haven't given us a chance!... Here, I have an idea."
"I'm all ears."
"What if I send for my third in command? You can send a guide to help him trek through the land to this city. If he makes it, and I know he will, will you sign the treaty then?"
"... I will consider it."
Kill a little time, you can sleep when you're dead.
"I'm on vacation."
"I know Deadlox, and Sky says he's really sorry, but he needs you to come out."
"How am I supposed to tell him this? I haven't even been here for a week and I already have to go."
"Sky said you can have as long as a vacation as you want when you get back."
"And new daggers?"
"I suppose I can offer that thought to him."
"... Fine. I'll be at the base in two days."
Cause it isn't over yet. Get it out of your head.
Deadlox looked up at the tall mountain, grinning as he held the walkie talkie in his hands. It was snowing steadily but the guide said it wasn't concerning. Honestly, this whole trip was worth it. The land here was beautiful despite the cold, and he just got to name a mountain. "Sky, you're never guess what just happened!" He said excitedly into the walkie talkie.
What, did you lose a toe?
"No, I got to name a mountain!"
I didn't send you out there to name a mountain. I sent you out there to get here and help me make a treaty. Stop being such a child.
Deadlox's face fell before he frowned, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Don't worry, I'll be there in like, two days."
Hurry up.
Deadlox sighed as he put the walkie talkie away, his guide smiling sadly as he watched him. "He sounds like a grump."
"He's really not, he's just stressed." Deadlox said, looking up at the mountain once more before he turned away. Despite how effected he seemed by Sky's disinterested words, he now had a hopeful grin on his lips. "I know he'll want to know what I named it later."
Chase a couple hearts, we can leave it in shreds. Meet me in the gutter, make the devil your friend.
"We have a problem!"
"What's wrong?"
"A member of my species's might lose his mate! They're about to get caught in a snowstorm! We have to help him!"
"We can't do anything, I'm sorry. They're in Archangel. We don't have a strong enough hold there."
"We can't just let them die! There has to be something we can do!"
"I'm sorry, but he's on his own."
"... No, wait... There's something I can do."
Say you have a little faith in me- Just close your eyes and let me lead. Follow me home.
Deadlox!
"Sky?"
You need to get to shelter! There's a snow-!
Deadlox furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as Sky was cut off by large amounts of static. "Sky?" He asked, but got no answer. He looked at his guide, who was walking in front of him as they walked across the thin ridge of the mountain. "Hey, I think something's going on!" He called, and his guide stopped and turned toward him.
"What?" He called, though Deadlox could hardly hear them over the howling wind, which had suddenly picked up.
"I said, I think we should turn-!" Deadlox's shout was cut off by a loud rumble above them. They both froze before they looked up, and Deadlox's eyes widened in horror.
"AVALANCHE!"
Won't you come out? I've been waiting for you.
Deadlox tumbled down the mountain, snow and ice falling all around him as the avalanche roughly tugged him along. Somehow, he was able to move his hand down to his hip as he saw he was headed right toward a drop off point in the mountain. If he fell there, he would die for sure. His hand curled around the handle of his climbing pickax, which the guide had given him before they had begun to climb up the mountain. He yanked it out, slamming the sharp end into the mountain. It dug into the stone but he was still dragged down the mountain, tearing up stone as he went down. He groped for the other pickax he had on his other hip, only for it to be knocked out of his hand by a chuck of ice when he pulled it out.
"NO!" He shouted desperately when he saw he was inches from the edge, and half a moment later he felt his body fly off of it. At that moment the pickax he still had got a good grip on the stone, and the tight grip he still had on the handle saved his life. He was roughly pulled back, hitting the side of the mountain as he clung onto the ax for dear life. He breathed heavily, staring up at the mountain with wide eyes to see no more snow and ice falling down. He let out a low sigh of relief, letting his head fall as he trembled in the cold. His hand felt numb but he wouldn't let go of the handle of the ax, knowing that it meant certain death if he did. But the peace only lasted for a moment, as he heard a rumbling sound coming from the top of the mountains a few seconds later.
