Face to Face
Now, Ian Sebastian Sundee was a prideful man. He was a member of the Brotherhood and had been considered to be the new leader of the group when theirs had to be retired. A selfish mentor had stopped that from happening, though Ian hardly cared. He wasn't a leader, though he certainly wasn't a follower. He was an assassin, a rouge. If he was a leader, he'd be stuck behind a desk, filling out different letters and reading and approving different contracts and wishing he could take several contracts himself. He would never be able to train apprentices, or be able to go on missions. No, he wasn't a leader, this was true. But he could silence anyone in under a matter of seconds, make anyone you wanted to disappear, and so much more.
If you had the right coin of course. Money wasn't everything he cared about, but he desperately needed it since he found himself banned from Russia and without a cent to his name. So, that's why he took the contract from that racist he had met in a bar, slurring things about 'filthy hybrids' and that the 'Azures are going to take us over.' Ha, as if squids could run an entire country that was as big as Minecraftia was. Perhaps in the seventeen hundreds, when it had been a small but thriving Kingdom with multiple rulers fighting for the throne, but that was the past. People could be so close minded sometimes.
But the thing was, this job was supposed to be easy. And it had been anything but easy.
Ian roared in anger as he hit the table, hearing it split underneath him. He leapt to his feet, jumping off the table as his hidden blades slid out from underneath his sleeves. A few leaders stumbled back, while a few others yanked out weapons they had hidden on their personals; Cain was one of them. Ian snarled as he saw him. Cain had been the one who he had gotten the contract for, not that man named Derek. But he had mixed up his drinks- No, no, he wasn't the one who made the mistake. It was the man who gave him the information. He had gotten the seating wrong. He snarled. That would be the last time he trusted a Ilex!
He ducked underneath a sword, grabbing the squid's wrist and yanking him down to him, plunging the knife of his hidden blade into his neck. As the squid fell to the ground, gasping and choking for air, he heard a loud bang above him and a familiar shout. He looked up to see another vent collapsing, and multiple shapes falling down toward it as screams and shouts filled the air. He dove to the side, rolling across the ground, skidding to a stop beside a squid, who he tripped with his foot before slitting their throat with the dagger he yanked out of his boot. When he looked up, dust had fallen down from the vent and onto whatever was happening at the table, which was bound to be shattered into multiple pieces from the multiple bodies that had fallen on it.
He squinted over his sunglasses, his dark blue eye glowing with confused anger and annoyance. Who could have possibly been in the vents aside from him? How hadn't he noticed them? They looked like a large group...
Suddenly, the dust cleared up, and his eye widened. There, he saw Husky, a very old friend, and his apprentice, Chance, kneeling down on the ground near the table, trying to catch their breath. Husky noticed him and he jumped to his feet. "IAN!" He shouted, before Ian saw another figure emerge from the dust, coughing and pulling out a golden sword quickly. He froze as he saw the amulet glittering around their neck, before he mentally groaned.
Oh, no...
He thought before he jumped to his feet, running over to Husky and Chance. He helped the apprentice up, ruffling his hair halfheartedly before he glared at Husky. "What have you gotten yourself into this time?!" He snapped, and Husky smirked.
"You know Sky Does Minecraft? Well, apparently that legend is true." He pointed a thumb toward the male, who was yanking a dazed Mitch to his feet.
"Well, who are the rest?!"
"Descendants of his original team. Apparently, we all are. Including you and I."
Ian stared at him. "... You're insane."
"You say that you didn't already know." Husky smirked before his eyes widened, and he yanked out his sword. Ian's eyes widened in shock, before he instantly dropped to his knees, yanking Chance down with him. Husky slashed his sword forward, the weapon going just above their heads, and slashing into the chest of a guard that had been running toward them, bellowing a war cry that Ian hadn't noticed with all the noise around them. For a moment, Ian could see what was going on as he laid on the floor with Chance beside him.
A Bacca and a guy with a katana were fighting against Cain and another one of the leaders, while that Commander was holding his own against a group of guards. A human wearing dogtags was shooting guards in the neck or in the back from where he stood on one of the chairs, taking whatever vantage point he could get. A male with hands glowing with purple magic blasted squids away, but usually kept a close eye on the others. He looked like a healer...
Meanwhile, this red eyed guy who looked like he was tall enough to be mistaken for a freshman was using a bunch of spinning daggers as a weapon. He blinked. BladeDancer. Interesting... They were cousins to the Brotherhood, though he hardly associated with one unless they made temporary truces to help each other out with different contracts. But, even so, he hadn't done that since he was a teenager, when he was still an apprentice and needed help.
He didn't need help anymore, and he certainly didn't need help from Husky and these strangers.
He growled, pushing himself up to his feet as he shoved past Husky. Husky blinked. "Ian, what-"
"I don't need your help!" Ian snarled as he whipped around, glaring at Husky angrily. His old friend blinked, almost taking a step back until he noticed Chance staring at them from the ground. Ian snarled. So what if Chance saw him being scared of him? It would show him that he should be scared of him too. Ugh, he never understood the pointless bond between a mentor and an apprentice. "I never asked for your help, and I certainly never asked for you to come and ruin my contract!" Husky stared at him, before he suddenly narrowed his eyes.
"You seemed to do that just fine on your own." He growled. "What, switch up the glasses, Ian?" Ian roared and he threw a punch, but Husky dodged it by stepping to the side.
"IT WASN'T MY MISTAKE! IT WAS MY SOURCE OF INFORMATION!" Ian roared, and Husky stared at him evenly.
"Since when did you ever blame people for mistakes that happened during your contracts?" Ian stiffened, before he glared at Husky angrily, unable to form a comeback. Husky didn't break away from his burning gaze. "What in the Nether happened to you, Ian?" Ian stared at him, his glare dropping. But then he just shook his head, narrowing his eyes before he turned away and threw a dagger into a squid's forehead. Husky stared at his back, before he shook his head, turning away. "Whatever..." He muttered as Chance stared up at him from the floor. He didn't say a word when he got up, only pulled out his own sword as he joined in on the fight.
"TRUE! WATCH OUT!" True stumbled as he was shoved to the side, Cain's sword slashing where his shoulder had been just moments before. Then his blade clashed with a golden one as True fell onto the ground, unable to regain his balance. He looked up, before his eyes widened. Sky stood there, his blade clashed with Cain, who glared at him before he realized who he was. Then he sneered.
"Well, if it isn't Sky Does Minecraft." He cooed as their swords pressed against each other, both of them trying to over power the other. Sky snarled.
"I don't care if you know my name! You're the Commander of your filthy species, yes? The man I spoke to on the walkie talkie? Well, more like terrified..." Cain narrowed his eyes, letting out a low, threatening growl.
"Why, you little..." He muttered before he yanked his sword back, stepping to the side and slashing at Sky's shoulder. Sky moved quickly and almost gracefully despite how muscular and tall he was. He dodged the sword, ducking underneath it. He landed on his back, his hand propping his body up before he kicked his foot up. Cain shouted out as Sky struck him right in the hand, his sword flying out of his hand from the force. True jumped to his feet and caught the sword, slamming it into the chest of a squid guard that was trying to run into the fight between the Commanders.
True turned his head back around, watching Sky with curiosity. He knew Sky was strong, yes, but he had no idea that he was capable of doing something like that. Deadlox, he expected that from him, he was smaller and thinner. He was lean, but he didn't have muscle like Sky did. True smirked slightly. It looked like he hadn't given Sky enough credit... He would have to be a bit more insightful next time. His captain always told him to never judge a book by it's cover, after all. He should try to remember that...
He watched as Sky leapt to his feet, roughly punching Cain so hard that the Commander stumbled back, grabbing his jaw. Sky laughed loudly. "You can't even take a simple punch without your jaw popping out of place?! You're pathetic! Your species has gotten even more pathetic since the seventeen hundreds! But then again, why am I surprised?" True wanted to laugh as he saw Cain seething, so furious that he couldn't even cut Sky off with a comeback. "Your species was always so idiotic that you could hardly make a fire without burning down an entire forest down!"
"SKY!" True blinked, before he looked over. The call had been from Deadlox, who was knelt down beside Mitch, who was gripping his side. True's eyes widened when he saw red blood seeping between Mitch's fingers. The archer was wounded. Seto was beside him, helping him cover the wound with his two hands as his mouth moved quickly. His hands shimmered every now and then, but it hardly looked like anything was helping. Though, the bleeding wasn't too bad. Maybe that's how Seto was helping. "MITCH IS HURT! WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!" Sky cursed, before he turned his head around just to see Cain racing toward him, screaming in anger. Sky raised an eyebrow, amusement flashing through his golden eyes, as he didn't even try to move.