Deadlox slowly looked up to see that a large chunk of ice had fallen from the mountain and was now tumbling down the side, right toward him. Deadlox was frozen as he watched helplessly, only letting out a small, timid whimper before the ice slammed down on his hand, making him scream in pain as the edge of his ax in the mountain broke off, leaving him no grip on the mountain. He fell, the frozen piece of ice soaring over his body and hitting the ground first, shattering into pieces before Deadlox hit the ground, snow flying up as he was buried into the icy cold material. His head roughly hit the iced over ground, and his vision instantly blackened as he was knocked out.
Holding my breath until my body turn blue.
Deadlox shivered roughly as he sat in the small cave, the small fire in front of him barely doing any heat for him though he wasn't complaining. His coat was torn to shreds from the fall, and snow was still in his clothes from where he had fallen. He was freezing, and there was hardly anything he could do about it. He had been able to find his pack while he was looking for small twigs to use for the fire, and inside he had found his trusty jacket. That's all he had for warmth, that and the small fire before him. Deadlox was silent for a few moments, before tears suddenly welled in his eyes. Half a moment later he was sobbing hysterically, trembling as he covered his mouth with his hand. Deadlox didn't have any hope, why should he?
He had no food, nearly no heat, and the small cave he was using for shelter was already beginning to suffocate him. His guide was bound to be dead, he hadn't seem him or heard him since he had woken up in the snow. How could this have happened? True had said the weather was perfect for traveling! Then, in a matter of seconds, Deadlox had no guide and there was a raging snowstorm outside, with howling wind and large chunks of hail and snow falling toward to the ground. There was no way he could survive this. What was even the point in trying? He didn't have a map, he had no idea where to go to get to the large city that was waiting for him.
Sky... Sky was waiting for him there. He had heard of the snowstorm and tried to warn him, but he had been too late. Deadlox whimpered and looked around the cave. All he had in this cave was his torn up pack that didn't half of the contents it had before the avalanche, the broken pickax laying beside it, and himself. He couldn't survive off of those. He whimpered, bowing his head. Sky, True, his kids, his... He cried even harder. Oh god, he had forgotten...! His poor darling! He hugged himself tighter. "I-I'm sorry...!" He sobbed helplessly to no one but himself and the air. "I-I'm so sorry...!"
We've got everything to lose. Yeah I'm waiting on you.
A sobbing Bacca, that was not Jerome but at the same time was, sat at a table in a small kitchen. He was trembling as he held a letter tightly, and his tiger had her head on his leg, looking at him with worried, gleaming eyes. His eyes remained frozen on it as he cried, rereading it over and over again even though he didn't want to see those horrid words ever again.
We regret to inform you that Deadlox has gone MIA. He has not been pronounced dead, and we will keep you up to date with any information that we might find.
Sun's come up, and there's no one else around. Meet me in the shadows, won't you tell me what you found.
Deadlox looked around the forest, hugging himself slightly for warmth as he kept walking. He couldn't survive on the little food he had left forever. He would have to find something to eat. Of course, he knew how to hunt and how to cook basically anything under the sun because of the missions he had gone on countless times. He smiled shakily. Usually, when he went on missions with Ian, he would have that cooking kit. Those were always the best meals. He felt his stomach rumble, and he winced before he continued trekking through the snow, holding the makeshift bow. His arrows were sticking out of his hood, as he had made sure they were so sharp that they went through the material of his jacket. Sure, he was ruining his jacket a bit, but it was a wonderful makeshift quiver.
Suddenly, he heard a rustle from a nearby bush, and he whipped around, pulling out one of the arrows and drawing the string of his bow back. He stared at the bush, keeping his arrow pointed at it as he held his breath. Suddenly, a fluffy, adorable rabbit leapt out of the bush, it's nose twitching. Deadlox stared at it, blinking slightly. The rabbit stared up at him, completely oblivious to the fact that Deadlox could kill him in a matter of seconds. Deadlox stared at him, unmoving. He had faced a few rabbits in past missions, and he always let them go. They were so cute and fluffy, and he was okay with finding something else, or maybe finding a second rabbit that wouldn't be so lucky.
He stared at the rabbit for a few more moments, before he suddenly let the arrow fly, watching as the rabbit perished instantly.
You've got everything to lose. Yeah, I'm waiting on you.
Deadlox sat close to his fire, shivering slightly as he watched the small, albino fox that he had rescued. He had patched up their leg with what little he had, and right now, he was just waiting for the rabbit to finish cooking. The rabbit was small, since it was winter and it was probably half starving when Deadlox killed it. He knew there wouldn't be enough to feed both him and the fox, but he knew that when he chose to bring the wounded animal back to his cave. He had already killed one animal today... Perhaps he could make up for it by saving another.
Just remember what I said. No, it isn't over yet.
Deadlox screamed as he dove underneath the wolf's pounce, tumbling across the snow before he pushed himself to his feet. He leaped onto a rock to avoid another wolf, but soon, he was surrounded by the entire pack. They glared up at him, snarling, their eyes glowing hungrily. They were thin and skinny, and obviously starving. They saw him as a delicious meal, perhaps even a feast.
Deadlox didn't blame them. He would kill anything right now to eat. But that was exactly why he couldn't run off and let them have the forest as a hunting ground; he needed to eat too. He didn't just have himself to feed anymore either. He had that fox to feed too, since it looked like it was sticking around. The rabbit it had hunted and brought back after it's leg had healed was only going to feed them for one night.
Need to have a little trust in me. Just close your eyes and let me lead.
"Sky..."
"No, no, he has to be here. He can't be dead. He's too strong for that. No, no, no... DEADLOX! DEADLOX, PLEASE! DEADLOX!"
Follow me home...
Deadlox screamed as the bear tackled him to the ground, it's claws digging into his shoulders and leaving long, deep gashes. Pain shot through his body and for a second his vision blackened, the pain was so bad. Suddenly, the fox leapt onto the bear's back, biting down on the bear's ear and yanking on it, tearing it off. The bear roared loudly in pain, stumbling off of Deadlox as he tried to shake the fox off of him. Deadlox watched with wide eyed horror, forcing himself to stand despite his burning shoulders. "TROUBLEMAKER!" He cried.
To where...
"Y-You have to stay alive..." Sky whispered into the walkie talkie, even though he was sure that Deadlox wouldn't be able to hear him anymore. Tears ran down his cheeks. "Y-You have to tell me what you named that mountain...!"
The lonely ones...
"Come on, Ty..." True muttered as he watched the recruits in their silent veil. "We need you here... Your kids need you here... Your mate needs you..." He closed his eyes tightly, a tear running down his cheeks. "Sky and I need you here..."
Roam...
A/N: Well, that was insane, wasn't it?
That's right guys! We've got another story coming our way! It's a very small sequel to the Sky Returns series, only, it's focused mainly on Deadlox! It's going to be very short, too, about ten chapters at the most. Perhaps eleven or twelve so I have time to wrap it up. That being said, the chapters will be very long, so you will have to stay patient for me! I don't know when the first chapter will be out, but you can always know right away by following me! But, you don't have to! I'll be telling you guys on this book when it'll be out!
I'm super excited for this guys. You've seen Deadlox as a very lively and sassy and sarcastic character, but he's so much more deeper than that. You're going to see that in this story. You'll be learning about his background, his dirty little secrets, his time in the BladeDancers- You'll be learning about everything!
And, you might just be getting a hint to who his mate is~ I'll give you guys one little hint! He's one of the lovely dogmagenes 's characters! Be sure to check her out; she has wonderful stories! When I first started in the fanfiction world, I learned everything I know now because of her. I wouldn't be where I was today if it wasn't for her.
So, I hope you guys enjoyed this book! If you need something to tide you over while you're waiting for In The Dead of Winter, I suggest you look at the other books on my profile! I got quite a few that will keep you entertained.
Granted, not a lot are completed, but... ^^;
I hope you guys enjoyed this story! I can't wait to bring you the next book! Stay strong and keep your heads up my pups! I'll see you in the next chapter!