When Cain was just about to tackle him Sky ducked, and when his body soared over his Sky thrust his body back up. His head buried right into Cain's stomach, knocking the breath out of him as he was sent flying up. He soared over the rest of the battle, before landing right in the debris of the table. Jerome burst into bellowing laughter from the other side of the table, before he suddenly smelled Mitch's blood in the air. His eyes widened in horror, before he jumped over the debris, landing beside Deadlox at Mitch's side. "Mitch!" He cried, grabbing the human's hand tightly with his paw. Mitch smiled at him shakily.
"I-I'm fine...!" He whispered, before True and Sky ran over.
"Where's Husky?" Sky demanded. "And that counterpart- What's his name?"
"Ian." True said, looking around. Then he spotted the blue skinned male fighting beside a hooded man with Chance a few feet away from them. He stuck two fingers in his mouth and let out a sharp whistle, Sky looking up as the group of three looked over.
"Mitch is wounded!" Sky shouted. "Come on, we're retreating! We have no choice!"
"You're kidding!" The hooded man growled, and Sky stared at him with burning golden eyes.
"Look around you. Some squids are so confused they're fighting with people that are on their own side. This is the most perfect amount of chaos we're ever going to get. They're so distracted that until half of this room is destroyed, if not more, they won't even realize that we're gone." The hooded man huffed, and Husky sighed.
"Come on, Ian." He growled. "We're the only chance you have at getting out of this alive. I don't know what happened back at Russia, and honestly, I don't know if I even want to. But you're my best friend, and we need you to help us with these squids. It's in the legend, or whatever."
"That story is used so that little children don't go running into the woods!"
"Then how is the hero of that story standing right before us?!"
"I'm no hero." Sky muttered, before he knelt down beside Seto. He pushed his hands underneath Mitch's body before he lifted him up, holding him bridal style as he stood up. Seto let his hands fall away, but he kept chanting, breathing a bit heavily as the weight of keeping whatever spell he was using going. Sky shifted Mitch's body, ignoring the small whimper of pain that left the male's lips. "Come on. Either we leave, or we're imprisoned again and we die. Or maybe they'll just kill us, without even bothering to throw us in cells. Who knows; either way, we're going to end up dying if we don't leave." He looked at Ian and Husky. "Are you with us?" Husky nodded, and Ian hesitated before he huffed.
"Fine." He growled, and Sky only nodded solemnly before he looked at True.
"You're the next best fighter here that isn't distracted with Mitch or other people. You lead us out of here." True nodded, tightening his grip on his katana.
"You got it. Let's go!" He said, before he turned and darted toward the doorway that led out of the dining room. The rest of the group followed, Deadlox bringing up the rear. He stopped in the doorway, hesitating, before he turned and looked over his shoulder. He stared at all the squids screaming and roaring, tackling each other, fighting each other. He listened to the swords clashing and the shouts from leaders as they tried to calm one another down, as someone tried to get a hold of the situation at hand. Moments ago, this had been a peaceful dinner party celebrating a treaty between a clan and an entire Kingdom. Deadlox felt slightly drained from all the magic he used for his daggers, and he could feel his heart hammering in his chest. Sweat was on his brow, and as he reached up to wipe the beads away, he wondered if this is what war was like.
All this bloodshed, the adrenaline, the fear of dying, the fear of living, watching your every move, never knowing a moment's peace. He wondered if this is what Sky went through in the seventeen hundreds, or if it was worse than this. He was sure the battlefield was bigger, and there were louder sounds, more death, more blood. But, seeing this small preview, getting to taste a bit of the excitement that this small battle had given him... It reminded him of the battle he had fought in at New Mine City, where they were all a team, but not yet complete because they didn't have Ian or Husky. If Mitch told him the story correctly, (and he was sure he had, he seemed to know it by heart) then since they had Ian, they were complete. They were the descendants. And the battle here before him, was a glimpse of his future if he decided to stay and help Sky.
He loved it.
A grin came to his lips, and he let out a whoop, turning and running after the group as they raced down the hallway. Soon, they burst through two doors, and they found themselves outside. They stumbled down a worn down path from soldiers that marched down it and servants that had scurried all over it, before they came to a lush green forest. Deadlox grinned as he looked around, seeing the beauty in the forest all around them, and he didn't care that he had blood on his daggers and sweat from the fight on his body. He let out a loud shout, front flipping over a log they came to.
"I'll tell you one thing, I've never felt so alive!"
